Damper Dyno Graphs Explained - Suspension Secrets

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We took a trip down to Nitron Racing Systems to take a look at their new Electro-magnetic actuator damper dyno. We put a shock through its paces and took a look at the different graphs produced by the damper dyno and what all of the graphs mean and how they can be interpreted.
For more detail and depth check out our article covering damper dyno graphs:
suspensionsecrets.co.uk/dampe...
We look in detail at the Force vs Velocity graphs and the Force vs Displacement graphs showing how the damping adjustments for low speed compression, high speed compression and rebound are displayed on the graph and what it means.
We also cover how the dyno can be used for calibration and health checking and how the new dyno technology allows data logging to be used to simulate an entire race on the dyno to see how the damper performs and spot any issues with the coilover that can be fixed ahead of the race. 77
We also get your questions answered on topics such as digressive shocks and what the best diameter of piston is and what damper oil is best to use inside the damper.
Let us know if you have any more questions that you would like answering in the comments below.

Awesome video. Thanks for featuring my IG questions, it has really helped clear some things up, especially around digressive damping. I'm going to go give the written article a read now 👍

Excellent video and associated document. It's going to help me describe damper tuning and the effects of any adjustments to my customers during their driver training. I like the description/explanation about digressive, linear and regressive too and the relationship to the driven/non-driven wheels. That leads me to the question of what the relationship is exactly between the two types when under acceleration, steady state and deceleration.

Great video and good information! My question maybe for another topic but how do you read a graph (Force vs. Velocity), different curves (digressive, linear, etc), and its effects on the suspension (how it drives? what does driver feel?)... maybe even picking a suspension type (McPherson or Double A-Arm) as an example and how different F v. V graphs would affect the car's behavior.

Re: the circular graph starting at 6:42 - what would a smooth, outward bulge, throughout the entire compression acceleration, quadrant indicate (-1600N)? Also, if Nitron favour linear damping on driven wheels and digressive on non-driven, what do they do with AWD?

Why does a damper with out a remote reservoir take twice as much gas charge as a damper with a remote reservoir
