People can appreciate anthropomorphic animal characters, but I wouldn't call them furries. Also because of the negative connotation that comes with the word, but mainly because "thinking an animal character is neat" shouldn't automatically label someone. If someone watched Family Guy and said Brian is like their fourth favorite character, why would that make them a furry? What I'm saying is the word should be used for people who are significantly interested in anthropomorphic animals either normally or sexually. Not those who can like a few characters that also happen to be anthropomorphic. :)

Yeah, though I feel how it's used also implies some involvement with its community; I would say danny could justify saying he's not a furry because he isn't involved at all with its modern fandom community at all, but he also could just as easily justify saying he is a furry because he has a vested interest in anthro media.

Well, think of it this way: being a "trekkie" puts you specifically into the denomination of being a fan of Star Trek. Being a "furry", however, is more of a flag rather than just liking a show. These are the people who are fluent in Klingon (unironically), and fill their home with mint-condition collectibles and toys to the point of hoarding and seemingly refuse to shower. As far as that goes, this would be equivalent to people getting into fur-suits and fucking each other. Like, yes: those people exist within the fandom, but they are not wholly representative, and a lot of them probably don't even agree with that and/or think it's gross.

4:57 pretty much summarizes this whole thing, in a way. It's seriously the most common sentiment I've noticed of people realizing they're furry. You have NO IDEA how many comments I've heard to the effect of "I'm not a furry, but I like such-and-such..." Like... I feel that some people who enjoy anthropomorphism don't want to admit they're furry because it's become such a pejorative term. The Internet has kinda trained people to think that it's somehow gross or bad to have a harmless interest in things. Yes, furries are weird (speaking from experience), but the idea of someone being into bestiality because they're a furry is as ridiculous as calling someone a pedo because they like youthful-looking adult women. Just my two cents on it.

I don't consider myself a furry but I do recognize that I'm attracted to men, if I can visibly tell that it is an adult man, I have a high chance of being attracted to it It doesn't matter what species of humanoid man. But as soon as it gets visibly more animal, I start to be put off by it

The way I see it, only cowards use that phrase of "I'm not a furry, but...". Some people use it to justify hating on furries while crushing on anthros, while others use it to try and keep the stigma from latching onto them in fear of backlash. I say, own up to it and anyone who says otherwise can fuck off.

Poor Dan. Y'all need to let him live as he wants to live.

Being a furry is a decision. Saying you're a furry usually means you're part of the community who love anthropomorphic characters. You can like anthropomorphic characters without being a furry. So you're simply not part of that community. It's true that not everything about furries is sexual. However... Even when it's often declined by it's members, sexual stuff is still a major part of it.

Sexual stuff is actually a minority of the fandom. People just portray the fandom as mostly sexual or entirely sexual.

i like how they bypass the stigma of thinking cartoon characters are sexy in general and go straight to the real controversy

I think this is funny how all of us as kids have that one moment where we discover something is really hot to us.

At first I was like: "Dan ain't no furry" But like, ... 32 minutes kinda speaks for itself

We all knew Dan is a furry. The real twist is that Arin's a furry too.

The furry head (or whatever its called) is actually Ryan's since it was given to him in mail by an actual furry. It's on their Super Mega channel.

This is great, I love when the suit head appeared on 10 min power hour. If Dan likes furry comics he should read house pets.

Now I wanna give Danny a high five.

Blacksad and Maus are two of my favourite graphic novels, and I don't even consider myself a furry... Like Danny points out, the way the comics choose species to instantly describe each characters' traits (timid mouse Jews vs wicked cat Nazis in Maus, wolves and polar bear gangsters in Blacksad) work to tell the story in a really unique way.

"Have you read Blacksad" Dan. That's basically the furry dogwhistle.

I've rewatched the intro like 10 times before actually starting the video
