Rodri can operate anywhere on the football field and look class. In the last game against Wolves he almost operated as a 10 alongside KDB and pulled all the attacking strings. He glides across the pitch effortlessly and is a rock. He is a monster and anyone with any football knowledge acknowledges it, these awards are nothing but PR contests at this point.

Just goes to show that these awards are very often popularity contests. Anyone that is actually objective knows that Rodri is by far the most important player for City and has been for years. The fact that Foden won the Football Writers Award over him was also a joke.

Yes, even Pep thought it was a bit silly Foden won it by his reaction. I think he views Foden as a very useful player, but no where near a critical for City. Then we have players from Arsenal like Odegaard, Rice ahead of Foden.

Pep Guardiola absolutely knows that Rodri is the keystone to his team. He also knows that individual awards are meaningless. He played on the same team as Michael Laudrup - the player that Franz Beckenbauer said was the best of the decade (90s). Romario, perhaps the most clinical striker of all time said Laudrup was the #4 player of all time, behind Pele, Maradona, himself. Pep said, "The Ballon d'Or means nothing, because Michael Laudrup never won it."

I don’t blame people for not caring about individual awards as sometimes it’s about popularity nothing more than a PR contest and just goals. Rodri is a prime example of this. From a consistency perspective, he is Manchester City’s best player and every week he’s an 8/10 and even when he’s not at his best, he’s always influencing the game. His standards are so high and he doesn’t let them drop. In the premier league alone this season, he has 7 goals and 9 assists as a CDM he is unbeaten for Manchester City in the games in which he has played in, and yet no premier league player of the season nomination. Are these people even watching football this season. Just a reminder that Manchester City have lost 3 games in the premier league this season and all of their defeats came when Rodri was suspended highlighting his importance and irreplaceability in the team, the guy has gone 400+ days without losing in the premier league which is crazy. If he wasn’t suspended for the games that they lost in, we probably wouldn’t even have a title race in the premier league. A team of Manchester City’s caliber have struggled without their top CDM shows you how important the holding midfield role is in modern football. How is Erling Haaland nominated for PFA Player of the Season Rodri hasn’t. Yes he’s the top goalscorer in the premier league and he has scored a lot of goals, but he’s missed some games with injuries and even when he’s been healthy he’s still scoring goals at an impressive rate 25 goals in 28 games, he’s not always been at his best he’s been inconsistent has the most big chances missed in the premier league he has underperformed his expected goals and has ghosted in way too many big games. Rodri is Manchester City’s best player and has been more consistent than Haaland, but once again he lacks PR. Last year, for club and country, he won more trophies and individual accolades than he has defeats, and he didn’t even make the FIFPRO XI. He’s one of those players who doesn’t need PR or media hype because anybody watching him week in week out knows how much of a difference maker that Rodri has been for Manchester City this season and assuming he has a spell injured or missed more games with suspension they’re a different team when he doesn’t play and if you Rodri out of Manchester City would they win the premier league without him. You wonder why people don’t care about the Ballon Dor or take individual awards seriously.

If City go on to win the league, Rodri is literally player of the year. How he is not on the list to even be considered is criminal. Realistically it should be between Rodri, Rice and Watkins. Rodri and Rice have been the driving force behind their teams push for the title while Watkins has been the best forward in the league this year, 19 goals with no penalties and has the most assists in the league in a non-title chasing team. As a City fan, Foden has been amazing but Rodri has literally been untouchable and has been for 3 years on the bounce.

Just like to win Ballon Dor your chances become easy if you are madrid or Barca player, thats where EPL players have struggle, whereas in Prem awards you need to be Manutd, LIverpool or Arsenal player to have more chances of win even if you dont perfrom consistent. I mean Declane has few bad games, Virgil had few bad games, Halland haad few bad game, But when you think about Rodri, you cant think other then great foootball... If you scored more than 25 goals in a season it is common to be included in the nominees, you can check all the previous years nominees. This season Rodri was not as best as last season and this is because he missed someone as his second midfielder as he had last season who is Gündoğan and a lot of injury with Kevin De Bruyne as well affected his performances. New comers like Kovacic where not as expected and Pep needs to find another midfielder next season if not he will struggle as well.
