Topuria is just another Leon and DDP. Begging for title shots but when they finally get the belt, suddenly they need to really sit and think about what is best for their legacy. Ilia doesn’t want to fight. He has become a national hero in Spain, and he’s having a great time riding that media wave. It’s funny that they say they’ll fight anyone to get their shot at the title but will fight no one once they have the belt.

So far the BMF is a fake belt for guys that will never be champions. Only way for that belt to become legit is to offer it to Ilia. Jorge Masdival beat in spectacular way Ben Askren, then beat Nate Diaz to win the BMF and then lost 3 straight fights, and was still BMF champ, that's a joke belt!

Champ can decide some things, but not as new champ...when you have def. for a while then you are the "real" champ..:) Volk and Max is the ones, and Volk can use some rest so then Max it is with or without BMF. Dana should just book it..:)

3 reasons why I can see ilia turning that volk rematch down. 1) he wants to fight a recovered volk and be recovered himself. it’s hard to believe he’s been committed to training with all the champ media he’s been doing 2) he wants it in spain and thinks if he waits he might get it, as well as not wanting to be at volks home crowd 3) he wanted to wait to see what the other fights turned out like : max yair movsar and even the suga, mcgregor, islam pipedreams

Ilia doesn't want to fight Volk this year, because then people will still say it was too soon after last knockout.

I think Ilia is the kind of dude to try stuff, just in case it works. He asks for McGregor, Suga, Islam, Holloway, this belt, that belt, venue etc. He seems like the kind of guy to ask for an unreasonable discount, just in case, maybe a miracle will happen. What it seems like to me or something: Essentially, Ilia does not want the "stock" of his reputation to drop, because if that were to happen then in his mind it would be as if he is worthless (If he loses to Max but the BMF belt is not on the line, he has no reason to think that he is worth something as if the BMF belt is on the line it is like "I lost but I am not worthless because at least I am recognized as a BMF which means that my reputation did not drop even though I lost. In the case of Volk, in his mind if he loses then his stock will drop and if he wins he does not get anywhere because in his mind he is the better fighter because he beat him already. Ilia has not accepted the idea that you can have your stock dropped but still see yourself being seen by others with a high reputation, like how Max's "stock dropped" when he lost to Volk several times but later on was "On top of the world" after winning the BMF belt in the manner that he did. Max knows "he has something" even if he loses. Ilia does not think that way so he relies on reputation/what other people think/whatever to fill that void. It could it could be the possibility that Ilia stays inactive long enough where his belt is vacated by the decision of the UFC, only for him to still think that he is of a high reputation after losing the belt (like Henry Cejudo?) then one day get back in the octagon after a long layoff only for him to be surprised that he is being dominated by his opponent (because he has been inactive for so long and the sport/landscape/whatever "passed him up").

I dont understand why the champions don't fight the top contenders but when they were climbing to get to the top they say oh I want to fight the best guys then they get the title and start picking and choosing if your the champ and claim to be the best why not fight the next guy in line

Hi DC, greetings from Spain! I think I totally get the mentality of Ilia Topuria in general and in this case: He is sure he gonna become one of the greatest (or the GOAT) fighters of combats sports, so every step he takes goes on that direction. One way would be, fight anyone anywhere anytime and by winning all get that position but that is risky because MMA is not a game, so he wants every fight makes the most, fighting Volk next after 2 straight KOs doesnt give Ilia much benefit if he wins, but becoming “double champ” with BMF it does… maybe its not doable but he will try that, if not, he will take step that takes him closer to something bigger (tittle fight for lightweight, super fight with Mc Gregor…). I know being so young and fresh champion all this sounds crazy, but really on his mind there is nothing but being the GOAT and he fights everyday to reach that goal

Usually, UFC fighters get hated because they keep saying they can smash anyone anytime, anywhere, no matter what (Khamzat, Conor, Jones, etc.). But Topuria is completely the opposite. One day he said Max is next, the next day he prefers a rematch with Volkanovski, and then the next week he prefers Ortega. And now he also mentioned Connor and Omalley, like wtf?? At this point, we can't even say "Ilia is dodging A/B/C" because he is dodging everyone. He is a very good fighter (and I do think he can beat those names), but this mentality is bad for his image as a champ. If you don't have a fixed fight yet, just say "bring me anyone" and move on to other topics/discussions.

Max should stay at 155. He’s got options now and he’s proven that he can put on the weight and still maintain the speed and he’s proven that he has knockout power. My humble opinion, the UFC should give him either Oliveira or Tsarukyan, since Arman turned down the title fight, and if Max wins, give him the shot at the title.

I hope you read this cause I was talking to you through screen that’s telling half the story as far as illia he said on Ariel’s show of course volk will get rematch how could he not and he said volk is such a good guy but he doesn’t want to fight him I till he has enough time to heal he wants what’s best for him and if knocks him out again so soon that will be the story line he came back to quick.
