I met Danny when I was 16. I have a huge Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. collection at home and I worked in a restaurant on the beach. We had work clothes we had to wear but no rules on hats. I wore my Dale Sr. hat everyday. He saw it while I was bussing tables and called me over to his table to talk. That was 10 years ago, now I race stock four cars on local dirt tracks in NC and I got the number 3. The Earnhardt family and there humble beginnings is what makes you guys so special i love the podcast keep it up guys

Having been married to a gal from Greensboro NC the dynamic of the Earnhardt family is not just them I honestly believe it’s. A southern thing! Everyone keeps to themselves and stays out of each other’s business but if you try and mess with one family member it’s almost like a Morse code goes out and the family will circle the wagons around that one person! But you don’t ask questions about personal matters, that’s taboo!

I was driving from Iowa to Texas once (I got word my grandmother was being taken to hospice care, that is the only reason I made that trip in one day. But while I was going south, just as you get to Missouri…it was two weeks after Dale’s wreck. I had one of the 3 stickers w/wings on it. But I get to MO and a dude is passing me. He pulled in front of me and I noticed he was signaling me. He held up 3 fingers. I did so back to him. It was one of the kindest and most memorial thing that happened to me during that time.

I loved your dad. Not like him, I loved him. The week he died I was in Dallas and I drove to put something in the remembrances at a memorial at TX motor speedway. I sat there and bawled my insides out. For Xmas in 2000 I had saved enough and bought tickets for my whole family to a race, and it made me just sick that I wouldn’t get to see *him* race!! I had a good friendship with Tom Higgins and *he* was really important in getting me past it…Tom was a scamp!! He told me stories that nobody but Tom could tell. But I tell you, I still feel the loss.

About racing with Dale Jr in the street stocks, etc. It was pretty good, but imagine finding out you are adopted 😮, but then that your blood dad is Dale Earnhardt 🤯!! 🏁🏁🏁P.S. would you happen to be the super guitar playing, singing, song writing friend of mine, Brad Wilson from South Georgia ? It's been awhile,, glad to see that you are still kicking, because I'm getting on up in years,,but you have gotta be older than dirt 😂 by now. I don't know. Keep on rocking brother. B.R.

Another amazing interview/podcast. Hearing Danny talk reminds me of your Dad. I had a couple of very short interactions with Dale Sr. at Sports Image and can see the similarities in the cadence and tone of their voices as well as the quietness in both. I remember thinking that Dale Sr. seemed reluctant to say too much in front of people he didn't know that well. At least, that was my take on him. But he also seemed more approachable away from the track than most might think, but also understood the power and aura of his personality. Also, there was a funny story he once told all of us (at Sports Image) about a new car he bought for Teresa that he put in a ditch one night. At least he laughed about it.

But that’s the kind of stuff that non drinkers do when they do drink once in a while 🤔😂 or if they hang out with ken Schrader, the garage area alcoholic or a better way to say it is the garage area party animal

Dale was a hard man on his family . Jr. , Kelly & Kerrie. I'd say his wives to accept the last one. I wont say her name. Dale was my driver & I cried my eyes out the day he died . I can't watch videos about Dale without crying. I enjoy these podcasts so much. Especially the ones with the family.I think Jr. And Kelly are close like my little brother and I, we came up hard. I lost my dad at 6 yrs old and got a lousy stepfather. My brother & my cousin and I raced every thanks to my Uncle. We had a blast. Racing saved us . Thanks for these podcast 's ! They are great ! I got my name on Dale Jr's mountain dew car ! That was better then an autograph!

I drive by the old Concord Speedway (the one on 601, is that the one he's talking about??) every day, and it hurts my heart to know it is long gone... shoot, just before they started tearing it down I bought a Celica Supra parts car from one of the shops located behind the track. Crazy the car lasted longer than the speedway (mostly torn down, aside from the running gear, which I need to pull and send to a buddy down in Georgia for one of his projects, he's sending me a 20R for a 77 Celica GT Liftback like my Dad owned when I was like 9-13 years old). Crazy how quickly things have changed in this area!!!

I know the Concord track relocated repeatedly so I wasn't sure if he was meaning one of the earlier locations... figured maybe he was talking about an earlier one but wasn't sure.

Looking at locations I'm guessing he's talking about the second location maybe? Still off 601, but near 73.
