I’ve seen this more times than I can count and I still cry with him. Such emotion, no director could possibly pull out of an actor. He is his own person with his own feelings and emotions and gives so much of himself in his work. We are all blessed to be witness and to receive this gift.

He literally is singing for life. Dan always manages to put the right emotions into every single rendition, making the audience believe it's happening to him at this very moment. Truly outstanding in every way.

There is nothing he can't do! Dan actually embodies the music and makes it his own while channeling the intent of every song he performs. The emotions he's feeling and showing are real. He becomes the character. Simply superb!

We knew you would love it and your reaction was spot on! I have seen this as a stage musical 3 times over the years and this is by far the best rendition I've ever heard. His portrayal, as you say, with his hand gestures and facial expressions, well all round acting prowess, know no bounds - he's an artist you not only have to listen to but watch too. If Andrew Lloyd Webber had ever persuaded him to do the stage version it would have been nigh on impossible to get a ticket that's for sure but I would have paid good money to see it. Outstanding!

Gethsemane is a historical event as well as a Garden in Judea. it takes place between the last supper and the trials leading to the crucifixion. Jesus asked God to take the cup from him and Tim Rice took some artistic license. This is the best cover of this I have seen, and I have seen dozens. Very nice review,

Isn't it sad how he found his followers sleeping instead of praying like he had asked. He knew he had to follow through with the plan to be the final sacrifice, but prayerful friends may have lessened the suffering or something.

If you haven't heard (or seen) Son Of Pain, please check it out. Dan's really crying in this song. The emotions are unbelievable.

A born performer!!

Well, you did it again. Another brilliant reaction.👍 There is never any doubt about the vocal performance we are going to witness, but this illustrates the talent of a superb actor as well. The reality is enhanced by the lack of the visible microphone that we’ve come to expect. I am in no doubt as well that Dan would be successful on Broadway, or on any stage. I guess the question is whether he would be willing and able to submit to the authority of a Director? Theatre is a collaborative process. Dan has always remained in complete control of his performance and career. I'm not even suggesting that he needs direction, only that it would be expected of him. 🤷‍♀️

I very much doubt he would either - he likes complete autonomy (there's reference to this on his site going back some years when he was talking to a record label but decided against it as he didn't like what they were proposing and quite frankly he seems to be doing just fine without one!)

BTW many people sung Jesus through the years, most notably Ian Gillan of Deep Purple in 1970 and Ben Foster in a Broadway show featuring Melanie C. of the Spice Girls some years ago. She has a really fantastic voice, too.

I'm right there with him. It's like he pulls you right in.

This song is so hard to do - I have seen great versions and not great versions. But this is the perfect blend of Dan’s skills- classical and theatre and metal. This is top 5 versions for me no doubt and the others are all super famous musical theatre stars that he holds his own against. Also you have to do Make a Man Out Of You from Mulan- it’s so much fun!

I'm not really even a big fan of Jesus Christ Superstar, but on a purely performance level was absolutely blown away by Dan's vocal & theatrical portrayal of this song. I'd put it up against the originals anytime.

He does it better than Jeff Fenholt - the original Jesus Christ Superstar. I've heard Jeff do it live several times over the years, and I love Jeff to pieces, but Dan Vasc has got him beat! His voice just has so much power!

I think one has to be a christian to know the backstory to the story of Gethsemane, and to really be captured by it. I'm not a christian, and I've only ever watched the The Jesus Christ Superstar musical once in my entire life, back when it was released, and it didn't move me then, and never cared to watch it since. But actually, I'd definitely watch it, all the way through, if Dan was playing the lead role. He does this so convincingly, both vocally and physically acting out the role. Like you say, he does this as if he's actually on a broadway stage, and not in his own garage.
