Hi Danielle, you are the one of the few so called "vocal coaches" that noticed "heart-broken sound" from the beginning of the song and realized it is a tragic song. Many others so called "vocal coaches" were bouncing their heads off to the beats of the music commenting how cool and "dancy" it is. That means you are really feel and understand the music in general and the voice of Dimash in particular. Thank you and love from Kazakhstan.

👉 Dimash's broken, delicately breathy voice, a simple melody with uncomplcated pop rhythm (reminiscent a bit of 'I Miss You'), loving, sad but also comforting words and haunting images... and this adorable smile from Dimash... tears flow over my smiling face. For me, the lyrics, the pop beat and the images of the video all go together very well. Dimash leaves his beloved because she has someone else. He knows that the other can become dangerous to him, but he doesn't know that his beloved is being blackmailed by this secret policeman. He thinks she's happy. Dimash assures her that everything is 'okay', he accepts and she should too. Life goes on and the pain will fade. It seems easy for him to give up his love. (pop beat, almost like a fast heartbeat) ... but you can hear the pain in Dimash's voice. He's fooling himself and her. The secret policeman, who suspects something, wants to catch Dimash. When he finally realizes that the young woman will never love him, he gives her the 'choice'. She flees with Dimash... A shot is fired... End? It leaves us stunned. What will happen? You brood and brood, but you can't get it out of your head. For whom is the glass always half full and for whom is it always half empty? ... Fascinating, clever ... great! Director Alina Veripia was blown away when she learned she was to create the story and video for Dimash's new song. Dimash also chose Alina's favorite from 4 stories: A beautiful and deep love story set in the years of Stalin's repression. This love is so deep, pure and immortal, It defies the horror, the fear, the penetrating cold and darkness of this time. The video was recorded in color but looks black and white, very dark, spookey. Only the lovers are shown in a bright, sun-drenched, warm, gold-bronze setting. These scenarios reinforce the intense feelings emanating from Dimash's breathy, delicate voice and the haunting, magical and beguiling, but also from the frightening and disturbing images. The location was St. Petersburg, appropriate to the dark year 1937 in which the video takes place. (Source and more information on Dimashnews) - Music - Igor Krutoy, *1954 in Ukrainian SSSR, singer and songwriter in Ukrainian and Honored Artist and music titan in Russia (billionaire). He came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship. - Lyrics - Igor Nikolaev, *1959, Russian singer and songwriter; Honored Artist of Russia. He also wrote the lyrics for „I Miss You“. - Written and directed by Alina Veripia * Backstage: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZXersptuhpnOj5s.html * Danger! Quoting Alina Veripya, the video director and writer of the script : “This is a very beautiful and deep love story that takes place during the years of Stalin’s repressions. In this horror, in this piercing cold, in this crime, the love of two people is born, as if they did not come from this world. And they are so pure, so beautiful in their feelings, that no darkness can extinguish this light." On the question of location, the team made an unanimous decision to shoot the MV in St. Petersburg, because no other city could convey the flavor of the harsh and terrible year of > 1937. Their love story is invaded, and broken by NKVD (old name for KGB), representatives of the regime`s power, who could pick on you for any reason, take anything from you, throw you in jail, legally execute you, and even assassinate you, shoot you in the back. The officer represents power, so he can claim anything he wants, and he can get away with anything. It`s not about forbidden love, it`s about the attitude of people representing power in an authoritarian regime, to destroy, reduce a "world full of color" down to only "a flash in the sky". The switch back and forth between images of the happy couple and images of the girl being pestered by the NKVD officer, has the purpose of highlighting the contrast between the sun-lit beauty of good and love, and the grim-colored ugliness of evil intentions. The subject of the story is the fate of beauty, good and purity under an oppressive regime, and the self-entitlement of evil, that puts it`s brutal stamp over it, with the gunshot. The screen going black before the gunshot helps keep the focus on the attitude of evil, who doesn`t know to do anything other than hurt, successfully or not - instead of who the NKVD agent managed to hit or not. That gunshot remains ringing in the dark, making it timeless, leaving us with a bitter taste, and making it a powerful reminder of historical regime brutality.

This video is set in 1937 during the Stalinist purges. The secret police had total power. They executed millions of people--not just their political enemies, but also ethnic minorities who they considered "untrustworthy." Musicians, dancers, and artists were among them. Dimash as the hero perhaps represents both of these categories. End? It leaves us stunned. What will happen? You brood and brood, but you can't get it out of your head. This video is set in 1937 during the Stalinist purges. The secret police had total power. They executed millions of people--not just their political enemies, but also ethnic minorities who they considered "untrustworthy." This video shows he is a musician and she is a dancer. Musicians, dancers, and artists were among those falsely accused of crimes and executed. His song Daididau was written by a Kazakh dissident writer, poet, scientist and teacher, Mazhan Zhumabaev, who was arrested and murdered during one of these purges in 1938.

OK, for those who do not know love stories under the totalitarian regime of the 30s and the Russian mentality. The policeman is in love with her and forced her to be his girlfriend, but he also knows that she does not love him. But she loves Dimash and the policeman was informed that they were secretly dating and he decided to catch them together. Dimash managed to escape. The policeman understands that she will never be his. So he decided to kill Dimash. He brought her to Dimash and pretended that he was letting her go, and when she ran with Dimash, he came out and shot Dimash in the back. He used her to kill Dimash. Got it or not ? This is a dramatic intrigue, so that people draw different scenarios in their heads for another week. But you don't have to do that if you follow the lyrics. Has anyone ever wondered why the video does not match the lyrics? This is because the video shows the story before the shot, the lyrics tell about what happened after the shot. It can be concluded that Dimash left her to protect her, but the shot says the opposite. To make it more clear, I will make a more open translation of the lyrics in the chorus. (Shot) - Dimash tells her: Let it be this way, OK. I'm leaving now (leaving this world) , it is OK. You were in my destiny like a flash of light in the sky. Don't cry and do not regret. Just wipe the bitter tears from your eyes. Time will heal us. Then we will understand that the heart no longer hurts. As always, life is right, but mark my words. All this happiness happened because you loved. Can you imagine that the clip with sunlight in the apartment was filmed at night????????? Can you imagine that the clip with sunlight in the apartment was filmed at night????????? You are entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion not everything has to be a spectacular with power and range. Music is about conveying story and emotion... and he does it beautifully in this song. That is artistry. But again, everyone has a right to their opinion. Just my two cents.

Yes, I think Krutoy failed Dimash in this case. There is nothing wrong with the singing itself, the song itself is unremarkable. Worse, it survives only because of the video. Take the video away and what remains is an uninspired pop tune, not worthy of DImash´s attention.

@@corinne1453 It is subjective and it just didn't do anything for me. For me this is the type of song Dimash could just phone in. And it's certainly a song just about any other modestly talented pop singer could perform. Still love Dimash but if I were to introduce Dimash's music to someone new, this song would not make the list.

@@corinne1453 You are right, Dimash first and foremost serves the message of the song. The vocal technique was his choice. And I think it was a good choice, for a song that speaks about a break-up (sad remembering and well-wishes, as it was meant for the song in itself ; sadness and encouragement as it was meant with the music video). None of it asks for power or high notes. And that soft and airy technique is just as complicated to perform, if not harder, as your voice can cut off very easily, at the very edge between note and just breath. And the beat of the song is suggestive for moving forward even though you`re sad / fear and danger under a repressive regime (for the MV version of the meaning) The reverse-piano sounds at the beginning were a great choice as well, for setting the scene. Two cents from me :)
