Howe is tactically very, very good when we have our better players available. He also coaches average players to play above their levels. The issues comes when we have 10-15 player unavailable for months on end, resulting in us having zero bench, combined with the slowest back 4 and midfield in the league. Give Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti etc. the same players we've been playing for months and they wouldn't have us challenging top 4 either. Howe is absolutely the man to take us forward IMO. He's proven he can outclass the bigger teams when we aren't decimated.

Agreed, think in hindsight he was hamstrung managing under Ashley where the remit was 17th place. After we got Europa we really struggled with only bringing in Anita. Howe has been in a similar situation where only really Livramento and Hall who were both signed for future have been available the only ones able to play for most of season.

I think most Newcastle fans are level headed enough to realise that this season is a total right off, and that eddie Howe is the man to take the club forward. You'll always get the emotional fans who like to find a bandwagon to jump onto, but most of my mates who are fans know that we are a work in progress, and we've been hampered by the worst/strangest injury list I've ever known a club to have. Souness is still not getting us as a fan base. We arent expecting Europe every season, and we arent expecting to win every game, but we do expect to have players, and a manager, that will do everything in their power to try and win.

I have to say. I think Pardew is harshly judged by Newcastle fans. He wasnt backed with the funds given to Mcclaren after him and the stagnation of the squad kicked in. I think it was the right time for him to leave but both Souness and Pards are right when they say that fans turn quickly and then it’s done. Pardew knows that all to well. And he was always up against it from day 1. He wasn’t helped by the fact Cabella flopped when replacing Cabaye. My worry is that already you can see Newcastle fans questioning Howe’s credentials based on the last 4 games (none of which we’ve lost BTW). Based on the squad he’s had fit (and I mean properly fit) and available. We’re probably where we should be in the league. I’d hate to see fans go toxic on him because of it. He’s earned the right to stick it out and is still on course for 2nd best season since Pardews 5th place.

The way Graeme speaks about Newcastle, he acts like the fans are entitled beyond belief. This rhetoric of the fact Newcastle hasn't won anything since god knows when is really frustrating. It implies that clubs like Blackburn, or Leicester are bigger clubs and that their fans can expect more because they've won a trophy more recently - it a half arsed argument. Newcastle, at several points in the last 30 years, have had all the right ingredients for success on the pitch. However, the big thing we have lacked is good leadership off the pitch. It's true that a portion of fans have unreasonable expectations, but the idea that Newcastle has a higher percentage of these fans is rubbish. I'm delighted with the direction of the club right now under Eddy Howe. It finally feels like we have people in the club who see the potential and recognise the actual strengths and weaknesses, and who believe that we are indeed a big club - which of course we are.

I used to think Eddie's tactical nous was suspect as we were losing games we should have won, letting in last min goals, not defending well, not being able to counter opposition tactics esp on Burn's flank. But with the Dan Ashworth development, it feels like Dan has been in talks with his mate Brailsford for a while now and probably has been screwing us from the inside as he knew for a while now he wants to help Man U. Could the Tonali issue have been an inside job by Dan to screw us? Could the wiping out of all our FFP credit been done to handicap us now? Why didn't he buy any cheap gems like he did at Brighton? Dan's record at NUFC has been poor, and now we know why,

It would take at least 5 straight years of top 4 finishes and CL money to build a squad capable of winning the league. This season has proven that is nigh on impossible in itself.
