Yes, but did Chogyam create the fear? Do not people get in touch with their fears when meditation is the center? And what of this blame, "he created" and this direct and causal relationship of an organization with the Lama? Create fear? Was this the intent. Organize as only the Japanese can? What does that even mean. I ve said it a thousand times, the poor poor Dali Lama

Fear is the path also. Chogyam put the fear of death of Chogyam himself in the hearts of his students, they saw how he was destroying himself. Chogyam destroyed their attachment to him this way. If you haven’t walked the path of madness, or if you weren’t propelled on this path, you won’t won’t understand, but is it wrong because of you’re misunderstanding? That’s judgement. You can start a blame game, but Chogyam had to die like all of us, so don’t worry about his behavior, his death showed his success and realization. Don’t judge what you don’t understand.

Sogyal Rinpoche had hidden sexual practices and intimidation as an organisation around him, and this is indeed not the only case to be found. The situation of Chogyam Trungpa is quite different as he was very open about his behavior, not trying to hide it. Now I have no idea about the way his meditation centers are beeing ran since he has passed away. I just know the man was clear and open regarding his behavior. ( sorry for my french accent :) )

  • @charlesrae3793

@@gaelkellerson893 Lately there have been allegations by those who were close to him that he latterly used cocaine and seconal, so he was not totally open and transparent. There are also allegations that he tortured cats ( because cats are supposed to have not cried when Shakyamuni Buddha died). These are allegations, and I have no way of knowing the truth. However, the behaviour of Trungpa's successor Thomas Rich was reprehensible, insofar as he coerced males to have sex with him, and subsequently gave at least one partner AIDS. He claimed that Trungpa had told him that due to his yogic power, he would not transmit the virus. Again, I do not know the truth about this, but Trungpa left a toxic legacy insofar as his community was riddled with alcoholism and sexual promiscuity. Also, his behaviour at the infamous Halloween party of 1975, where he and his bodyguards manhandled the poet WS Merwin and his partner was out of order, even tho' various acolytes tried to defend his bullying behaviour. The point I wish to make is that there were victims, whether he was open or not. Is bullying acceptable if I am open about it? Bullying is bullying, and no reference to Drukpa Kunley or any siddha can make it less. Rick Fields in his book on Buddhism in America said that Trungpa both did more good and more harm to Buddhism than anyone.

I think Ani Pema Tenzin is not taking into consideration that Chogyam Trunpgpa couldn't present himself nor the Buddha Dharma to the Westerners of the day from a conservative moral perspective. The seekers of the day were mostly made up of people rejecting the morality and rigidity of their own religions. Choyan Trungpa was the perfect teacher for the students of the time, and it is largely on his efforts that Tibetan Buddhism became the most popular form of Buddhism in the West. Chogyam Trungpa was a mahasiddha and a amazing Bodhisattva.

@@gumbymofugga Buddhism is one of the "flavors" of nondualism, there are many others such as christianity, all of the gods of induism, judaism, vedanta, etc. If one cannot understand basic nondual concepts and models then "ritualization" comes to the rescue, from here rituals grow around the core ideas like barnacles on a ship's hull and after a while the "ship" cannot be seen anymore and we are left fighting eachother because we discuss these "barnacles" (rituals) instead of the core ideas. If you practice inclusion you are included. If you practice exclusivity you will be excluded. Exclude no one from oneness since you will be excluding yourself.

Lord Buddha Himself took an ideal structure of life of a monk to observe and serve His Teachings to people. When Nagarjuna brought up Tantrayana as the means towards understanding Buddha's Intrinsic Nature, He called it 'Secret Society' ( Guhyasamaja). Padmasambhava also did not mix up monastic Teachings with yogic teachings, but many in the Lamaistic Buddhist Tradition did as a popular (ity?) method. They neither could give up their establishment to remain as yogis, nor they could give up the yogi-attitude. The good and bad, right and wrong are binaries of mind, as Abhidhamma points out. To be aware of them as well as not support any of them is the yogi/ni way. The monks way is the ideal way of 'one needs to be followed'. To mix these two is to create controversy! Crazy Wisdom should bear the power of Buddha Mind to prove it.

One of the Buddhist messages (I believe perhaps of the bodhisattva vows? , mmm if I’m not mistaken),, is not to disparage other Buddhist teachers to their students, which sometimes destroys faith,. Had it not been for Trungpa Rinpoche, the Dalai Lama and many other critical teachers would not have benefited, not only from the welcome, hosting and introductions that Trungpa Rinpoche provided them, But they would have still been spread legged over a hole in the ground or hanging their asses off of a windy Cliff to take their shits.

cool physicalist social contract theory about morality. it gets a little more complicated if the mind is understood as fundamental eg. tilopa spent more time isolated in unbroken perfect single-pointed concentration on love and compassion for longer than you've been alive, and yet he found it appropriate to skin and cook fish alive. this seems contradictory unless it turns out he has way more data about how things exist than we do. or he could jist be like bloated westerners who cook lobsters alive and need to be culled like most other meat eaters

@@backwardthoughts1022 it’s lucky I can trust my own inner wisdom and can access my own inner data without deferring to a mental concept of meditating on love that someone told me about. You don’t know how old i am and it doesn’t matter because old people can be stupid. Also, you don’t access love by meditating abstractly on it. It’s a question of greater sensitivity which you get through living and more mirror neurons, and not having your heart blocked by painful emotions of the past. I don’t eat meat and I agree I have actually cried when I saw lobsters in the supermarket. I thought the lobster thing was brutal and didn’t understand why no one else could see it. However when it comes to eating some things, there are things the body doesn’t do very well on. People have got sick being vegan after about 8 years…. Again we have to feed meat to our pets. If you have a problem with eating meat you’ll have to take it up with Mother Earth and Nature. She is often very cruel. I was planning to ask her more about it. I also wanted to know more about why she even created violent humans, because the reasons I got did not seem enough. Either way the meat eating question has nothing to do with a person who is meant to be a better person, a spiritual leader torturing a living being. I don’t care if someone says it must have a reason. It’s not a spirituality my soul wants to follow.

In summary, the response of HHDL was this: the tantric practices of the likes of Tilopa etc should be used only on an extremely selective basis, and certainly not with the vast majority of practitioners. For those, the life of the Buddha alone should be the exemplar of what is, and what is not, acceptable practice.

It is because, look at all these followers, these followers all end up instantly trusting a some monk as their main Guru, they also directly jump into Vajrayan practice without going through the basics bhuddhist philosophy and other studies. So it was also their own fault because these followers have all try to associate themselves with some kind of self claim Rinpoche and tulkus. They continue to follow them despite knowing that these are not following even the monks robes. That's why Dalai Lama was laughing like crazy in next video. However, he also listen to them very carefully...

I presume that you were one of his close students? Or are you One of those theistic Puritanical trolls? You know nothing about Trungpa. And just to add in case anyone else is reading this besides you, Trungpa loved life he did not “use” or “abuse” cocaine. He tried it with his students in the early days to see what it was like. He asked his students to round up all their drugs, and bring them to a “party”. Once there he asked them to put all their drugs on a coffee table in the living room. Then he asked them directly they wanted to work with him. They would have to throw away their drugs. He then rounded everything up and threw all of the drugs on that coffee table in a roaring fire. It was the 70s when we had experimented explored, tried, and some did abuse those people were far in between. Because of Trungpa most of us got our sht together and went on to help ourselves and others. Many of them have prosper and done extremely well. many finished their degrees and went on to become doctors lawyers, journalist, successful, respected, poets, writers, scientist, parents, loving and caring, daughters, and sons of Aging parents. there is no large community that is free of those cannot muster for whatever reasons they may have, but Generally Trungpa not only set an exemplary example of what it is to be awake and truly authentic and presence in the every day and his devoted students who knew him well will attest that he was abundantly compassionate, kind, skillful, generous cheerful disciplined, and worked tirelessly long hours on our behalf, to help make this a better place. Had it not been for Trungpa who rolled out the red carpet for other teachers, who directed his students to host other Buddhist teachers coming from Tibet, India, Japan another places, far and wide, Buddhism and its message of loving kindness and non-violence with not have arrived as soon as it did, and guys like the Dalai Lama and other great teachers would still be shitting spread legged over a hole in the ground. After Trungpa died ,Many Buddhist teachers, other spiritual guides from different pass, and Shamans benefited from having Trungpa Rinpoche’s students join their communities. so before you go running down and smearing someone who you could not have possibly known, maybe you might consider looking inward and becoming still; then see what is there in your heart. Trungpa Rinpiche was never about himself, but about understanding the Western mind and helping us realize are innate courage, brilliance and beauty.

Chogyam was a enlighten teacher. So at times it is hard to understand, however, he may been purifying out a lot of negative karma. This happened to Naropa of India. He was a great Indian Buddhist he had not meet his master. One day he heard about his great teacher Tilopa, and found him he was tearing opening a fish he caught. The fish was in agony. But Naropa said it because of my "evil mind" I perceive him this way. Tilopa looked up from him immediately when Naropa had thought this and all sudden fish in his hand was full healed and he threw it back in pond. Tilopa would gone to test and hurt Naropa twelve time in the following years testing his faith. Each time Naropa would endure great pain and suffering only for Tilopa to heal him until finally he achieved supreme enlightenment.
