@@twozero2826 Point is, he is a far better drummer now than then, technically. His drumming on Rushs' 2112 overture for the Taylor Hawkins Memorial Concert with The actual band Rush. There's a lot going on on that song. Now MAYBE Dave could play like that back in the early 90's that I'm not aware of. His Drumming with Them Wicked Vultures is good stuff too. POINT IS if you stick with ANYTHING for a given amount of time you will get better UNLESS no effort is made to get better. Dave is clearly a different drummer than he was 30 years ago.

@@twozero2826 It probably seems like it sounds better in the first one because of the reverb and his performance. The point of grunge wasn’t suppose to be clean. Even they said that back in the day they special Kurt. That’s why Kurt loved punk and was inspired. He always talked about freedom to express oneself even if it’s not the right beat. Especially because he couldn’t read music. That’s why he called the band Nirvana.

Hell yeah, Dave Keep on rockin forever!
Man why is this noticeably sped up? I am not hating AT ALL and there are many, many bands that do this, and I am also just going to put it out there that I am not saying doing this reflects skill, but man why do people speed their shit up when they perform it live?? If I had one huge knit-pick about live performances then it would definitely be this. I cannot stand it. As I said I don’t think it necessarily reflects or has to do with skill or talent per se but man I just hate it when I go to see a band perform and then they noticeably speed the song up. And it’s not even subtle and it’s not every single song either. Another good example would be psychosocial by Slipknot. Man Jay Weinberg speeds up the shit out of that song and ugh it’s just annoying. It’s not even like it’s necessarily bad or a worse off song but it’s just not the song ya know? It’s not the same and it throws me off. Maybe I’m just very very strict and passionate and overly anal with music idk lolol as I said again no hate, it’s just a pepeeve of mine. Just knit picking. I really do hate it tho lolol I think even Joey Jordison back before Slipknot picked up Jay Weinberg was guilty of speeding up some songs here and there. Just I don’t think it was as often or as noticeable as Jay nowadays. Could be wrong tho. If I’m wrong then I’m wrong I’ll admit it. Anyways to the 3 or 4 people who will end up seeing this reading this whole thing, Merry Christmas. Stay safe and I hope everyone has a better year in 2023 than they did this year in 2022. Stay safe!!!! 🤘🏻😝🤘🏻/✌🏻&❤️

Smells Like Teen Spirit was sped up intentionally when played live because Cobain hated that song but knew the fans loved it, so instead of taking it out of the setlist they just played it as fast as possible to get it over with. Most times it was the first song they played during the concert just to get it out of the way.
@sampilsbury9415

Most of the time it’s simply adrenaline. I used to have a count off on a metronome which solved this problem. Amazing that even huge bands don’t/didn’t do this. The Smashing Pumpkins were very guilty of this!
