He was a genius!!! Watching him or George Carlin, you realize their greatness came from these guys being Philosophers, Observers, Social Critics and extremely intelligent!!!

When I was young I loved watching Dave Allen at large. And he was and will always be my favorite comedian. R.I.P. Dave Allen.

The people who put their thumps down to this video, have no sense of humour. This man was so far ahead of his time. Makes me laugh very time!!

On television these days there is hardly anything left to laugh about, sadly mostly due to today's "moralists" who would love to silence anyone that might feel compelled to use a hearty F****. A F**** word never hurt or killed anyone, in fact it can be highly refreshing at times 😁 (Although at school kids are still being taught that we all have "freedom of speech". To me it looks more like "freedom of being hushed".)

As did I! Best stumble I ever did this guy is the greatest story telling comic. I'm a yank and it's great to hear comics from other places, especially now since their's pure shite here. Political correctness ruination.

It's totally remarkable, in that no matter how many times you watch a Dave Allen Show, you still laugh , that's the genius of the man. Thank you Dave for all the great times. "May your God go with you".

One of the greatest story tellers of my lifetime. Glad I had beautiful entertaining people like DA unlike the dribble of today.

I’d agree but coming from Glasgow I’d like to include Billy Connolly in this criteria as he was a true stand up as well also coming from Clydebank I’d like to also include Kevin Bridges these are truly great introspective comedians and we need a lot more of them

None of my mates at school were allowed to watch Dave Allen. I on the other hand consider myself to have had one education in a million.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Dave Allen was one of the true comedic geniuses of the world. You can watch him over and over again! He was highly intelligent and incredibly funny! I I hope that we will be fortunate enough to go to Heaven and continue to see him perform up there. R.I.P. Dave, and thanks for all the hours of great enjoyment.

I love Dave Allen. For all that he stands for and all that he believed in. He is an individual beyond doubt. One thing that I do love about him is he does not swear or use profanities even though we know what he is really saying. That is class.

I remember watching him on WTTW in Chicago when I was a kid. These are awesome to watch again.

It is a shame that he is gone............ He was Brilliant !!! Thank you for showing this wonderful clip.

What a brilliant story teller. He was so clever and very funny. The so called comics today could learn a lot from him . He was very smart in dress and his style of making us laugh . Oh so sad when the really funny ones pass on and we still have the ones who think swearing all the time is funny. So sadly missed.

Totally! The comedian's silence perfected. He made his observation, stopped, let his audience think and consider, then laugh.Sheer genius.

Legend! Did it so well for so long. He was the catalyst for what was to come. Brilliant man sadly missed.

One word “genius” he belonged to the world not just to Ireland RIP Dave

His delivery is sublime put simply.

Thank You For uploading this. Dave Allen is STILL among the TOP comedians on my list. His simplistic minimal approach to the art of stand up comedy, and story telling was always razor sharp formidable, as his anecdotes dealt with any topic or subject which most of us, regardless of age could relate to, and with masterful humorous honesty, expose the human condition, as the timeless folly which can best be dealt with from the lofty vantage point of the spirit of humour. Even if that "Spirit" comes out of a bottle of Irish "liquid Gold" Thanks again!

Wow my first time hearing about this guy!!! I feel sooo uneducated in life! This guy was from the future! It’s such a shame how most people won’t even find this lesson in life. Comedy to me is real school and being taught the true values in life there aren’t too many out there these days for kids to look up to.

How very sad that he never did make it to old age. He was a brilliant comedian with perfect timing. He is much missed.

About 69, not that old these days. Not a bad age, but he had more to give I think. When he died it was one of the few times when I hear of a celebrity death that I felt genuinely saddened. Same when Father Ted died.

Around the 10 minute mark he makes the most fundamental observation that troubles the world today debt . All the counties in the world are up to their arse in billions of debt now trillions , Who do we owe it to and where did they get it from .

It's how they've been able to buy up everything. All the major land-holdings, properties, industries, political parties, and colleges are owned by banks. They own the media. Dave Allen - one of the rare few to get an “f” bomb past the BBC when it was pretty much always forbidden.

Martin, quality is fine and thanks for putting this up. It seems almost impossible to find his shows eg on Amazon. he was my favourite comedian back in the §1970s and 80s. I saw him live on stage once, hilarious and brilliant.

I watched the whole thing eagerly, not having seen him on TV since the '70s - for various reasons, like not having a TV set or living in non-English speaking countries - and it was an utter delight. But the real fun part was the gratuitous complaints which followed.

Thank you for uploading this. It brought back a memories of when I was growing up in England. Any chance you have recordings of Max Boyce? he was a great Welsh comedian who told stories and his signature prop was a giant leek, active on UK TV during the 1970's/early 1980's.

I agree. I have an allotment in my local village and there was an old fellow goes jauntily by, cheery word for everyone, does his garden, collects eggs for his supper. Lovely chap. 91. When I last saw him he was in something of a decline, his wife had died (they had been together for almost 70 years) and it hit him hard. Haven't seen him in a while now.

Ironically 16 years later Ireland had the biggest collapse in their economic history due to world slump and a building boom. Re the f-word - all it needed was a warning at the start. At that time, the f-word on BBC1 was extremely rare, especially in comedy, but just a little contextualisation would have prevented this whole controversy. Just a little warning would have negated the whole thing.
