Darth Vader's Cape Design Is INSANE
Ойын-сауық
Darth Vader is one of the most iconic characters in movie history, and is definitely one of the most beloved in the Star Wars franchise.

Part of him being so memorable as well as menacing is his long, dark cape, which gives the old timey vibes of him being an evil lord of the sith. Without this cape, he wouldn’t be anywhere near as iconic, since, as we can see thanks to a glitch in the game battlefront 2, he looks very weird and just plain silly without one.
But other than looking cool, why did he wear this cape? Believe it or not, it was actually something of deep strategic importance which, if absent, could cause Vader a world of trouble. The cape was made out of armorweave, something which we don’t know a lot about in canon, though it had some level of resistance to blaster fire and lightsaber strikes. Similar material was also used for Count Dooku and Asajj Ventress’ capes.
In legends though, we have a lot more details on this material, and it had some unexpected benefits. The cape provided significant protection against environmental hazards and potential damage, whether it be violent, toxic and acidic bursts of gunk, or fire which may have been encountered on a world like Mustafar. It also prevented everyday buildups of grit and other things, keeping the suit in working order without clogging the interior filters constantly. I wonder if that extends to buildups of other things… maybe even sand.

To Vader, looking good is more important than looking where you’re going

I love Darth Vader so much one of my favorite villains of all the time and he is one of the greatest villains in all of cinema history and his cape makes him look badass 😊
Without cape, he looks like Anakin with a helmet
So basically it was Health and Safety PPE.

Ironically, he actually would need it, and it's quite a heavy Cape due to the materials it's made of.
a villain with a big dark cape is a symbol of authority and intimidation on top of the armor weave
Let's be real, he just wanted to look cool
a sith lord needs to look fly too
Phasma, "So I get my own quarters and increased pay? That's not enough. You have to add a cape to my uniform."
Because when he approaches, he wants his victims to see the breath of death blowing toward them upon the winds of regret. When there is no wind, he wants his peers to see death gracefully flowing behind him at every turn, sweeping the ground as it chases the every step of its master and feeds on all those whom he steps over.
Both cool and it keeps his back safe due to some vulnerable devices there. Kinda a shame its "flameproof" material seems kinda bs when he seems to always get it damaged in most media, but a battle damaged Vader does look quite horrifying yet also sad.

Lol, they are very selective with the flame proofing then. At least in the comics, it has been burned quite bit, most notably in fortress vader. There are a couple other instances that I can think of, such as the comic where tarkin hunts vader, I believe that they mention there that the suit is fireproof, but the cape still burns. I'm sure that there are more, but I can't think of them right now.
Are jedi robes and mandalorian capes also made up of this armorweave material?
My KZread Recommendations at 3am:
VADER is a legend and will always be!
@StarForceOne Wow, I had no idea...at least it also has a useful purpose👍
The Grand Inquisitor didn’t wear a cape in Rebels season 1 or in the comics
It's a wonder more material is not made from this blaster resistant stuff. Like stormtrooper armor. That way rebels would be less likely to kill you as soon as you storm(trooper) their ship and Han Solo would not knock you on your butt when he has you at a dead end on the Death Star. 🤔
I heard a rumour that Lando's love of capes came after seeing Vader for the first time.
Cuz it’s cool
Do I need to watch this video the answer is to look cool
Weren’t kamas (piece of skirt-like clothing worn by ARC Clone Troopers) created for the same reason?
I wonder if sand gets stuck in his cape easily.
Because its cool
Okay, but any canonical reason for not just making the material flush to the suit?
Too look cool🤔
Beside all of the other practical reasons, why wouldn't he? He's a Lord Of The Sith. In Vader's mind, he's the ruler of his Empire.
Which fan fiction is that silver stormtrooper from?
