Dark Matter is a sci-fi thriller series based on the blockbuster book by acclaimed, bestselling author Blake Crouch. The nine-episode series features an ensemble cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley.
Hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade, Dark Matter is a story about the road not taken. The series will follow Jason Dessen (played by Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who - one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago - is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.
Crouch serves as executive producer, showrunner, and writer alongside executive producers Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl for Matt Tolmach Productions, and Joel Edgerton. Dark Matter is produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.

As a teacher, I can corroborate that this speech is all too true in classrooms today.

I was lucky enough to have a physics professor similar to this one. He really understood his students and knew how to keep us captivated despite the tough topic and work load.

I think this is his friend, Ryan who won the Pavia award, acting like Jason (Joel Edgerton) - not the Jason from the other dimension. Joel acts, sounds & moves just like Ryan in this episode.

This appears to be the narcissism of a teacher who has not paid attention to the ``unbearable lightness of existence'' that a student feels.

I disagree. That is a classroom with a social function, a purpose. There is space for socialization, amenities but this is not the case there. In the relationship between teachers and students, educational institution and school community / academic community we can talk, debate, think about why there is so much demotivation, lack of interest, perhaps a lack of purpose in our work. It's something that can be either situational or systemic. But regardless of what the problem lies whether it is specific or structural, there are certain things that cannot be naturalized in an environment like that. If somone does not feel like studying, if the class is boring, if that person is sleepy, sick or simply don't feel like doing anything, don't stay out. Assume your absences and any low scores. There must be some respect for the teacher's work and the opportunity to learn something. It's not even a question of -liking- that person, that professional. Well, anyway, after all these years I understand that is something dialectical. It is not a binary logic, 2+2, "this or that". I'm a teacher but I'm also a student. I know how things go both ways.
