I had to walk away from the NKT , many years ago . Before things went crazy , and FPMT were still involved , I had a decent grounding in Buddhist thought . However when it did go crazy , I had to get out . When someone asks you to be an idiot , stop reading books , or break the vows they have just given you . How can I justify harming others in the search for Enlightenment ?

Yes, NKT is a false dharma teachings.They make some critical errors on the most basic tenants. I am glad you escaped!

Great question regarding crazy wisdom🎯

That the point.... majority of westerners who follow Buddhist tend to believe blind faith to any teacher. It happens due to not knowing the Buddhist tradition follow in Nalanda. You can give respect to any teacher but must always be very skeptical only intellectually by asking questions and observing whether the teacher properly practicing the teaching taught by Buddha.

It is not often that we get the truth on the internet . So thank you very much . I have seen so many lost people . I mean kind hearted compassionate people over the years , taken for fools by people with a certain agenda . What can I do ? Nothing . Just say my prayers .

From my experience, African, and practioner of Tibetan Buddhism for many years, the teacher is relevant, his only duty is to guide one with the meditation practice. The practice is the teacher.

I don’t think we can say this is a uniquely Western issue. I have spent many years in India witnessing blind faith in astonishingly dubious teachings. When people want someone to remove their suffering rather than becoming responsible for their own situation they will believe just about anything 🙏🏻

A person can only misuse or abuse his or her power only when that person is put in a position to do so by others. Some Tibetan lamas abused their power because they were empowered to do so by others. His Holiness message is that don't empower them from by doing due diligence from beginning.

Tenzin thinley Of course, you are blaming the ‘victim’, here - this is unjust. Any teacher holds a position of influence and power and the onus is on THEM not to overstep the boundaries of ethics and intimacy which consequently interferes with the learning of the student, the fundamental basis of their relationship and connection. If a sexual relationship must occur, respect to other students, and the involved student, means the deeper connection must develop outside of the dynamic of teacher/student - perhaps later......

@@camillep9346 Not sure if you're a communist propaganda troll, But ultimately, the point that Thinley makes is that, we are responsible for our self. We cannot control other peoples behavior and actions, but we can control ourselves. So the Dalai lama is advising caution and a skeptical attitude before committing to the guru/student relationship. The dalai lama is not responsible for every single Buddhist master and every single Buddhist school. He holds no authority over them.

Yes, unwise and immature of jetsunma to bring esoteric teachings on a pedestal where everyone will be confused by it because most won't understand it, but good on her as this issue of senior monks abusing disciples is controlled. However rare it might be. Well explained by His Holiness, but reluctantly because he knows many idiots will think they'll gain superpowers and practice tantra with insincere motivation and become mad.

one graduates from theravada to sautrantika, to this nalanda buddhism. they explain theravada much better than most theravadins.

If it is about reaching the state of dispassion, consort is not needed. You only have to interview divorced couples. Lots and lots of stories which will make you avoid marriage. Or try living with abusive, manipulative PRETTY girls. Beautiful but devilish at heart. Sooner than later dispassionate state will be achieved by you. No yoga needed.

No student has the capacity the « tools » spiritual awareness to check on a Master. You can Check a Master only if you have the same level of realization as He! YOU don’t choose a Master, He chooses you!

Jetsunma, as achieved as she is, has also made a good point but is confused about what is the line that defines tantric practice and abuse, like he said, sexual organs can only be used by tantrics who see no difference between feces and feast, it is not possible to comprehend such acts for a normal conformed person. But she was wrong in bringing up esoteric, tantric practices on a public platform as it is create doubts and confusion about buddha dharma as people will only look at it superficialy.

why was Dalai Lama speaking about Lama from completely discrete school?

That’s why no monk will ever do it!You do realize that Tibetan monks also have to follow the Mahasamgika Vinaya which is pretty similar to the Pali Vinaya.If only ever,it’s done symbolically.And also,it’s not sexual misconduct,it’s root downfall(parajika).Maybe stop being a Theravada supremacist especially when you don’t even know heads or tails of what you’re talking😏

He wasn’t being paid by CIA, he was being protected by them, so money was (and might still be - hard to know) spent on preventing the Chinese from killing him. The CIA were training Tibetans in Tibet in the late 1940s and early 1950s until they simply dropped them altogether and left them to their fate as China gradually overtook Tibet and caused HHDL and hundreds of thousands of others to flee.

Did you know Tibet has flourished since the Chinese tooK control.You should see it now and how the people are really happy and not under the thumb of fuedal Lama control and manipulation. There lot's of videos about it. They've even rebuilt monastery's in Lhasa. They all have running water and electricity and don't have to use yak poop to make their yak butter tea. The Chinese have made a pureland heaven out of the place. China saved Tibet. They can't be all so bad.
