At this time in my life, this song has never hurt me more than it does now... I still remember when I discovered Damien's music. I was 16, and staying at a relative's house, people i hardly knew.. but over the first summer i grew very fond of the people, the environment, and the house. It was quite lonely despite the family i had all around. Anyway, winter had come, and it was mid November. I was sitting in my room with a hot cup of hazelnut flavoured coffee, i came across his My Favourite Faded Fantasy and... Man was i mesmerized. So i was sat there listening and i just felt everything at once through each track. Love, loss, despair, hope. It was magical. Then over time i found O and 9. Those two years i spent at that house, that room, on the grass, the roads, the weather rough and clear, lonely, but safe, I listened to his songs. Then i left from there. I thought I'd be okay.. Now another 2 years passed, choices made, opportunities missed. Still trying to find a way.... Ps. Sorry for the long moaping story. Just want to share how dear i hold Damien's music. So thank you Damien Rice.

I believe Damien Rice is the most legitimate musician that I have ever followed. He sings about stuff that sticks to a Life. His subjects are nostalgic and he makes you think about what he is singing, and I often wonder why he chose to sing it. I used to introduce him to my children, I’m black mind you, but they would just crack up and say “My Mom” and her songs. But they loved him.😂😂😂😂 Just give me time,,,,,On my mind. Oooooh. Ooooh🥰

Hello to Sandeegirl, I know what you mean about Damien and kids- I played this song at my therapist's and though "folk" music- Damien transcends genres, and my therapist liked it- a truism isn't it, time...Personally I believe Damien follows his heart but has been influenced by MY FAVORITE SINGER, POET, MUSICIAN, NOVELIST, LEONARD COHEN- I can't fathom the continuing production of RAP music! It is so monotonous and often violent and disrespectful to women- I am white and I think I understand the genesis of the "stuff" Damien writes of wine women and song to use a cliche, like Leonard, the trivial made into a masterpiece! I am no writer, sat at my kitchen table, trying in vain, to compose a short poem for Leonard and his fans, we are still grieving his passing- and a line of Damien's popped into my head: read me your favorite line- hardly profound! And because of covid booster number 3 I am in a brain fog worse than usual- I gave up after 45 min- I am no poet! But I love poetry and for me Damien keeps alive the great tradition of "folk" music, like The Blues, as a black woman you should be proud your people took intolerable living conditions, colonialism and slavery and made music. Music is truly the universal language- if two people can't speak because they are of different nationalities just put some music on and they can "groove" and relate- don't you find that? Even with Rap! Though it's hard for me I admit- I don't have kids but I am of an age that prompts giggles! but I don't care- Leonard Cohen wasn't a great singer but his words were from the heart, like Damien's- I first encountered Damien on a JAZZ station, when he was still with Lisa Hannigan, so tell that to your kids! Broaden there musical boundaries! Happy New Year, 2022, let's hope it's better than the past 2 have been- covid is very bad, still, where I live in Canada- BE well, I hope 2022 is a healthy, happy, spiritually fulfilling one for you and yours and that you have enough money to keep up with inflation- my hubby and I are not well off and I tend to sit in the house and cry and listen to...well, Damien for one. He is SO GOOD LOOKING and sexy esp when he let's his hair grow long and those blue eyes- I adore The Blower's Daughter, that video enthralls me! Let's hope for a new album this year! Hugs, Namaste from Canada. Email me if your kids get on your case! I wasn't able to have any and adoption wasn't a viable option when I had a decent job - so I envy you- I was never sure though about "how to handle teenagers" !!!

@@MSYNGWIE12 I am listening to Eskimo which is my first favorite of his. I heard it first on a ski video I have called (Higher Ground) where skiers were getting dropped off on top of the world to get dropped off in some cases by helicopters to descend to the bottom of a snowy ruthless mountain in frozen bliss. I loved most the operatic ending and that beautiful voice that transcended me somewhere ethereal. My second favorite is (Older Chests)…I could go on and and on. Rap music where they are disrespecting women and cussing is not acceptable to me, but they can’t all be written off as being monotonous. Nas for example is a rapper I just recently started following because he has a message that he sings with intelligence. There are others too. Thank you for your thoughts. I raised four children. 3 Boys and the youngest is a woman, because she is 31 now. My husband died while my youngest was only 17 on 2007. It’s not easy raising kids, teens, ….But I believe in a higher power, and he brought me through my own and my children’s trials even after my husband died. Thanks for your thoughts. 😊

He does, but he said that he's not really interested. In an interview, he said that his music lives and behaves on its own, so he has no responsibility of the relationship those songs build up with someone. Not that he's a bad person, he does appreciate his fans, just in other ways. He likes to talk, meet and know them, rather than taking pictures for example.

Older chests reveal themselves Like a crack in a wall Starting small, and grow in time And we always seem to need the help Of someone else To mend that shelf Too many books Read me your favorite line Papa went to other lands And he found someone who understands The ticking, and the western man's need to cry He came back the other day, you know Some things in life may change And some things They stay the same Like time, there's always time On my mind So pass me by, I'll be fine Just give me time Older gents sit on the fence With their cap in hand Looking grand They watch their city change Children scream, or so it seems, Louder than before Out of doors, and into stores with bigger names Mama tried to wash their faces But these kids they lost their graces And daddy lost at the races too many times She broke down the other day, yeah you know Some things in life may change But some things they stay the same Like time, there's always time On my mind So pass me by, I'll be fine Just give me time Time, there's always time On my mind Pass me by, I'll be fine Just give me time

Been a fan of Damien’s solo work from the beginning and I love how after 15 years, a simple re recording of an older song with added inflections from all the years and hundreds of times playing this adds a new way of hearing the story. It is one of my dreams as well to just sit with him and talk. About anything. I feel like he would be one of those people that just blurt out truths about life, thus changing your life forever. Or he might be awkward. He looks like a guy that might feel randomly awkward for no reason. Haha, I'm high, Anyway, he is incredible. I randomly heard "The Blower's Daughter" on a dancing show when I was 12-14. It stuck with me, and when I was old enough I looked it up, found it, got emotional and then delved deeper. I have found that Damien can express parts of me, especially when it comes to love, that I had not even noticed beforehand. His music, the rawness of it, the lyrics, his voice... There is truly quite no other that can replicate that; it sounds like an echo, fragile, yet powerful. I always have a soft spot for the album I listen to first from each artist, and "O" is no exception. Each track is wonderful, and all together are a masterpiece. Anyway, I got carried away. I am just grateful for his existence, and that I got a chance to witness and appreciate his art.

It was some sort of nostalgia or something. Then yesterday was a wonderful day for no particular reason, i just felt so good since i woke up, and i'm sure it has something to do with your music. It cleansed me in a way, 'cause lately i've been feeling really low. Surprisingly, at work yesterday i heard everyone was feeling bad and that the environment was dark. I didn't even notice. It reminded me of my family, our heritage. My father always on the road, or on the run for his roots, his demons of the war, long before he got us, but still on the run for his wife and children. My thought that there was still time to heal all the wounds ... untill it was too late. Beautiful sober and pure translation of older chests!! "Read me your favourite line". I shiver. It was between him and me because I was the only one who liked to play words, our favorite lines and music, with him. He died far too young. I sometimes look into a strarry night and say; I'll be fine....I quess. But that's way back then. Thanks for this wonderful honest interpretation of this song. Thanks for who you are.

My mother 971/2 is literally dying and I played her songs, Belafonte, Love is a Gentle Thing but as I haven't seen her for months I needed MY sad songs and Damien is a devotee of MY MAN, LEONARD COHEN so here I am, bewildered...

Awww this takes me right back to when i saw Damien Rice in London a few years back at the Palladium, such a magical night. Welcome back my friend, your music heals my pain and soothes my soul in ways you would never understand. Love always xoxoxx

This is what I needed. Perfection. Nothing sounds better than the genuineness, the soulfulness-the inflection of emotion that is poured into the song. Stirs my soul and makes me grateful that music is alive in the world!

I've known of Damien Rice for a few years and I had his music on my playlist, but I never really gave it a proper listen besides a few songs. Recently on a rainy day it felt particularly right. I listened to his whole album and it was amazing. I felt all the feels and it was beautiful and melancholic, made me feel full but empty at the same time. I have now motivation to learn guitar. Thank you, Damien. Cheers from Canada.

This is so simple so pure so true that's why I love his voice his guitar playing his lyrics and everything, just a honest true musician. And this version make it not possible to beat it in terms of intimacy. There is not many poets/musicians like this in this world nowadays, atleast I dont know any. Anybody knows any poets that would be close to damien songs lyrics? it could be just a poet and not a musician. I would be glad to read something true and simple and honest in an environment of a real story.
