Been a Dave Alvin fan since his music appeared on "Justified." Now, it's July, 2024.

Mighty Dave Alvin. He and his brother Phil tore it up as the Blasters in the 80s. I was in high school. Rockabilly baby

Classic cool from Dave Alvin, in my top ten favorite singer songwriters of all time. He ticks all my favorite Americana categories.

I found him on Spotify. He is good and has this groove which is irresistable....

If more country music was this cool, I might like it more. This kills !!

oh man..that strat is sool cool, dark and woody sounding...with Dave Alvin playing superbly to complement that gravely, road aged voice..man that's good...damn good.

Guys like Dave can make anybody want to learn to play guitar.

This is my eclectic country playlist. Thanks for all comments and I hope I can tell if they're to me, or to whoever originally put thing songs up on KZread. But an anecdote on this one... I discovered Dave Alvin solely via his vocals on 'Shenandoah' with Los Lobos; I entirely missed The Blasters (hey I was having chiildren in the 80s, OK). So c. 2011 Dave & Phil come thru North Texas and I insist we go see them - guy's got pipes, right? At the show, my SoCal wife says to me "my god, he plays that Fender like Eddie Van Halen!" We were hooked. LOL

THAT my friends is what a GOOD P-Bass sounds like.....great song.

Yeah the rhythm section is SOOO strong, is a large part of what makes this so cool.

Just as good live as in studio. Something to be said for true singers and no fakes with synthesizers and sound boards!

Phil was on stage with Dave at Hardly Strictly in SF this year, October 6th. Did one song together. Looked a little weathered after that heart attack .. but he's hangin' in there. Great to see them together again. There may be a video on here if you check Hardly Strictly 2012. Dunno . .

Awesome, and being from the next county over, I can appreciate the Harlan County line. Now, in Chicago, but remember the bootleg days of Harlan County.

Nothing like a little Dave Alvin and that band to get the new year off on the right foot. Make sure if they are playing near your stomping grounds. GO see them ! Awesome show any night of the week.

Interesting.. I opened this and forgot i had a Thelonious Monk album on. For a few seconds Dave's guitar and Monk's piano made a dissonant but glorious melody.

NOPE. Highly rated by all.

They opened with this last night in Sonoma County. I had a good idea three or four days ago. I bought a ticket to see them along with Marshall Crenshaw. A real good idea.

If you like this you'll love Harlan County Line by Ron Short and the Possum Playboys (not the song from Justified). There's a KZread video made a couple of years ago when the song was brand new. It totally ROCKS now. I watched them twice at Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival a couple of weeks ago. They were awesome and that song should be on the charts.

that is one tight band/sound , saw them live Hot.......

Dave is right there with John Hiatt. Different genres, still, greatness.
