    Danny got it right. The reason Casemiro is struggling is because Ten Hag has changed the system. He’s playing with two tens and it’s leaving Casemiro exposed - no holding midfield can stop three men running at him. The idea is to have fullbacks pushing into midfield to create the box of 4 in the midfield, but United’s full backs can’t do it, or at least are not getting the system at the moment. Media have a habit of blaming individuals when it’s usually down to the system.

    If we’ve learned anything about Casemiro last season is it takes him a few games to get his rhythm he was rusty every time he was suspended. Players losing the ball as often as they have in the first two matches (81 times v Wolves) is as bigger problem as the system.

    Ten Hag is trying to make the attacking players work harder but that isn't something you can just change like a switch, it takes ages to change the mentality of players like that, in all honesty Ten Hag should've first brought through players who were ready made for his system that don't need developing and once the team was stable and set then go after the younger players like Mount and Antony to develop. Theres a reason why Grealish was able to adapt to City, they could afford to not rely on him and let him take his time and adjust.

    the formation has to change. ETH cannot expect Mount to push on and press but also help casemiro defend the centre of the park. Rashaford doesn;t press, Sancho doesn't press, antony doesn;t press, only Mount presses.

    The difference is Pep has a very competent team around him to get world class alternatives in each position. If one doesn't work, another £100M player comes in. If ETH even gets an alternative, he gets overpriced 3rd choice signings at best.

    Signing Mount mystified me at the time, we urgently needed defensive or at least athletic/physical midfielders, not another tippy tappy type. Prime Roy Keane or Vieira would be ideal for United, plus wingers who actually track back. Far too many lazy players who don't compensate with plenty of goals to justify their place.

    Am not an analyst but the last two games were dreadful because Bruno was pressing the Keeper instead of Rashford so when the ball reach the middle of the field Bruno is still down there and a big hole is created. If you look at last year mactches, Weghrost was doing the pressing like a madman and United were not getting run over in the midfield like previous two games. As far as I have understood, Ten Hag ball aka Ajax playstyle will only work if the team press like one big unit where players are tied with a string to one another and work with total coordination.

    You can’t play a 4-3-3 with just one holding DM and two 10s that press high up and float about to win possession. That’ll always leave gaping holes. Also, the positional awareness of AwB and Shaw is below average, hence all the space to run through. It’s the system that has let down the team, and the disgraceful finishing.

    Its obvious what ETH is trying to do... emulate Pep. Pep plays a 4-1-4-1 with Rodri in holding midfield but as they hold so much possession and the other midfield players and inverted wing backs cover the half space it works. ETH has just moved too early thinking we can play like that. But we can't yet. Also whilst Antony can do the tracking back... Rashford is dreadful at it leaving us exposed on the flanks. Man just needs time and proper backing from (hopefully) our incoming new owners.

    You cannot expect a midfielder to be the only defensive man in the middle of the pitch it’s down to the tactics as it clear that United doesn’t attack as they used to under Ferguson & they are a long way from terrorising teams at old Trafford as they don’t have the personalities at the club

  • @Nightopian1982

    That's exactly what Keane constantly goes on about. No personalities in that side. Also, I don't get the impression that the players particularly enjoy playing together for United. Disgusting attitude really. The players need to change their attitude, the manager can't make them. Sancho should knuckle down and put the work in instead of moaning and undermining the manager, cheeky sod. Unfortunately it's become the way in football now for the manager to be the one who's axed when things go wrong. That's the big problem with United's players. They think they're undroppable, or will not be sold, so instead of taking genuine responsibility (and not the shitty interview excuses they usually give), they just lumber on. Whole mentality of the club is all over the place, and I feel a little sorry for ETH, because the job is a poisoned chalice, and he needs time to properly change things. There's nobody I can see available who will be a suitable replacement anyway. De Zerbi is a fine young manager, but he'd be mad to leave Brighton.

  • @Nightopian1982
    @Nightopian19829 ай бұрын

    People say the season is only four games old, but the difference between this United and the ones that have gone by is that even if they had a slightly stuttering start (they struggled badly in the first few matches of the 07/08 season, for example), you always felt with the players they had that it would click pretty swiftly afterwards. I don't get that with this bunch of players. Okay, they were bad last season at the beginning, but after their improvement, they almost dragged themselves through the rest of the season after the EFL Cup win. It's been like this ever since Fergie finished a decade ago. No consistency in quality, application or attitude. You can't just keep changing the manager and hoping a new one will immediately find success. This squad will take another couple of years to improve significantly. I think it's high time us United fans accept we're not going to be at the top again for a long time, certainly not while the Glazers are at the helm.
