I seen miss Ellie leave Jock speechless a few times . Miss Ellie was soft spoken but when she got mad, JR or Jock couldn’t do nothing with her.

N Bobby is inquiring "When did u make this decision? n this is something we shld sit dwn n discuss......ummm that ship sailed when Jr mortgaged their home w/o discussing it.....Jock sitting dwn n discussing it is a courtesy vs obligation.....Her father made his wishes very clear n she was put in a position 2 betray that request....of course it weigh on her mentally.

Jock Ewing (Jim Davis RIP) was everyone's father and grandfather. He is truly missed.

When he died and that portrait of him was used regularly in the show he became a god like character.

One thing I tell those Ewing boys did respect their daddy!

Jock was a fabulous character and Jim Davis was perfect in that role. As good as the show managed to be without him, I sure wish he'd been around longer.

Show was never the same after his death...I often wonder, how the storyline might have played out had he been around...I do not believe Jr & Sue-Ellen wld have divorced n I damn sure don't believe they wld have ever lost Ewing Oil.

Yes, but keep in mind that it was JR's fault. He did a very bad business deal, put Southfork in Jeopardy and got "Daddy" very angry. After Jock "dissed" him in front of Vaughn Leland, he was so humiliated. Until the day Jock died, JR acted like a "Scared Needy Little Boy" who never had Daddy's love unconditionally. On Soaps that's seen alot. On Guiding Light Roger Thorpe played by Michael Zaslow had that with his Father Adam Thorpe. Co-Incidentally Larry made his Bones on it's Sister Show The Edge Of Night.

These episodes leading to JR getting shot are TV’s finest ever and this story about how JR risked everything for the Asian oil wells and how it all ended up becoming a cash cow temporarily and then screwing over the cartel before the nationalization just stands alone as great storytelling.

The writing was great but what made it classic TV at it all-time best was the right actors in the right roles...The orig cast had a truly amazing Chemistry...Jim Davis was born 2 play Jock, Bel Geddes was amazing as the refined matriarch that spoke softly but carried a big stick, but the greatest casting...Hagman as the devil himself...Jr. Ewing...."Your overstepping ur place Miss.Ellie....My place?, what is my place?, It isn't running this ranch, It isn't RUNNING EWING BUSINESS, it isn't deciding what we keep n what we give away."

You also noticed that JR drank as a "Coping Mechanism". Also Bobby & JR should know that while they "Ran" Ewing Oil, it was first and foremost "Jock's". He started it from scratch, he had his setbacks when he was wildcatting and partnering with Digger Barnes, also he knew never to take heavy financial chances when certain assets would be in Jeopardy.

I totally Enjoyed it When Jock Finally told off J.R. used to watch this every week never missed it forgot lots of it guess doing other things easy to forget

The Asian wells came thru and JR came thru for Ewing Oil. I hated JR for mortgaging Southfork, Miss Ellie's family home. Jock saved Southfork when the Southworths were struggling and about to lose the home and years later, JR could have lost it, disgracing his family.

Dallas was the best of all times!! Jock was a bad ass. Love the fights with with Bobby Jr. Loved the fights when Jock Ray and Bobby took on a bar.

My favorite part of that fight is when they beat up the men and on the way out Jock said 300.00 aught to cover it buddy, and handed the bartender 300.00 after they destroyed the place. Then when they got outside Jock said “the best fight I have had and I loved it boy”. RIP to the character Jock Ewing and the actor Jim Davis. Who was a real man. 🙂 oh and Bobby is not a Jr. JR is the jr. And you left JR out your comment about the fight. He was scared to get up and get roughed up but don’t forget the last part of the fight he knocked that man in the head with a beer glass when the man got punched and fell by JR and JR smacked him with that glass. I guess he did his part.😂🤣

Larry Hagman delivered those scenes with the greatness of his acting skills. Only he could play JR

I had no Fred Rogers was moonlighting as a bartender named George back then.

"I want cash and I want it fast"!.

Jock spoke sternly and JR s*** his pants. I believe Jock was the only one JR was really afraid of. "Sit down and shut up, JR". Yep, Jock had JR's number. lol

I also just realized that at least JR had a place to sit. In Fargo Jerry Lundegaard didn't.

Was this the Office that Jock occupied back in the day? Remember in the First Episode when it was a Five Part Miniseries and JR Said "You Put Me In Your Chair Daddy".

Jock needs cash and he knows how to do it.

He said he considers himself an only child. I guess Gary never ever counted.

I think the backstory was the bank was going to foreclose on Southfork when and Jock/ Ewing Oil paid it off. So back then Ewing oil owned Southfork but years later in Jock's will he left it to Miss Ellie as the sole owner.

@@SnowDaulphin Bobby was "Smarter" he knew never to "question" what Daddy decided in front of Business Associates. Only after did he try to be the voice of reason. Also when Vaughn Leland confronted JR about the Asian Deals that made him go Bankrupt, he turned to Bobby for help and Bobby said "You Know Where I Stand". Even when Bobby knew what JR was wrong and bad and evil, he'd never go against JR especially in front of a Business Associate and certainly not Daddy.

JR has a touch of sociopathic tendencies. People like that don't give a damn about anyone else compared to how they feel about themselves.

He felt like a failure. From the moment he was a Little Boy, he never felt his father could love him unless he brought in big deals. Jock admitted that he made JR the way he was by teaching him that he had to win no matter what the cost. Kind of like how Joe Kennedy was with his Sons.
