Damask steel from Bowden cables of motorcycles
Blades are made by the method of forge welding in a container of motorcycle clutch cables. Using pure iron powder and black pepper - for sharpness. At the cutting edge steel is 10, zone hardening is 59-60 units.

The pattern is one of the most interesting I've seen. It would make a fantastic combo with a handle made from the trunk of a 'Punga' tree/palm, though you may struggle to find such wood in your part of the globe...... unfortunately it seems to be a native only from my home country New Zealand........ but it was worth a mention, as the two patterns are so alike eh.
Love this man, looks great! Also appreciate the way you moved the pattern along the edge steel, true talent
I'm gonna just say I love you. Its a thing of beauty to witness man and nature coming together in the shed.
Cheers from Seattle US. Great work.

@GiraffeFlavoredCondoms
I know this is an old question, but unless the damascus is being made with already high quality steels (which a lot of Shurap's aren't since he's making them out of like, wires and screw and whatnot) the edge is a separate piece of metal. You can see in this video that's also the case

@shurap
@user-ff6qj5gr4y
@user-gu3qr6yr7b

Tls papa this is pattern welded steel, or "modern" damascus if you will. The methods of makingtraditional damascus, or Wootz crucible steel, was lost to time.
@tpl145
damascus=/=wootz steel (as you've said damascus is welded steel and wootz is crucible steel). also making wootz (or bulat, pulad etc.) isn't "secret lost in time", youtube has plenty of videos of making crucible steel (mostly forging "ulfberht" type of swords, which were made of crucible steel), you can check for yourself.
Come on, man...pattern welded steel. No one makes Damascus any more, no one knows how..
