Take a second look. I'd be pretty sure the P-plate Tradie might have had a green, going by the car turning in front, and was flashing the Pedestrian who may have been crossing without a walk signal, then the blue car seems to dawdle out like one of those Left Turn Through Red intersections. Without seeing from the other side of the intersection, we can only surmise who had right of way. And, yeah, I hate having to give the classic Tradie Truck the benefit of the doubt when so many are just f-wits on the road.

If you watch it one frame at a time, the cyclist is drifting to the right. From when we first see him to when the ute hits him, the cyclist had moved at least 500 mm to the right, leaving the ute driver no chance of avoiding an accident.

We did, the police followed it up because our car ended up being a write off due to the crash snapping our tire rod, bending the car chassis and causing an oil leak. The police were pretty lazy about it and ended up not following it up because plates didn’t match and just gave us the report for insurance. Lucky for the dash cam, I’m a p plater so insurance never would’ve believed us since this was the most avoidable thing ever. Definitely buying a dashcam

Being of aware of other drivers/pedestrians is still a personal responsibility even if reasonable accident prevention isn’t a legal responsibility. It’s up to the person whether they want to deal with insurance claims or hitting a jaywalking pedestrian or avoid it all together by paying more attention.

I could very easily imagine that the A pillar blocked the Tesla's view. Also, nobody is constantly maintaining a 360* situational awareness, though some do better than others (and some are truly terrible), so you can't really point at a single event and say "this is due to incompetence". Anyone could make a mistake like that, even the best, if you can even call that a mistake.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there are some people who will, regardless of the outcome, will always just ‘do the fuck they want’ ! I am so over it ! It. Honestly makes my bloody boil to think there are so many people doing so many dangerous things on our roads, at 61, this month, NEVER, having had an accident (she touches real wood, not just her head, that it may be time to give my licence in. I don’t want to. I used to wonder at times, having lived on an expressway for years! How some accident even occur. Also having been a fan of Dash Cam Owners of Australia for a long time, I now see how and why these accidents happen. The selfish, bloody entitled attitude of some you morons, is beyond belief. You think you can do what you want but I’ll tell you, it’s not you who is the clever driver that keeps you safe, you who speed, run red lights, overtake improperly etc, you are being kept safe by the good, unimpaired, safe drivers you literally run into that keep you on the road. You are selfish and don’t deserve licences…..you think it’s funny to break the law and endanger other road users and pedestrians ? Wait until you are impacted by some smart arse ‘doing his/her own thing’ and you or a relative are hurt or worse, then see how smart you are. I’d have a special task force of say, ‘police helpers’ to sit day after day, watching these videos and getting as much detail as possible from them, and punish you with ‘special circumstance’ fines and imprisonment. In 1980 I spent 7 months working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This kind of driving is not new to me. It seems to have definitely been imported. Remember the Middle Eastern taxi driver who drove through red lights then screamed to a halt at a green light? When asked why he stopped at the green light he answered that his cousin could drive through the intersection from the other direction at any moment! It's an old story so don't attack me for being racist.

Practically everyone who crossed Dorcas St in Southbank when the dealership was there. Technicians used to 'test drive' them at close to double the speed limit.

Yeah from the angle of the camera I'm assuming he was on a motorbike. If the be the case, pretty stupid to tangle with a car like that no matter who is in the right...

Can we agree nationwide that if you go through a red light on purpose, you automatically get your license suspended? Sooo many near misses and accidents because people are being impatient and can’t wait for the green. It terrifies me that one day, even though I’ve checked, there will be some stupid cnut that I failed to see, drives through a red and kills me 😒

That's ridiculous. Punishment severity must always depend on the circumstances. Often there will be a "left turn on red permitted after stopping" been there for years and then the elite remove it. Of course many people continue to turn left on the red after stopping, particularly late at night.

When i was younger, if i was at the front i would take off immediately when the light turned green. Now that i am older and a touch wiser, i'll always wait a few seconds incase some dumb fuck runs the light.

I'm of the opinion that every traffic light system that is being installed, upgraded or having major maintenance done should be getting a red light camera installed... There are clearly not enough out there anymore, and with the price of technology being incredibly low these days, it's confusing as to why we've just stopped having them... Yet they can find the cash to pay people to sit in cars with a speed camera attached all day.

I really wish you could send dash cam footage to the police and have them fine the offending drivers. If everyone knew that breaking the road rules in front of any vehicle may result in a fine, maybe a lot fewer people would do it.

if one goes through a red a stop or a give way and they wreck someone they should have to pay for damages personally, there should be no insurance bailouts

Today we learn: it's sufficient to only check one direction of traffic, indicating = instant right of way, giving way at roundabouts is optional, and P-plate = (P)henomenal driving
