Cliff managed to do Wendell when he sold Weststar Barnes Wentworth. This included a gas field but what Wendell didn't know it required an easement across land owned by JR that connected his gas line to the mains. That is how JR got back his Ewing Oil assets. He said you don't want everyone laughing at you when you come crawling to ole JR looking for right of way.
