Lyrics:
He wakes up in the morning
Does his teeth bite to eat and he's rolling
Never changes a thing
The week ends the week begins
She thinks, we look at each other
Wondering what the other is thinking
But we never say a thing
These crimes between us grow deeper
Take these chances
Place them in a box until a quiter time
Lights down, you up and die
Goes to visit his mommy
She feeds him well his concerns
He forgets them
And remembers being small
Playing under the table and dreaming
Take these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and die
Driving in on this highway
All these cars and upon the sidewalk
People in every direction
No words exchanged
No time to exchange
When all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennas waving
They all do it the same
They all do it the same way
Candyman teasing the thoughts of a
Sweet tooth tortured by the weight loss
Programs cutting the corners
Loose end, loose end, cut, cut
On the fence, could not to offend
Cut, cut, cut, cut
Take these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and die

I was driving in my car on my way home from work one day in 1995 and heard this song on the radio for the first time. Although I'd never heard of the Dave Matthews Band, I liked this song so much that I stopped by a record store and bought the CD. It was one of the best impulse purchases I've ever made.

I also bought the CD on the spot after hearing "Crash", not even knowing who they were, listened to the entire CD that night, and it stayed in Slot One of my CD changer for FIVE YEARS after that... that's how incredibly good that album and this group is. 💯

BURT SWAYZE ha. So you searched or saw a dmb video and needed to comment? And you’re unaware that there are different kinds of people and music in the world? Interesting choice. The reason for doing that was…To change our mind? To be honest, i do not like listening to the whole band, but just dave by himself or with tim reynolds. Sometimes i find tim annoying, but hearing dave solo made me appreciate the band a bit more. Listen to “the stone” on charlie rose. It’s before he played with the band. Learn how to play it on guitar, and i bet you may like them. He played many of his songs differently. The voice you just have to get used to. And watch vh1 storytellers with dave and tim.

I had a chance to meet him before a festival in Pensacola years ago and it was mind opening. This guy is just an average guy who plays guitar. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know who he was until late in the night when he was asked to play some music by the event host. We were at the event host's house and he grabbed a guitar and started messing around. He laughed at me when I said I didn't know who he was and explained that he plays in a little band and is performing tomorrow at the Sausage festival. The next day, I found a CD of him and I couldn't believe that I just spent hours with this guy who said 'I play in a little band'

Not a huge fan of this band but...what energy and proficiency they have individually and even more collectively. It's impressive how they all feed off each other and trade off shining moments unselfishly without getting in each other's way. Ego free ensemble. Dave and his band are the antithesis of so much that is wrong with this Karaoke, American idol, the voice approach to music. They don't sound like anyone else and aren't interested in piggybacking on someone else's work. So many now get famous for singing other people's songs. Doing your own thing, being original, is always refreshing to see and hear even if it's so rare nowadays.
