That’s just illusion created by media. Whole season city have lost 4 games and fortunately he didn’t play in it. But people forget the main reason was KDB not Rodri. Rodri has lost possession this season quite a few times. Still a top player but good only in Pep’s system. Since they’re dominant in possession he doesn’t face many challenges like other defensive midfielders

I’ve seen him lose possession so many times this season. Even more than flop Caicedo and he plays in best city team ever. Just imagine

@@zattanna74 nah! If KDB was not injured, league would’ve been wrapped up by now. Rodri is in good form since last season but as I said he looses possession a bit more than other midfielders. But he is lucky to be in that city team. Though he suits that system. That’s all. Before 2022 he was bang average. Pep was even worried that he didn’t even start him in ucl final against Chelsea. He has been good recently and people have recency bias. So they don’t understand that he is good but not great

Rodri deserves it more than any other player. Rodri is far better than Rice, in the case of Foden with or without him city will find a way to win. Reminder that all the games Man City lose are the games Rodri missed. So Rodri deserves it more than anyone.

Rodri is not getting any award but everyone knows he is simply the best.

Rodri not getting nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award I see why people don’t take individual awards seriously because sometimes they’re just glorified popularity contests that’s just about PR and popularity. Are people even watching football this season. In terms of consistency he has been Manchester City’s best player, he’s literally an 8/10 every week and even when he’s not at his best, you can see how much of an impact he has in the game and they’re a much better team when he on the field. In the premier league alone, he has 7 goals and 9 assists 16 G/A as a CDM, he is undefeated in the games in which he’s started and he’s gone a full year without losing a game in the premier league, yet again no nomination. This one stat sums up his importance to Manchester City and why every elite team needs a proper CDM. Manchester City have lost 3 games in the premier league this season and all of their defeats came when Rodri was suspended. In his absence the team really struggled and the fact that even a team as good as Manchester City aren’t the same team when he doesn’t play it just shows you how important the holding midfielder role is in modern football. If he wasn’t suspended for the games that they lost in, there wouldn’t be a close title race in the Premier League and one thing is inevitable for Manchester City when Rodri plays in the Premier League they either win or draw. With all due respect to Erling Haaland how is he nominated for this award over Rodri. 25 goals in 28 games are good numbers for him and he is still leading the premier league in goals and while he’s still scoring at an elite rate; he’s not been at his very best this season. He has struggled with injuries and even when fit he’s been very inconsistent and he’s gone missing in a lot of important games and he has missed the most big chances out of any player in the premier league this season and he’s a prolific striker on a team that creates so many chances. Haaland has underperformed his expected goals at times and has missed easy chances. Because he has more PR even though Rodri is far more important and consistent to the team as he is, Haaland got nominated even without being great by his standards. Remember in 2023, he had more trophies and individual accolades than defeats for club and country helped Manchester City win the treble by scoring the game winner in the champions league final yet again didn’t even make FIFPPRO XI. Players need PR and media hype, PR or not, I don’t care Rodri doesn’t need any of that because his performances on the field mean more than just media hype and popularity because anyone who watches the games would know how irreplaceable he is to Manchester City and if he has a period where he was injured or missed more games with suspension, they wouldn’t be in the title race in the premier league that’s how much of a difference Rodri makes for Manchester City he’s that good.

Any day rodri. City was struggling when rodri was not there. The moment rodri was continuously playing man city was a different team. He has not lost a single game. Just imagine, if any day man city can drop one player, kevin, haaland, rodri or foden. Guardiola would never drop rodri.

I was thinking exactly like Dan about Declan Rice. Shaka?? Seriously?? Everyone is choosing Rodri all day over Rice. Even with the Man City All Star team and players, Rodri is key to them winning or losing. If England has Rodri instead of Rice, they might just with the Euros.

Nah. This is what I call overhyping. He is just a system player. He got dispossessed quite a few times this season. I’ve seen it with my eyes. He is lucky that opposition play low block against city, else his mistakes would’ve cost them heavily. I don’t think he can do well in a team which is not as dominant as city. Simple. I think if u check his stats in EPL application, u can see he got dispossessed much more times than Declan rice did, that too playing fewer games.

So more passes more possession more crosses etc are pretty common. Even with everything more he has same stats as rice. But dispossessed is more. He is a good player but definitely not player of the season because there are more deserving candidates.

@@rockymaniasterArsenal have spent even more time in the opposition half than City this season so if Rodri has like a 0.2% lower pass completion rate it obviously doesn’t matter when he leads the league in all the stats that make City so dominant. It’s no coincidence that Rice’s best games for Arsenal come when he has Jorginho or Partey to pass the ball for him. It’s because he doesn’t have the passing range to break opposition structures himself whereas Rodri does so he goes sideways and backwards.Arsenal invert a fullback so they can pass for Rice. City have a CB step up to provide solidity.

VVD is lucky to be in that list, i would have put Saliba or Gabriel in his place ( that is if you wanted to put a defender there ) . But for me its between : Foden, Rice, or Rodri ( but he is not there ) Haaland had an up and down season and he hasn’t been as sharp as last season ( by his standards) .

If the award comes out before there is a champion crowned then that means whichever team wins the league doesn't matter. That means it's based on purely individual talent and then the answer is clear. Cole Palmer. But really all actually means is it's a popularity contest just like how Messi won so many awards.
