    I managed Forrest for a few years, got the call for him to be on TUF, did his sponsors, etc. When he fought Dan, Forrest weighed around 218 and Dan was over 260 (and wasn't supposed to wear shoes, haha). Forrest talked to Dan the entire fight saying things like "You look a lot thinner on TV" and "When are you going to shave that mustache?" True stories.

    +Frank Bishop How did Griffin take the loss to a waaaay older Severn?

  • @FrankBishop

    @FrankBishop

    8 жыл бұрын

    +RumbleFish252 You gotta remember....Forrest had only been even training for a little over a year, and had fought 6 amateur fights against mainly guys that had no clue what they were doing. Severn weighed in at around 260lbs and Forrest was around 218. Severn wore shoes when they'd agreed no shoes. Severn was older yes, but the guy had competed around the world in many types of wrestling, grappling, mma, nhb, etc. Forrest had zero wrestling and especially against someone of that class. If you've never rolled with someone on that level (or even less), they can make themselves feel like a car on top of you. And Dan was great at that. Forrest didn't care that he lost. We hung out with Dan, Phyllis Lee, etc for a while after the fights. Dan was just getting paid to be the big name on that card.

  • @RumbleFish252

    @RumbleFish252

    Frank Bishop Yeah I've rolled with older higher ranks before. Including one who's guard I couldn't pass at all, and kept tapping me with neck cranks. I just asked that, because I have a really faint memory of him sounding angry about it, in an interview I watched years ago.

  • @FrankBishop

    @FrankBishop

    +RumbleFish252 The amazing thing is that as big, strong and experienced as Dan was, and as little training as Forrest had....he couldn't pass Forrest's guard :) Also check out Forrest vs Jeff Monson. I think it's just the over time round, but for the first 3 rounds, Jeff couldn't pass either and in OT, Forrest got top and passed Jeff's and even mounted I think. I was there for all those fights and WITH Forrest, lol. I got to hear all the cool stuff. He fought Travis Fulton. Fulton warmed up by stretching for about 30 seconds, Forrest said. Forrest dominated him, but Fulton had over 100 fights by then. So many stories man. I've seen some crazy stuff! haha

    I trained with Dan back in 2007 in Detroit - LEO ground fighting training run by Dan and his company DangerZone. At one point he says, "OK, put me in your guard". He kneels down and I (having prob 2-3 yrs of BJJ at this point) go to wrap him up with my legs and consider trying to break his posture. WRONG. LOL. He was the most SOLID man I ever rolled with EVER. Every part of him was solid muscle. He may not have looked like a Ken Shamrock or a Mark Coleman (physically impressive muscles), but let me tell you, he was a BEAST. SUPER nice guy BTW. Cheers,

    Dan Severn is an example of what the wrong look can mean to a fighter. He is a total bad ass. He was Brock Lesnar before Lesnar was a tinkle on his dad trouser. Hell he was even known as The Beast. He became a UFC champion by saying he was a pro wrestler!. Yet if you ask most people, they will not mention him when talking about the best fighter ever. Why? Because he looked like a HS wrestling overweight Freddie Mercury and not like an angry viking.

    So basically what he's saying is that he fought in underground fights that were very likely mob-related then got offered a bloodsport style fight to the death Mexican style because he didn't want to get murdered. And the title of the video is "Fighting Forrest Griffin". Nice marketing, guys.

    What dirty scumbags Dan Severn and Forrest Griffin are. This fight was a work. A fixed fight. This is one of many for Dan including his fights against Seth Petruzelli and Shannon Rich. Forrest would go on to win the UFC LHW title, for a reason other than deserving. Petruzelli would be the man to quickly KO Kimbo Slice on CBS's Elite XC on their final show, throwing one jab that floored Kimbo. These people are not your friends. All you have to do is watch the fights once thinking it is a normal fight and secondly looking at them as if they were staged. You should not need the second fight to see the disgusting display. The crowds clearly understood as would anyone watching a replay. This continues today on the "Big Shows."
