The process of manufacturing a blade welded from steel pot scrubberl and powder iron. Approximately 1.5% of carbon. Hardness after quenching - 62 units according to Rockwell. My article on the topic: sites.google.com/site/zapiski...
On my patreon page, I began to explain the processes and secrets of my work. Topics already covered:
1. Why do I add pepper to container Damascus steel.
2. What do I sprinkle? Flux and its composition.
3. How do I remove the container from the workpiece (container Damascus steel).
4. Why am I drilling a hole in a container.
5. Why do I sweep away the dross from the anvil with my hand.
6. Why do I first forge some blanks on a tree.
7. In what and why do I soak the blank before forging.
8. In which granules do I place the workpiece after forging.
9. What kind of white powder do I pour into the container.

I love these kind of videos where the creator doesn't say anything and just goes for it. Unlike other creators where they stick their face in at any moment where they can and almost scream at you to like and subscribe. This is the kind of content that I really enjoy.
Dmitry, you never cease to amaze me, you take knife making to another level, thanks a million.
It looks like this Craftsman can make Damascus steel knife out of any scrap steel. More - those will be not just good looking, but actually perfectly functioning knives. Simply amazing skills… Thank you for sharing.

How did I miss this one? Love the use of flour to add carbon to the powdered iron and make it into steel but I have to say my favorite part was the completed dish at the end.
@Dr_Monitor

That’s what I’ve been wondering, if all the “seasonings” he adds to each forging adds carbon, or if it’s just him being extra. If it actually adds carbon, I might have to do something like this when I start forging.
@JETWTF
Жыл бұрын
@@Dr_Monitor He does it to add carbon as well as a fun meme for his video's. If you start forging with good steel then you won't need to add carbon.. If you don't have allot of money then good steel is found in auto wrecking yards. Leaf springs for flat bar and shock springs for round. Hell most suspension parts are good steel for forging knives. Question we should be asking is Shurap OK considering the war in Ukraine and Sumy was a Russian target. He has been silent since the first week of the war and it's 82 days in.

I believe the word for sharp in Ukrainian is the same as spicy(hot), so to make sure the knife is harp they add a pinch of spice to the metal.

technology is amazing.. the amount of work it takes to extract ore, machine it into scrubbers and ship it to destination is extraordinary yet the modern supply chain and factory line mean the cost to produce in mass quantity is extremely low once overhead is covered (machines and supplies etc). just watching him and the time and effort it takes to make a knife puts it in perspective.

I often plate cobalt on steel and copper, and the appearance is a dark grey with a little shine. Almost the same as the "etched" appearance. It gives corrosion resistance to the plated area. But I knew Dmitry wasn't doing that because the cobalt plating solution has a very recognizable purple color.

I find about 300 Bobby pins in my vacuum once a month. I'm kinda wondering what that would look like as a blade.
I like how at the end he specifies that hes from planet earth XD
Excellent job! Have often wondered what type of patter would emerge if one were to use this process including a mix of small stainless ball at perhaps 20%-25% and 1% varillium and say 5-8 % nickle ... would seem to have a somewhat spotted splashed look after folding and drawing out into a blade. After etching one would think it may have couple of darker shades twined in withering the bright splashes.
Tu es un véritable artiste bravo à toi c'est magnifique
