Mad how much natural ability is required, seeing some of these you players hit 170 finishes etc is mental

been throwing for about 20 years, got my first 180 then next week got another, a year later got another then a week later got another, 4 in total, i get a 180 about every 10 million darts thrown hahaha, never thought id ever get one- i know the joy of getting one when you're average at best :)

I guess mechanical vs rythme throws really do matter. Ive been playing since im 12 to, now i am 16 en i throw a 180 every so 20 to 30 minutes, however you dont win games with 180's
Good advice for beginners!

I'm in my late 20's been playing for 6 months I've hit 2 180's and a 131 checkout. My problem is I'm so inconsistent I can throw an 80 average one leg and then a 40 average the next... Drives me crazy!
Very good interviewer (I very rarely say that), and some very useful tips from Merv.
No non-sense advise. Thank you!
very good info from the King.
exactly why I watched this video, the king has a very nice throw
As far as holding the darts I started out with a rather complicated grip but did very well very quickly. After I'd been playing and moving up the ranks for about 2 years I seemed to reach a plateau. The best thing and also the most difficult thing I ever had to do was change my grip and release. I realized that the more I simplified my shot the less there was to go wrong with it. It took over 1 month but changing to a very simple 3 fingered grip and losing the spin I used to put on my darts helped me tremendously. From that point on in less than 2 more years I made it to State Champion. I owe it all to having the sense to simplify my grip and release.
I’m someone who’s only experience with darts was my old man down the boozer, past couple weeks I’ve started playing and found it’s incredibly entertaining and skilful, obviously I’m useless at it but that doesn’t bother me because it’s literally one of those games where you get better and better after every shot. Also top class video, don’t even know who either blokes are but 👌🏻👌🏻
Nice advise. This man knows his stuff.
Really good video! It was confirmation of right path for me.
Thanks so much for the tips merv you're an absolute diamond
Brillant breakdown..
LONG LIVE THE KING 💙
I base my throwing style from this legend!
Thanks Merv. Thats what I wanted to know
it works thengz alot
The end is perfect. The miss should be vertical - power. Not horizontal. Excellent explanation for a beginner!
Like his throwing action nice to watch
Very good tips the pushing thing helped me very much now I do not pull the dart down anymore. And there is no "how to throw darts" so he can not say "hey do this and that" he just can give you some tips like do not copy your throw, throw how it feels good etc. But there are these few basics everyone should do

Yes. This is like my 10th video and it's basically like uhh... I throw like this... and it is all different. Not like this is the basics of throwing a football/baseball. It's like after a sixer you just kinda feel it out.
Good tips here. Thanks Merv.

Such a nice looking throw
Darts is all down to the individual IMO i was throwing ok but very inconsistent and someone told me to stand sqaure to the oche which not many people do but since changing my darts hasnt been better
Awesome tips
Right..and don't back the dart flight into your eyeball during your throw. That hurts !
The King
feel the same when i throw good advice
Like king
Been playing since January I’m 24 and I’ve only hit 4 180s but hit a 160 with 2 bulls and a 170 but I’m looking to improve my game
I have almost the same grip as him and i never even knew who he was.
Kings year 2022

I have 3 sets of darts, only mervyns are the most confortable for me
that relaxed darts-athlete look... :) I'm just jealous because my game doesn't improve
Proper advice for once
I'll be a pro in no time....
Rule No1 be as miserable as fuck
Darts can be intuitive. It's like throwing a ball. You don't really aim, just make hand and eye cooperate. Takes years of practice to perfect, but what doesn't?
Pull is a fallacious force.
Wtf does he know :)

Mervyn King is a quality player, You calling him rubbish just shows how ignorant you are on the subject you should stop watching darts full stop you are clearly clueless.

Sam you must be one of the best players. What's your dart history? Just asking.
What a load of rubbish. He's not giving any tips, he's just telling people how he does it. That doesn't help anyone

I think that is the point though. It is an individual thing. No two dart players hold the dart the same. Or throw the same. Do what feels comfortable for you. There is no secret. You have to practice a lot. If you have good hand eye coordination and put in the hours. You will become a good player, no question. How good is probably up to natural ability though. Practice can only take you so far. I know a few guys that have practised 10-15 hours a week for 20 years that are good. But not as good as 16-year-olds that have been practising the same for 2-3 years. It is what is I suppose.
