DATA BANKS FROM SPACE - ONI - Spaced Out: Ep. #27 (Oxygen Not Included)

Hello everyone!
Today, we're flying into space for the first time in the name of science. Our goal is to test a setup to gather some Data Banks as well as Artifacts from space. Hope you enjoy!:)
Oxygen Not Included is a space-colony simulation game. Deep inside an alien space rock your industrious crew will need to master science, overcome strange new lifeforms, and harness incredible space tech to survive, and possibly, thrive.

In Oxygen Not Included you’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.
Build Extensive Bases and Discover What it Takes to Survive:
Everything in your space colony is under your control, from excavation and resource allocation right down to plumbing and power systems. Resources will begin depleting with your first breath, however, so be sure to dig fast if you want to live.
It’s Mind Over Matter with Stress Simulations:
Keep the psychological impact of survival at bay with fun leisure activities, great accommodations and even better food for your colony. Duplicants each have different and potentially destructive ways of reacting to stress, so be sure to always keep them happy. Whatever the cost.
Avoid Boiling with Thermodynamics:
Temperature control is a constant concern in space; too cold and you'll freeze, too hot and you'll fry. Keep tabs on ambient environmental temperatures and your colony's heat production to maintain a nice, cozy atmosphere for your colonists.
Enhance Efficiency through Complex Gas and Liquid Simulations:
Create interlocking pipe systems to swiftly deliver fuel and liquid to critical areas of your base. Plan well and be rewarded as your colony transforms into an imperishable, well-oiled machine.
Take Charge with Power Grid Simulations:
Choose from a multitude of power sources including coal, hydrogen, natural gas or just plain old elbow grease. Manage power runoff, circuit overloads and meltdowns to keep your colony running smoothly.
Always Keep Yourself Breathing:
Enter the Oxygen Overlay and watch air moving through your base in real-time. Monitor carbon dioxide accumulation and oversee oxygen generation processes to mold your colony into a veritable deep-space oasis.
Waste Nothing through Extreme Recycling:
Make use of every last resource for a base that truly exemplifies efficiency. Recycle waste into precious fuel, process unbreathable gas into air, or harness the natural bodily processes of wild creatures for food. If you’re clever, you might even be able to run a base off colonist farts.
Explore Diverse, Procedurally Generated New Worlds:
Summon new worlds with a push of a button. Experience tons of untamed space rocks, then suffocate to death in them!
-------------------
Spaced Out DLC:
The Duplicants are back again, and this time they're ready to rebuild their colonies from the mysterious remains of a planet torn asunder!
In Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out! you'll spearhead space missions to new and undiscovered Planetoids, transport resources between bases, and manage multiple worlds on the fly to build a megacolony that not only survives but hopefully, thrives.
New Multi-World Gameplay
Put your colony management skills to the test by juggling the needs of Duplicants in multiple colonies simultaneously. Switch between planets in real-time and secure rare resources on other worlds to supply your home base.
Expanded Rocketry
Customize new modular rockets to your liking, then explore the expanse of space with the newly overhauled Starmap. Huge expansions to the Research Tree provide new mid-game Rocketry options, giving your Duplicants an edge in the asteroid space-race.
New Critters
Get acquainted with some new fuzzy friends - if you're nice, they might help you out around the colony!

Tips from me: - Your starting research rocket is kind of ok, however I prefer using sucrose engine - it produces small amount of power in flight and have more generous space for modules (i combine it with spacefarer module). - Those intake ports you researched are for moving something (gas/liquid/solid) from cabin to storage module or vice versa. Input/output ports inside cabin have their counterparts right outside nosecone/spacefarer. They are neat way how to pressurize cabin, take away carbon or bring water for toilets. Just be aware that during flight, liquid/gas pumped inside ports will be expelled (useful for expelling carbon/polluted water). - For fitting toilet - move power port right above algae diffuser and build space toilet right next to airlock (remove pump, you should transfer to better rocket very soon), then bring water trough port and wiggle pipes around cabin. Space toilet automatically expell polluted water on the other side of wall (to space). - Once again, move to better rocket soon. I, for instance, love using steam rocket - they are really slow, true, but they produce very neat amount of power while in flight (600/800 W if I remember correctly) and height is limited to 25 (while steam engine takes only 5). With spacefarer module you can easily fit both telescope and research station while retaining great hall, washroom and bedroom status of rooms (if you are interested, here is nice example, built before Klei added narrower toilet - forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/132176-what-i-love-about-dlc-rocket-interior-tweaking-my-design-not-only/?do=findComment&comment=1482909 ) - Radiation isn't removed by showering. Most usually small dose of radiation are expelled when dupe visits toilet. If they catch more than they can expell this way, you need to craft pills for them. - Different material (and their quantity) blocks radiation differently. For your small rocket i would advice replacing two tiles under pilot seat with either metal (lead) or plastic tile (both have radiation blocking = 68%) Sorry for wall of text, rockets and their designs are my most favourite thing about DLC :-) Keep up the good work and thanks for nspiring me how to build incubator room in your last video :-) BTW I have no doubt that when you were renaming rocket platform, you confirmed it with Enter. Thats how it got disabled, game doesn't take it as confirmation but as hotkey to turn on/off something :-)

While in space any gasses that are pumped out will just simply be expelled but while landed that is when you would need to connect a gas vent to the module. For radiation while collecting the data banks using plastic tiles or lead tiles under the rocket controller would greatly help so while ellie is doing the job she isnt being blasted by radiation

I think the reason you couldn't build the bigger spacefarer module was solely because of the height of the rocket. With one battery module less it should've worked. The rocket port unloaders are mainly for cargo modules. If you want to vent CO2 (or polluted water) from the spacefarer module, you can use the inbuild liquid/gas inputs/outputs in two ways: When the rocket is flying, every output gets automatically vented into space and is lost. When landed, the outputs can directly be taken from the outside of the spacefarer module (check gas/liquid overlay from the outside of the rocket).

I would suggest replacing these 2 airflow tiles that rocket control sits on for gold metal tiles. You get high decor bonus for more morale in space, and it could block radiation from top window onto research station too :) Also maybe add light there for faster controling and researching (Not sure if light from sun works as "lit workspace" buff).

Yeah, if you replace the left of the two air flow tiles under the rocket control station, that should block the radiation in the spot they spend most of their time researching, while still allowing plenty of space for air flow.

@@Nathans-Sandbox Whats so good about plastic tile tho? It have much lower decor, but reduce germ spread. As for gold tile, maybe even carpet tile might be even better here, since it actively reduce stress too and have high decor like gold tile too. 75% run speed difference is not really important here, since she only sits there. Not sure how effective they are at blocking radiation tho.

if you can squeeze in a gas valve you can set up a passive filter (top of the plastic ladder) to keep your Oxygen in the rocket cabin and eject only CO2 (since your pump will pick up CO2 and O2 at the same time). I do a similar thing in my rockets but I use the gas element sensor to detect not-oxygen and activate the pump, place the sensor on the floor.

Lowering Radbolts to 1? You lose 0.8 per "shot" right now. If you shoot at 100, that's 0.8%. If you shoot at 1, that's 80%. All that energy would be wasted... That aside, nice first rocket. If you find a toilet solution, radiation might sort itself out, as they shed radiation every time they use one. Maybe with wall mounted toilets?

  • @Nathans-Sandbox

Yeah the lowering to 1 wasn't a god idea. But I've had it multiple times where there was a tiny amount of research left to do, and then it charged up to 100 again, wasting 90 of it because of overflow. Now it's at 50, so I guess that's fine. I install a toilet in the next episode too:)

Nathan, for the radbolt, you can adjust the value to something like 103 radbolt so went it goes into the machine, it will be at 100. That way you will fill it in 1 shot and will turn the rest off right away. Also, you should check the temperature under the rocket. Might over heat there the plastic tube or wire.

  • @Nathans-Sandbox

    @Nathans-Sandbox

@@Nathans-Sandbox It's still less waste. you can queue research or If you look further out in the researche tree, they take 300-400 reasearch (100 radbolts gives 25 or 50 reaserch I think). Another thing, make sure you have scientist on 2 different shifts with highest priority on the material research. This way, they will use all the radbolt before it shoots again. I also added a comment on the temperature below the rocket exaust. It may make your transite tube or the electric wire melt.

Unless they changed how things work with the patch, I think you can put a gas storage tank on the rocket and fill it with O2. Then use the wall outlets to vent it in. That will get rid of the O2 diffuser and algae. Also there is a wall toilet and you could fill up a string of water pipes to store water for it. I think a stacking wall bed takes up 2 squares, to give her a bed too. It's really hard to fit everything you need in those rockets though.

Why you built so many storage and not use liquid/gas compression? PS: Please make more short ONI tutorial about some cool construction, like liquid/gas compression without using power, how to handle every Geyser, Vent, Volcano and turn it to something useful for late game, how to make steam room for cooling, etc . . . I know many of it already in your normal ONI video, it's look cool and clean, but too many thing happen in 1 video and hard to find the correct construction i want to find in video like 1 hours long :)

hey! great content as always! anyway, i saw one of ur videos about thermo aquatuner, and i tried to build it on my base but there's a problem with the loop, some water keeps bypassing without even getting into the thermo aquatuner, i've been trying to fix it but i don't know what's the problem, i build it exactly the way u did, i keep changing the pipe system but it keeps having the same problem. i really love this game, been playing it for weeks but when it comes to the thermo aquatuner setup i would just give up already which is just making me starting new base over and over again and it makes me so frustated do you have any suggestion? maybe it's too much but can u upload a new tutorial with more detail? sorry for my bad english tho. i would really really appreciate if u could help me with this problem, anyway, thanks!

Send me a picture of your piping and sensor (do you have the right settings there?). If you can via Discord or Mail both in the description. It sounds like you mught have set the sensor to below instead of above or maybe the pipes all for some weird routes.
