DANAU SENTARUM - Dayak Life, Culture & Adventure (West Kalimantan)
In today's episode I set out to explore Danau (lake) Sentarum, in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. To learn about the Life around the lake, the Dayak culture and to get another great adventure! 🔥
I start riding on my KTM 790 Adventure R from the Badau, close to the Malaysian border. I then arrive at the Menau Empran homestay in Lanjak, a fantastic little homestay close to the village and city.
I then book a boat tour with Mur Hani from Motoris Speed Danau Sentarum, and together with him, we set out to visit the small village Semangit, where they produce A LOT of local honey and some rice crackers i've never seen before.
We end the tour with a visit to the Dayak Iban tribe at Sungai Pelaik, where we get a look into the life out in the middle of the lake.

My parents/grandparents were born and raised in Borneo, my grandparents were some of the Chinese merchants who bought and sold stuffs into those rural villages. And I have to say the Dayak people are some of the best people ever, they didn’t treat us with racism and were always welcoming of us. Other ‘native’ Indonesian groups from bigger cities haven’t been that nice to our kind. Seriously, lots of love.

I was born in Pontianak, grown up there, but now live in Jakarta since 1996. I never been to Danau Sentarum until now although I have family around there. You’re very lucky Kris to be there. Wish you a great journey and always be safe till you explore all around Indonesia.
