It isn't actually that mad a thing to say when you consider England have been absolutely desperate for this type of player. It sounds mad because it's premature but it's a statement that has a good chance of becoming less ridiculous with every passing game.

I get Goldstein point, fans were calling for Gallagher's head after the first game vs Brazil but Bent still wants him in that midfield

This is England's problem people like Andy putting that much pressure on a young lad. He's had 10 good games and Andy has him as world class and 1 of England's most important players. Madness

This is the reason why England hasn’t won a trophy since 1966 as the media starts to overreact when player starts his career, they hype him so much only to disappoint both collectively and individually in their England career.

United fans are on another level. We've had years of this now. Especially the moment they start picking up a little bit of form (but then falter later into the season as usual). The delusion is crazy. Dunk looked a top CB 2 or 3 seasons ago. But Southgate wouldn't pick him. Preferring Mings and Coady. So it is typical of Southgate that he waits until Dunk is almost 32 and in poor form for Brighton before picking him for England. Can't understand why he didn't give Branthwaite some minutes. Why bother putting him in the squad if you are not going to give him some game time.

I feel you Andy, but I think England has several ways to shape the 11. I think, yes, Mainoo offers something different on either pitch area. But if he gets injured, there are several ways to patch things up.

Bellingham gamesmanship on Batshuayi was brilliant: gets him booked for delaying the free kick, Belgium momentarily destabilised, then he shows up unmarked in the box for the goal. The guy is priceless.

If he is good enough going to euros then he's one of the key players,he can as well start comfortably in the place of any the (first team)three man midfield of the English team and would do any of there jobs on team perfectly if there is need for substitution or injuries

I was eager to see Mainoo + Cole Palmer play together. Alongside Bellingham and Foden, it feels like that would have been a killer combination. Southgate needed to really play everyone in those two games.

Talksport themselves have already admitted, no media better at building these players up in order to inevitably tear them down. This build up phase is expected to be this ridiculous

I believe Mainoo should definitely be on the plane. However I differ on whether he starts. For the quality that Southgate has to choose from, we should be playing 4-3-3. The midfield 3 in my opinion would be Foden; Rice; Bellingham. Whereas the attacking 3 would be Grealish; Kane; Saka. Southgate needs to play on the front foot, and not be preoccupied with the opposition. The purpose of having a squad of 26 is that it will afford you options. It shouldn't imply that you pick players solely to play one formation, his preferred 4-2-3-1, and their ability to slot in. Southgate should be looking at the tactical formations, and who could be the best option for a multiple of choices. We're screwed at the back, in that he will partner Stones with Maguire. This in my opinion is why he will opt for 2 defensive first players in midfield. To provide cover for the defensive pair who lack pace.

if we are to measure the gap of quality between the 1st choice and the 2nd choice in that same position. And for that I say Luke Shaw is the most important player atm, because the 2nd choice is abysmal in comparison. There is also bit of a gap between Bellingham vs Maddison or Mainoo vs Gallagher

I know we live in this short term memory social media era but cast your mind back to 2015 and there was similar hype from red media regarding Marcus Rashford when he was 18 after he scored a few against Arsenal on his debut..... still haven't learned our lesson from hyping English players up to levels that they won't achieve.

Dunks mistake was bad...but a bit unlucky. Sliding on wet ground when trying to connect with the ball...actually got back up to get in a position to defend the cross...which was a great cross....and theres 1 Belgium player v 3 English in the box...nothing said about them! Maguire made a worse mistake against brazil but got away with it, so that mistake isnt mentioned...and that happens a lot!

Bit worrying if 'our most important player' can't win a game even though both Foden and Bellingham also played and he is more important.
