100% agree I have kept guinea pigs for 10 years and the amount of guinea pigs you see being kept incorrectly is crazy. I have always kept male guinea pigs and they are definitely not as hard to keep as people make out in terms of friends. I currently have 3 male guinea pigs two are a pair who are both unrelated and were bonded as adults for those who say you can't do that. The one however does live alone but lives in a cage split because he was severely bullied as a baby by other male guinea pigs.we have tried many guinea pigs but he simply panics and goes for attack as soon as they approach him. He is six years old now and is more than happy being able to interact through the cage split. My guinea pigs do live outdoors however they live in a insulated shed with a heater for the winter and living in wales in the UK it rarely ever gets hot 😂. Anyway Keep up the good work. From Connor

It's pretty old now, but you could've castrated your bullied g-pig when it was younger and put him together with a very docile female. Male groups can be more stressfull, as males ususally don't live together, but our domesticated g-pigs have a much high tolerance, so having male groups often work. Wild g-pigs live in a harem with one male and several females, that's usually considered to be the most peaceful combination even for our domesticated g-pigs. The male is typically the dominant one and the females rank lower, so that could've worked for your bullied g-pig, maybe? I don't know if you tried that, since you just said you tried many g-pigs, but didn't mention a castration or females.

Cons,Piggie World I completely agree as well. I have seen so many Guinea pigs being cared for so wrongly and people think that you can just throw them in a box and feed them a carrot once a day and they'll live happily. Guinea pigs need people who have researched them and know exactly how to take care of them before they get them. I have piggies and one of mine also unfortunately lives in a separated cage because he is also really bad with other pig because he wasn't taken out of the adult cage as a baby and probably got bullied, I don't really know. But he is very happy and loves to interact with my other pets. I can't stand how mistreated animals are and when they don't get proper care. I love my animals to death and could never mistreat them or give them away because I don't feel like taking care of them anymore. Love your pets and always take care of them :)

I had two guinea pigs when I was 10. Every time I walked into the room they began to squeal loudly and would only quit when I picked them up. I knew they loved me. One began getting very fat. My little sister who was three, woke up early to play with the pigs, came running in the kitchen screaming, "Mama, it broke, it broke!." We didn't know the sexes of our pigs and of course the fat one lost a lot of weight overnight and we had three more little ones running around the cage!LOL!

As an introvert, I can confirm that no matter how anti-social you are, you can still be lonely. Just because you don’t gain energy from being around other people doesn’t mean that you don’t need social interaction. Guinea pigs are pretty much the same; they need friends to be happy and mentally healthy.

Thank you for this info. One of my daughters is going to be 13 in 2 days and has been begging for a piggy for years. She did her research and even put together a report for me to read on what she knows and why she'd be a good piggy mom! (I was impressed). I'm learning about them so that we can provide the best care for her babies together.

You can build a cage! My mom built one for my guinea pigs cuz it's cheaper and bigger than store bought cages

I don’t understand how people say “2 male guinea pigs can’t live together”. I have 3 male guinea pigs and they are not brothers, they are perfectly fine together, I check daily for bite marks or any injuries (I have never found one). As long as you provide a big cage they most likely won’t fight! I love this video btw, it’s so informational! 🐾💙

if you've ever watched the show alone (10 trained people try to survive in the wilderness as long as they can to win half a million dollars, the last one standing wins. they're all alone), you can see how the solitude takes a toll on their mental health. they're mostly alone for up to two months, you can only imagine what happens to guinea pigs being alone for most of their lives. social animals need companionship

I have 5 Guinea pigs. I had 1 boy and 1 girl and I put them together for 1 night just to see what would happen. It was such a stupid choice because my Guinea pig had 3 babies! Long story short don't make the same mistake I did!

I can't stress this enough, it's never a good idea to do thos, it could potentially kill the female. From what I know, the female's hip bones grow together at some point in their live which makes it almost impossible for them to give birth. I'm glad that your pigs are fine tho!

So i have a guinea pig and she have been living aloune. Now she is 2 years old and she is still okay! But im so sad i have been making her lounly! But few days ago a new neighbor moved in and she has two guinea pig! And now her guinea pigs have sleep over at my guinea pigs cage! The reason why i had a one guinea pig. I got a guinea pig and then realise they should be togethor. I told my mom and she said i couldn't have two guinea pigs! I was a monster back then! But i really wanted her to be happy so i gave my guinea pig to my neighbor so she will be happy! I still love my guinea pig and i miss her so much but as long as she is happy! ♡♡♡

I had two male guinea pigs that were brothers, but one died a couple of years ago do to a gastrointestinal issue. We knew the remaining brother would need a companion so we adopted another one from an animal shelter, and they get along relatively well, but the original one is a few years older than the other one, and will likely outlive him. Of course to keep him happy and healthy, we will try and get him another companion. Something that worries me a little is that as each guinea pig passes away and I get the remaining a new friend, I might be stuck in an infinite circles of receiving new pigs, which I can't keep doing forever.

Hey,got mine from Petco as well, they were very happy to give me one without even letting me know it's not good to only keep one.and, they adviced me to get the ball-so pissed about that. Now I have two and they keep running away and hiding all the time. I just don't know how to get them to trust me.

She's absolutely correct!Guinea pig interaction and human interaction is a must, we all socialize and no one can say otherwise.

I have one piggy. Fidget is very happy, well socialized and lives alone. Fidget doesn't spend all day alone. He went to the Tulip festival last weekend with me. The week before he went to Texas with me. Fidget is not in isolation. He had a friend before he came to live with me. He killed his friend.

Well you have to have two unless you spend loads of time with them. Maybe try showing her videos and websites and other things explaining they need a friend and if she still doesn't, just find a quiet time to explain to her why and maybe get some other people to back you up. Next time you go to the vet or a pet store with her maybe explain to staff and ask them to talk to your mom. Hope this helped! And good luck! ❤❤

I'm so glad my mom surprised me with 2 Guinea Pigs instead of 1. I wouldn't want to have a lonely Guinea Pig. These are my first pets and I want to make sure they live a long time. It never crossed my mind to buy them a wheel or ball but my mom was thinking of buying them a leveled cage. I'll be sure to tell her that they perception of height so she doesn't go through with the purchase. i can't relate to the boy thing or the fighting because I have two girls who, in the pet shop, were lying on top of each other to sleep. Well, boys are naturally going to assert their dominance and fight a little bit sometimes. That's not always the human's fault. It's their nature. It's when humans put them in cages too small or don't introduce them properly that it's their fault. But guinea pigs have different personalities. I have five guinea pigs and one of them just can not be caged with the others. He fights them too viciously. I didn't do anything wrong. He just doesn't get along with the others, but I keep his cage near theirs.

I was given two rescue piggy's at the end of summer. It's been a really big struggle figuring out care I've never owned a small animal before. I spent $300+ on a c&c cage and a bunch of bells and whistles only for the cage space to stress them out(they wouldn't leave their hidey at all their food would be untouched). I splurged some more to buy them a smaller cage from a pet store and they've become a lot more active since. They're warming up to me too and using the space and hopping around sometimes. I'm setting the big cage back up for Christmas with all the toys I bought them :) Potty training is going well and their first vet visit is this week for a check up and nail clipping. It makes me feel really good to see them getting more comfortable. This Video and an array of others have helped a ton with the learning curve. Thank you

I agree with all of this except for the one about Guinea Pigs fighting being the owners fault. Many people care for their piggies really well and they still fight. I tried to bond my two piggies together and at first they fought and it was a clash of character. I’ve managed to bond them now but it took many months of getting them in the run together every night before putting the other in. I think it’s unfair to make the assumption that two Guinea Pigs not getting along is the owners fault instead of just a clash of character between to Guinea Pigs. In no way is this meant to be a hate comment or anything - I love your videos and all your pets but I don’t want people to think that if their piggies fight it is their fault when it’s really not. Do we put the blame for their fight on their parents, wives, etc.? Of course not, it is nobody’s fault except those two grown men. I know we are talking about animals and not humans. Thats completely normal only if they get injured badly seperate them. The cage is probably too small but better 2 in a too small cage than 1 in an ok cage

We got 2 new piggies for my daughter at Easter! They are still very shy and timid with us sadly but are settling in!

I bought a guinne pig one and with a store cage so when i saw this video i paused it a 7:46 and texed me mom like gurl umm i need some new stuff lol thx for that

There will always be a more dominant one. I just reintroduced my girls and it was a little scary because they had to figure out who would be the "boss". Mine became aggressive towards each other when I got them a new cage. I kept them in two cages next to each other for a few weeks. I also let them meet during floor time. After all that I cleaned the cages and then combined them. They are very happy now together.

I lost a pig in February. We adopted a new buddy yesterday morning and I was worried and was about to separate them because they were chasing each other and rumbling. It’s been a day and a half and they are sleeping next to each other happily now. Usually introducing them u put them in an area neither has ever been and give them food to eat next to each other once u know they are comfortable they can go in the cage. But still watch them carefully the next few days. Idk if u even need this anymore but that’s how it worked for me😂

I recommend taking him to la guinea pig rescue if you live by LA they pair and match a buddy or friend with you’re guinea pig

Happy Tails Why are you so rude to people when they ask questions?? You say you’re a professional but you definitely are not. You think its ok to get animals from pet stores that buy from animal mills and you think that the setup for animals is the same for every single one... that is not true, animals have personality just like humans and if some guinea pigs want to be alone and only react with a human then that is ok. Also you say you’re an educator yet when people ask you questions about animals you just say they are abusing their animals and insult them about it. If you’re going to be a “professional educator” then you should probably do “research” yourself and get your facts straight. I really hope people unsubscribe from your channel because you’re an inconsiderate person.

Happy Tails I know you are trying to help but instead of saying stuff like that maybe you should explain what you are trying to inform them about instead of making them feel stupid about what they said

I’ve had guinea pigs since I was little and they’ve all lived outside all year round. We live in England so it does get cold. However, my dad has built a hutch for them to go in and out of when they please. Around out graded we’ve got loads of hiding places and shaded places. Our guinea pigs live until 7-8 usually so they’re very happy and healthy. We’ve never had to take them to the vet and they’re all very friendly (touch wood). I try and play with them at least once a day and they’re very spoilt. I currently have two and they’re little angels and they definitely recognise they’re Mummys voice. I love guinea pigs so much and they’re my little babies. ❤️❤️❤️

My Guinea pigs partner died and we tried getting a friend for it and she did NOT want this Guinea pig in our house.

I would love to give my guinea pig a friend,or companion, but my parents will not let me get another one.No matter how hard I try,they say: "Oh that pig is fine,just play with her more." It's tearing me apart learning that she needs another piggie to live with,and that I'm helpless to give her what she really needs.She's very social and loves everyone and everything although she's been alone most of her life,I just don't know what to do.

Olivia Hewes my mum was the same! we were originally considering getting two but there was only one left at the shop (don't attack me for adopt not shop there is nowhere within at least an hour of me that is an adoption center for guinea pigs) so we only got one guinea pig. I tried to get my mum to buy me another one but she wouldn't so she was all alone until she died

I am also facing the same situation. I had two guineapig and one of them died yesterday really suddenly.The other one is pretty lonely and it's getting really bored. I'm afraid that it might die out of loneliness. My parents aren't keen on getting for me another one and Im so unhappy. I hope I get another one. Wish you all the best for you and your guineapig . Omg I am having the same problem! My Guinea Pig Loki (my profile) is a lonely Guinea pig. He has only had other Guinea pigs when he was little, before we bought him in a pet store (I soon later realized that you shouldn’t buy pets from pet stores) ever since I’ve been doing research and I’ve sometimes been crying about how badly I care for my little Guinea piggy. I wish I could do something about it. Does anyone have advice? I’ve tried showing documents about this stuff and have tried to pay for some things even though I don’t have a lot of money. I’ve also tried many more things. If you have ideas please comment to me. Thank you! 🇬🇳 🐷

It’s illegal in some places to keep guinea pigs alone I use to have 4 guinea pigs but they all died but it has been a while and now I want two female guinea pigs so I’m doing some more research

I have two young male guinea pigs that get along well together, they aren't brothers and they get along great! Before I got them I asked the store I wanted to get them from if they could be put together to see if they got along before I bought them. I came back later and they were get along great and only then I got them because I knew my family only wanted two and it would hurt me a ton to have guinea pigs alone or have to return two pigs I had grown close too. While Guinea pigs need friends don't forget to hold them yourself often and hold them properly so they feel supported and safe. They love there friends and love you too.

I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and I sometimes go to after school care and they have an outside ramp for their Guinea pigs so thanks for notifying that to me so I can tell them it is not very safe

It's the same with rats, Unfortunately I had to seperate my males, due to one having a tumor operation and after that they fought and due to their age and them both having health issues, I was unable to socialise them safely....the other one was more interested in humans anyway but I felt so bad, because I had separated them even if it was unavoidable...My female I wanted tq socialise with one passed away due to a bleeding tumor, she was the only one left out of three sisters, two passing because of tumor within a month....It was a horrible stressful time. Someone very experienced might have been able to do it, but I sadly wasn't. Sadly , they had short time left anyways....Both were rescues, which had been thrown away into a garbage can....I hope at least they knew they were very much loved....They had a large comfortable warm home, a cosy bed and lots of melon and corn though. And cuddles, as long as they allowed me to... I still feel horrible to having them kept alone though. I did my best, but it still feels if wasn't at all good enough and they had been so much better with someone more experienced.... 😯 My sweet girls Flyxx, Hayzee and Sheera and my poor trash- boys Holmes and Watson....😔 😢

I brought a guinea pig about 3 years ago named Edward. a month or so later we brought him a friend patchy . They got along really well but a year later patchy died because his back teeth grew too long and he couldn't eat. A month gone we brought a little guinea pig for Edward to have another friend. He was called fudge. Edward always liked to be the leader and when patchy was alive patchy liked that. When fudge came he liked to be leader as well. They didn't get along well. One night Edward tipped over fudge and scratched his tummy neck and leg. Obviously fudge went to the vet. Me and my mum separated them. Today we both have them and the still live separate. Their cages are next to each other so they still have some companion but I think to have two guinea pig together you need to find the right pair Wow this was the longest comment I have ever wrote 😂❤️

Thora F No. I had a female pig that literally didn't like anyone(female or male) that would bully them constantly. She just didnt like anyone, I think you should start off with 2 and try to always supply them with a companion. But sometimes the piggy just dont like other piggies.

My guniea pig sadly had to have surgery, She was fine for 3 days then, My brother found her lying on her side, We took her to a vet, that day, She had to be put down, It happened yesterday, She was only 1, I miss her sm, Her name was montee (Love you montee My angel 💕👼)

I am really surprised to hear your comment about the vitamin C. I have a qualification in animal care and we were taught, as well as told by our local vet, that we should use water dissolving vitamin C, changing the water twice a day. We had no issues with Vitamin C and had been doing this for at least six years. Also, you mention the temperature, this is again interesting to me because in the UK almost all guinea pigs live outside all year round. I used to rescue guinea pigs and all of mine lived outside year-round (except my little old lady who came inside in the winter) We packed their bedding area with Hay and would cover the hutch, coming out in a morning of minus temperatures (Celsius) to find the piggies were still warm in their beds...

For my beding i have this special blanket that soaks up everything that they drop its absorbent

One more thing, no matter what the sales associate would tell me about the cage size, except for the fact that the cages do need to be short, not tall, I disagreed about the space, I could not find one roomy enough, so I went on offer up and found a very large dog kennel, which is a temporary home till I'm done with the blueprints for the permanent home. I've gotten some really great ideas from watching these piggy 101 videos from people who have a lot of experience with them and it shows in the love and care and roomy space provided for their piggies. regardless of what the animal is, I've always believed in a bigger setting for my pets. Well, thanks again so much I will be watching more of your videos.

Hi Happy Tails, as someone who has been watching you for a long time i am incredibly upset to see you respond to your followers in such a way. I am in no way saying having 1 guinea pigs is correct, however in certain circumstances it is necessary. I have been owning Guinea pigs for a long time and have and incredible amount of experience. I have one boar who is single due to the fact that he is a rescue guinea pig with a traumatic past. I have introduced him to 10 other guinea pigs and it hasn’t worked. Before you criticise my bonding technique I have given him to adoption centre who have tried to mix him with one of their single pigs with no success. We kept him next to our pair of board so they could interact with noises and scent. He isn’t depressed, in fact he is the most chirpy and interactive guinea pig I have ever met.

Happy Tails exactly. People are awful. If they don’t like your video, don’t watch it. It makes me sad that so many people just go out and buy a guinea pig and think they’ll be its companion. Because in 6 months you will ignore it and it will be in complete isolation. My classroom has 2 girls with a very large 2-level (safe) cage with a ramp. I change all bedding twice a week and we give them lots of fun treats and care for them well. Guinea pigs are A LOT of work and they are very messy. I wish more people could see what I do every time I clean the cage to see if they want to deal with it. I have no regrets (they are so fun!) but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t. Please, people!!! Do your research. Don’t just buy a pet because it’s cute and you just have to have one for yourself. Do your homework and make the commitment, because it’s a big one. These little ladies could possibly live another five years!

Jennifer Markey Hi, I just want to let you know I own other guinea pigs in pairs and groups. I have owned guinea pigs since 2008 and and they all have lived happy lives in incredibly large cages. One pair lives in a 10ft x 6ft run another group lives in 10ft x 8ft shed. So I would appreciate if you know how I keep by guinea pigs for commenting on how much I care about piggies.

Jennifer Markey I’d also like to let you know my single boar was abandoned in a box on the side of the road at the age of 3 months and the highly regarded rescue that gave him to me suggested not to put him with other guinea pigs however I have tried non the less. I have unsuccessfully tried to bond him with ten other guinea pigs.

Yeah, idiots tend to work at pet stores... adoption agencies are so much better. The petco in my area is full of retarded pretty girls and nerdy loner stoners who know nothing about any animal.

I was around 10 when I got a Guinea pig, I had a boy and a girl and they got along just fine from what I remember. I loved them sooo much but one of them got sick and passed a year after. I gave the other one up cuz I felt bad she was alone. I'm thinking of getting another one...or 2 so this has helped a lot. So I got two guinea pigs from my local pet store it's called Critter Hut in the family had to move away and they could keep the guinea pigs so I was only planning on getting one but then my dad told me that he called the store and said we have to get both of them because they've lived together their whole life and we don't want them to have separation anxiety so this really helped thank you I hope you see this

Thank you sooooo much for this video, I purchased my guinea pig from Pet smart and they told me that this particular piggy liked living alone and that interacting with it a lot will be fine. I've only had him a few days and he is showing signs of depression. Well, first thing tomorrow AM I am getting a buddy for him and will introduce slowly.

Petsmart is a joke. I used to work there when I was a teenager. They don't train their staff, and literally the only training we got was being told to read the pamphlets provided for the customers to learn about petcare. Also wasn't told I i needed 2, when we got our first little baby. But I googled everything and luckily have a friend who knows alot about them and we ran out and got a 2nd baby so he had a friend.

So I’m getting a guinea pig in a week and I’m doing some research and I’m glad I watched this!

I just got 2 male guinea pigs, so i’m here just making sure i know everything about them that are essential and stuff so THANK YOU.
