He’s got a lot of wonderful memories, and some not so great memories, like we all do!!!! I’m just very happy to see him happy, with a beautiful family!!!! We all know life goes on after loss, but it’s up to us to either wallow in it, or live the best life we could because of those who have gone before and keep the memories alive for our future generations!!!!! Dale Jr. is certainly living his best life, and I know his Daddy is proud of his accomplishments and his beautiful family!!!! We all want to keep the light burning for our departed loved ones!!!!! I consider it a privilege to try and keep those memories alive!!!!! Dale, you keep doing you!!!!

To see him light up like a kid on Christmas morning when he was able to confirm the rivet hole placement makes me beyond happy for him, too. And the buying back of objects his dad had puts a knot in my stomach. Reminds me of Julian Lennon, having to buy his dad John Lennon's items because the stepmother let the second son have his pick and sold what was left. I don't want to run down Dale Sr's 3rd/last wife, or say her name, but man what a piece of work she was, and continues to be. She needs to watch out, karma can be just around the corner.

The beauty of watching a video like this is he’s so genuine. There’s no way to fake that kind of enthusiasm and excitement that was evident in the video. Also shows how influential his dad was on his life. I know his life was difficult and his dad was absentee a lot when he was really young but you can tell that the years leading up to Dale Senior‘s death he and Junior became very close. And I know these are the lasting memories.

Of all the videos I've watched of Dale's, this one is my favorite! To see him this exited and to track down pieces of his father's legacy is just awesome. Congratulations Jr.

This car means nothing to me, but hearing the excitement in his voice and the story behind it, brings a tear to my eye.

Grew up a Gordon fan, but the last 10 years or so I have really grown to like Jr. Hes a real humble down to earth country boy and that's something nascar really lacks lately

best part is at the end he says he wants to take it to the track and show it off and let people look at it and enjoy it. that right there is what its about not putting something in a museum or the back corner of a storage barn

Great story. I’m pretty sure Dale Junior’s voice goes up an octave when he talks about it. I would be excited too.

@James Williams I remember the Sunday that Ricky and the other members of HMS were killed in that plane crash. I was at the hospital visiting my newborn nephew, who was born on October 22. He and my sister were going home. I happened to see the news on the TV in the hospital room. Just sad.

That’s friggin beautiful. Could you imagine the mental torment of never REALLY knowing for sure? Taking it around, showing it at events, but in the back of your head... just nagging. Awesome.

Thank you guys for retroactively putting the photographs in here. Absolutely badass!

Love your passion and excitement to keep the memory of your dad alive, he'd be very proud of you.

Admittedly I was never a Dale Earnhardt fan, I did respect who he was and what he did for the sport and the fact he was a racers racer. When Jr. entered the scene I never really pulled for him on Sunday either, he had no shortage of fans without me, so no loss there. However, after running a few races and practice sessions and chatting with Jr. on iRacing I began to realize how real/normal of a person he was.. when people weren't fighting for an autograph or a chance to shake his hand etc. I began to really respect who he was and what he had to deal with living in that shadow and how even he had to work to get close to his father. I must say watching these shows really puts on display how human and down to earth he really is. I think that's how fans connect with racers and perhaps a part of what's missing in many of the existing drivers. It makes me happy to see him this excited to get a piece of his father's past, I feel like that's something any normal human can relate to. Please keep this up and the behind the scenes photos etc. It's very interesting to see and something fans of the sport in general enjoy seeing, especially those of us who remember it before it grew so big.

Man I had no idea what a great story teller you are Jr. You had my wife Amy Lynn and I on the edge of our seats....hoping so bad that it was “THE CAR" Wow that's a great story Man so happy for you man 👊 those pictures of you in the car was so nice too. This made me tear up, Dale! I lost my Momma 28 years ago when I was just 17. Most of the things that belonged to her have been lost because my Dad threw it away and some was stolen. I know I would be the same way if I found something that I could confirm belonged to her! I miss her so much!

I was really touched throughout this video, I lost my dad in 2003 and you can just tell how high you held your dad was the same way I looked at mine, he was my hero. God bless you Dale.

Dale Sr. was such a giving person. I remember hearing one time this pregnant lady came to an autograph session he was having during the Christmas season. Her and her husband was struggling to make it. He gave her the leather jacket he was wearing, and autographed it, of course.

Congrats Jr. That IS priceless and I can't think of anyone else who should have it but you. I am also very close with my father, I can't imagine how great it must feel to have that car! Best wishes man! DMP forever

There are few famous people I'd care to hang out with for a day, and Junior is one of those few. Humble, down to earth dude who I think understands and fully appreciates what life has afforded him.

That's one of the things I loved about Dale; he wasn't pedestrian......AT ALL. He knew what he wanted, and made damn sure it was done his way....and if it wasn't, he'd do it himself. Total blue collar.

This is a great video. I relate with Dale Jr . All I got when my dad passed was two rifles he had mom sold everything else that belonged to dad.

I kinda figured it was the real car when Jr. talked about the driveshaft loop and hammered floor pan. When people try to fake things, they generally don't have the minor details like that. The pic of the rivet holes for the radio just put it over the top. I'm a diehard Dale Sr fan to this day and if I had the chance to pick one of his cars to be my own, it would be the one from his last win at 'Dega in 2000. All of Seniors wins were great, Daytona in 1998 was AWESOME, but, coming from 17th to win the Winston Million in 4 laps was flat out UNBELIEVABLE even for Sr! Thank you Kenny Wallace for your help! Dale Sr. was both Superman and Everyman to his fans.

Such a great story for a sad week for Jr on losing his Mother to cancer. He is just too young to have lost both of his parents. I know there are people out there who are younger that have lost both,but it's still sad for him.

I am really happy for Jr getting this car back in the family. I was fortunate to visit Sr s race shop in Mooresville/ Kannapolis and I am pretty sure I remember seeing this car. There were his two Bush GN cars ( we called them then) a pink race car and this car. Glad all turned out well this was the original car. Hope Jr. enjoys for many years to come.

I love the way Dale Jr sees his way around the negativity. When you hear someone say “When my dad died I got a pair of boots” without bashing anyone or disrespecting anyone by name and he just decides he’s going to go about his life putting together his own collection. That’s class.

I was at the show in WPB Fla and the sold sticker says $190k but BJ shows it as $209k as the price in details. It is a cool car for sure and I’m glad Jr got it. Glad I took pictures and stuck my head inside too. You can never tell if it’s the real deal or not. Glad this one was!

Got me in the feels seeing him get this excited over something that belonged to his dad. I had to go dumpster diving to get Harley Davidson & Dale Earnhardt t-shirts that belonged to my dad because when he passed, his daughters pilfered everything of value and what wasn’t of value to them was thrown in the dumpster less than 48 hours after his passing. I had collectable die-casts belonging to me & a couple of rifles that were given to me by him & his best friend that I trusted him to keep in his possession because I was couch surfing in my younger years. Everything disappeared so once in a while my mom will come across photos from when my dad went to Charlotte & Dallas for Winston cup races and she will pass those on to me but sadly, I’ll never track down those guns or anything else that I knew meant something to him that I can hold on to.

Dude, I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that you got that car. I saw it pop up about a week before the auction and I was hoping like hell that you would get it. Congrats.

I have to say when you said this was built at Robert Gee's house I know that car. I can remember going by the house on the way to the track and seeing it there every now and then as the door would be open. Happy you were able to get it and have proven it to be the car.

So proud you got this car Dale. My heart breaks when you tell the story that all you received of your dads belongings is a pair of books. Its cruel and wicked to treat Dale's children in a cold manner. It will be a great reunion someday when you meet your dad again. She may not answer to you, Kelly and Kerry today however, her day will come when she will be held accountable for her actions when she meets her maker.

I listened to the podcast, but it was great to see the pics. I’m so glad it was authentic! Can’t believe you spent that money without being 100% sure, but it all worked out. You all are in my prayers concerning the loss of Miss Brenda who I know is at peace, but is still missed terribly.

We lived in Kannapolis in the late 50's to '61 and ate at the Midway What-a-Burger! My brother now lives on HHI but we'll go back for another burger when he visits me in Lake Wylie, SC!! Love this story - how incredible to confirm it's authenticity!!!

I tracked down, located and was able to buy an old Peterbilt truck that my dad drove when I was a kid. It’s a great feeling.

So I am a newcomer to the show. I was a huge fan through the glory days of DEI and was at all of the Talladega races when Jr. dominated. I just kind of drifted away over the past few years and have not watched a race since Jr. retired. However I have enjoyed finding these videos on KZread and Facebook. My wife jokes that she is going to have to put new in "Dale detox." Love the old stories and this car is just exactly what I mean. Jr. is so excited to find those rivet holes. Really cool.
