+mullerhun Pretty sure the difference is only in a different category of shields, i.e a small shield, like the buckler and Llewellyn shield have the same timing, however a knights shield will be different and so will a parry dagger.

mullerhun Chris Hansen Hartmann The buckler has the most parry frames of any shield, but shares the same timing as most micro-shields. I'm pretty sure the only thing with more parry frames would be the parrying dagger, if it exists in this game. I haven't found it, but I know it had more pframes in prior souls games.

What he meant to say was: Spam L1 to win, breakdance the hell out of your opponent to assert dominance.

I gotta be honest i hate people that spam the L1. This is my main weapon and i slay other players with it. Whenever i come up against someone else using all they do is spam the L1. And thats stupid. The L1 is good but shouldnt be the main attack all the time. This has a lot of potential and spamming the L1 only gets you parried.

No, the merchant lady at the shrine. There is a set of ashes at Archdragon Peak that you can give to her, after you do she will sell titanite chunks, twinkling, and scales. They are expensive but you can buy as many as you want

Not gonna lie, this is probably one of my all-time favorite weapons from the series. I love the concept and the L1 combo is incredibly satisfying, and while it is punishable if used too often, it can still be difficult to learn the timings of to counter, giving a slight advantage to the wielder at least in the beginning. I love it so much!

The initial L1 has incredible gap-closing distance and it circles around foes at the same time. This helped me a lot against many thrusting/piercing enemies since their attacks would miss me.

The fluid movements of the moveset makes me so happy.

In pve, the greatsword's l1 is good for getting around enemies and kinda throw the ai off balance (note: this does not apply all the time, just under certain circumstances).

If they patch it so that hit boxes are actually accurate, I would love pvp to death. I couldn't count how many times I've been hit by the air that was fanned towards me instead of the actual weapon on the legs of a caterpillar. I've literally been hit by a fume ultra that was 2 1/2 fume ultras away from me. You could've put two or 3 giant mushroom men from ds1 between me and the tip of his sword.

Another really good thing about this weapon: Not only is the L1 recovery time amazing, but indeed all the recovery times are. As such, you can parry bait with this thing extremely well. Whiff an R2, a rolling attack, or a running R1, and punish the attempt to punish with a parry. It works really well.

You have to try the Drang Twinspears, I dunno how competitive they are, but they are the most fun I've had in a souls game in a while.

Love your new format. Very professional and now the best weapon overviews. Keep them coming

I love this weapon. I found it invaluable against the Twin Princes and other horizontal-striking enemies. The weapon art spin attack will duck you low, under their blows.

This weapon right here is the one that would benefit the most from infusion. It's base stats are garbage, but its moveset is pretty good and fun to use. If this think was infusable, it'd be a pretty good weapon outside of it's ridiculous parry-able (I mean damn, its like the farron greatsword has a giant sign on its hilt saying "PARRY ME")

I got it recently it's amazing. The history behind the blade is awesome as well

mr. wolf The l1 is on the weak end for what it is along with the rest of the attacks considering this is sonic roll simulator invincibility addition. I invaded people last week using my father of Solaire quality build (Refined Astora UGS) and I easily out played them. The Astora ultra fun sword is earlier game and more dangerous with higher AR (IT CAN BE INFUSED TOO), longer reach + better r2 (1200 hit some gankers for amazing salt). I tried the Farron ultra l1 sword again yesterday and can't help but be upset with the lower damage it does despite being HEAVY and the fact it can be easily parried by a twat using studded gloves or a strainer labeled as a shield. It should be more dangerous and compatible with a fire buff. I would guess you'd have the most success invading later game below standard pvp meta at ~sl80-110 where people have less vigor, less parry gods, and more naïve play style (meaning they walk into your l1 rape).

I'm trying to answer the OP's question. I don't know what fools you've been facing outside of weeaboo no heal fights; you can sit back and watch them like people using the Dancer's spin cycle after the nerf. They can get lucky and hit you but it's not like you can't get away.

The Scythe or the Chaos Blade? I wouldn't upgrade the scythe until you get to the point that you want to just play around with different weapons. Chaos Blade is a better choice especially for pvp. The Scythe only gets like 176 base damage when it's fully upgraded plus scaling so its like 376 dmg which isn't great. It's got an interesting weapon buff but I don't know if it's viable in pvp. I wouldn't waste a slab on it

Loved the video very informative especially the tip about how you can parry with a great shield might try that out.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the Farron Greatsword. The moveset is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the L1 button, most of the potential of this weapon will go over a typical players head. There’s also the Abyss Watchers' nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their bossfight- their personal philosophy draws heavily from Artorias the Abyss Watcher, for instance. The Farron Greatsword users understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of this weapon, to realise that it's not just another boss weapon- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike the Farron Greatsword truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the lore behind the gesture "Legion Etiquette" which itself is a cryptic reference to something Miyazaki ripped off of Beserk. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Hidetaka Miyazakis genius PvP mechanics unfolds itself on their screens. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, i DO have an Artorias the Abyss Watcher tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin' personnel kid

+Christopher Agha you need some time to get into it. i played bloodbrone and ds 1 and 2 too and i really avoid pvp. but since there are some cool covenant weapons (speacially the curved wolf greatsword) i tried it out and it is so funny and satisfying to kill a bunch of guys. honestly it sucks when u get invaded, thats why i have my lame ass long sword but when you really want to play pvp search for ur favourite weapon, max it out and do it. its really really funny and with the time you will get better (git gud ;D)

+SilverusX I've become pretty hardcore at this pvp thing. You'd be amazed how people panic when hit with the undead hunter charm. That's when they go down. I'm currently doing artorias cosplay so I use the wolf blood greatsword and shield so nothing overpowered. I still suck at fighting ganks though

It's honestly very easy. I play just a simple sword and sheild, dark sword to be specific and I know apparently it's OP but I was using it before I ever heard that and I even stayed away from pvp all together, I used to because I love the darkwraiths and just wanted a change up in swords. What you wanna learn is how to control the space between you and the other, make it so that you're the one who controls it. Also learning how to punish attacks, the greatswords are immensely punishable and easy to fight against. And learn to take your time. There's no need to go balls in and a get a fight over with. Watch their movement,play the space, punish, and attack at your best moments.

don't know if you mentioned this in the video, but, from my experience in patch 1.0.8 the jump on the third L1 combo actually has invincibility frames while you are in the air, saved my ass a few times against outrider knights in PvE. thanks for the great video on my favourite DS3 weapon!

+aaron flores Not really. Sure, many scrubs just spam L1 but it's easy to dodge and parry. Anyone who knows how to use this sword actually rarely uses L1. Not a hard a weapon to deal with. The cancer is Estoc and katanas.

+Wiley Posner that defeats the whole point of using this sword lmao. L1 moveset is the only thing that makes it different to other UGS. Why bother using it if you "rarely" use the moveset then

That combo looks so rad!

Yeah, the Farron GS allows for some sick mobility and mob-sweeping all into single weapon. Riposte functionality also really sets it up to be paired with Hornet Ring imo. Last I tried with about 35 or 38 Endurance the combo lasts a full cycle and allows just enough to end with the 1st L1 sweep. Good mention for the hyper-armor as well, it's a great way to close in the distance or if you happen to be surrounded.

Excellent video, man! I don't even PvP yet (am at level 45 lol) so much of what you're saying is above me, but you did a great job.

nice to see this getting use. I picked it up to compliment my rapier and bow combo so I'm probably the most well rounded dex build I can imagine. Although the Wolf covenant sword seemed like it has potential to be amazing too but I haven't checked it much.
