The issue is if Merab keeps winning at #1 spot and denying title shots then no title fight can be made without jumping the #1 spot. No title fights mean less ppv’s and UFC isn’t going to skip ppv’s.

Dana is 100% right . Merab made it all the way to #1 contender just to not fight aljo and gatekeep. If u look at the rankings before sean got his fight with yan it makes sense why he skipped the rankings. Merab and aljo basically cleared out the top guys. Its also why Umar was getting a shot at sandhagen before his injury.

All champion fighers like Aljo who have made such a name for themselves were offered a rematch, if the UFC allow Suga Sean O'Malley to avoid rematching it just shows they might also be on that racism mentality like new jersey is. As for Merab, an honest good friend, hard to come by now a days and the fact some of u don't see that is absolutely insane. Your life must suck if you have no good intent friends around you like Merab. Gotta respect Merab for being such a loyal friend. But Dana is right. MMA is a fast career and your chance to be at the top doesn't come often. Merab vs Sean would make a great storyline: a friend wanting to avenge his friend's loss, like Junior Dos Santos did when he fought Frank Mir.

  • @troysdogtraining

Merab blew his chance. Its different from say a #1 contender like say Colby who is demanding a title shot for better or worse. imagine putting on a dominant performance and everyone wants to see you fight for the title despite you having zero personality and you say outright that you WONT fight the champ cause he's your buddy. as for Aljo, what kind of best friend lets his best buddy turn down a title shot.

Aljo must know if he was to beat Sean in a rematch then Merab would be kicked from the UFC, he's willing to take that risk, some "friend". @RCalicchio1st it's Dana's lol. Even the highest paid ufc fighter on the planet makes what a low level pro makes of literally every other sport lol but yet it's the most dangerous and brutal sport in the world. These pros are getting hundreds of millions of dollars for being top of their sport. How many times did dana say how many tickets they sold and it was the most sold at Boston besides the playoff basketball. But yet all of the fighters didn't even make what bench players make playing basketball lol. A backup NFL player makes the same as the best fighters in the world and they don't even play.
