How? in his main argument to support Ashworth (in regards to his newcastle comments) he refused to accept that Eddie was literally doing the same thing before Ashworth was. Then he tried to make a point that you can't credit Eddie for his signing pre Ashworth? Who else decided to buy them then? Nobody is saying Eddie did ALL the hard work, but it was very clear that every player Eddie took an interest in had to fit a certain profile, he had a vision, and the majority of his signings have been outstanding for us as a result.

NUFC currently use a set up that there is a board which includes Howe and Ashworth, who deal with transfers and ultimately our Chairman or a PIF representative of him signs it off. And even before Ashworth we have been setting up all the internal mechanisms that a club has that Ashley left us bare bones with. We just do not know what Dan Ashworth has actually done. Our best signings, Trippier and Bruno were done before him.

Manchester United are not signing Dan Ashworth to identify new signings. Newcastle didn’t sign him for that reason either. Hes a sporting director and hes got a track record thats as good as anyone. This isnt the end of the world for Newcastle but there arent many people in the world they could bring in that would be considered an upgrade on Dan Ashworth.

Ashworth's name was made at WBA, not England. He was working in the youth academy before the owner created a role for him to step into that is now known as the DOF. This included a big emphasis on the scouting department. Under him we got Odemwingie, Yacob, Dorrans, Mulumbu, Olsson, Macauley and many more. Ashworth oversaw our best PL finishes before leaving for England in 2012. It was arguably the end of the progress we made to that point and most west brom fans would say him leaving was bigger than any player or manager. He is smart, driven, grounded and has a point to prove with a big job at United. A savvy signing.

As a Newcastle fan I couldn’t really care less about him leaving. I have no doubt he quality at his job but he hasn’t been here long enough to really make an impact on us. Our club has already been given the blueprint from him anyways so it’s not that bad. The misconception of him signing all of our best players is laughable also. He’s maybe responsible for Gordon & Livramento who are the good signings. The summer window just gone was HUGE for us but we didn’t plan well & look how it’s hindered our season.. so if he’s so good, what’s the reason for a poor window? I think Ashworth will do well for the reds but our owners have shown ambition & improved us hugely over the 2.4years & will find another candidate with similar credentials. Just find Manchester Red fans’ behaviour towards us strange 😂

Credit to him, Dan Ashworth has somehow build up this mystical reputation as being a genius talent identifier, which is just not true. At Brighton he had close to nothing to do with the transfers listed by Josh, it's mostly down to Tony Bloom's data analytical software Starlizard that finds and breaks down these talents, then head of recruitment/scouting Paul Winstanley and Sam Jewell. Then again at Newcastle, he had so little to do with any of the top signings.
