UFC 187: Johnson vs. Cormier was a mixed martial arts event held on May 23, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event was expected to be headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between then-champion Jon Jones and top contender Anthony Johnson. However on April 28, following Jones' hit-and-run incident, the UFC decided to strip him of the title and suspend him indefinitely. He was replaced by the previous title challenger Daniel Cormier, who was scheduled to face Ryan Bader in the main event of UFC Fight Night 68.
On the heels of relentless grappling and outstanding conditioning, Daniel Cormier practically obliterated Anthony "Rumble" Johnson en route to capturing the light heavyweight title via a third-round rear-naked choke.
Cormier's constant pressure, persistence, and ability to overwhelm Johnson were the main things we will remember from this title fight.
Johnson was able to land in fashion when Cormier gave him the distance, but he just didn't do enough in close quarters to ward off DC's wrestling.
Rumble's inability to push Cormier off him on the ground was also significant in this fight, which was a by-product of sapped energy and inferior technique.
All in all, the Olympian followed his cut-and-dried game plan to repel one of the best power punchers in the history of the sport.
But after he claimed the title with a rear-naked choke in the third round, Cormier delivered perhaps his biggest shot.
"I have a message for one man," Cormier said during his postfight interview with Joe Rogan. "Jon Jones, get your [expletive] together. I'm waiting for you."

Other than the late 2000's...there was a small period where it was stacked. Man, if Rumble had DC's work ethic and wrestling, the sky was the limit.
1:13 Who breaks from a clinch with a head kick? Rumble was a savage RIP 🪦
Rip Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, I was completely shocked to hear of his passing as so many of us were. I was always inspired by your class act inside and out of the ring, you are a legend in your own right and i hope your spirit flies high in Gods light. Condolences to the family friends trainers and associates all around, GOD BLESS~~~
R.I.P Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. 🙏

I still can't believe he's gone. One of my earliest memories of watching UFC on TV was rumbles debut fight. He came in and looked like a pitbull and he fought like one. We were the same age. Shared the same bday. Undoubtedly one of the most underrated fighters ever and one of my all time favorites. R.I.P Rumble. Thank you for the memories
Rumble put the belt on DC. That dude was in a class of his own. Great man, great sportsmanship. He knew DC earned that, because he was throwing some power at that boy lol. Hell of a fight. I never knew Rumble put the belt on him. Thats too legendary.

At 00:29 that punch that put DC on his stomach is insane. DC is not a small guy even big people have trouble moving big people around let alone make them fly. Rumble was a freak of power
Rumble's power is unreal. The fact that punch still had that much impact even when DC was moving away from it was ridicilous!

RIP rumble underrated but a beast and a legend! Great fight btw🙏🏽💯
I don't care what anybody says , in this exact moment in time johnson had the best chance of beating Jones more than anybody else.
Rip💯
There was like 4 differ3nt times DC was ready to fight jones and then jones would come up hot for steroids because he was to scared to face him normally who knows if DC would have won one of those times then their second fight he was still hot so became no contest. You think he just happened to not be juicing the first fight? Nope he for sure was when they were more lenient about it
If that 0.36 bomb landed,cormier sleeped well👊😄

The third best light heavy during Jon Jones era, and they never got to fight. That's a shame.
Johnson was truly a champ, he submissively put the belt on DANIEL C.
He could have been in the Best shape at the time and couldn't get any more in shape you know there is a limit, but I say that you should always improve on everything but I say he was in the Best shape he can be in right there at the time
Daniel could have been even better if he had gotten in better shape.

I have to say that people think that because one man is muscular and the other one is more on the chubby side doesn't really matter when you are in shape that is from the inside of your body and out too so he can have more stamina then that one who is in shape he is considered in shape because he is in shape because of his form but it's like someone who is trying to look good and get there body a certain way compared to someone who is training to get better and stronger and improve on every aspect of the game and his body but this is prime example of who is the better man and stronger and just is not ever going to be built like him but that doesn't mean he is not in shape if you know what I'm saying he might never have a body like him but everyone is built different, people think if you work out that you are going to have a body like that not everyone is going to be built like that some people do work out more than others and the one who works The hardest sometimes is not the one who is the most ripped in shape one so lesson learned
