alot of people dont think dogs need socialising, they just think the dog will automatically like other dogs and people but its not the case for most dogs. And the people who do get that dog that growls at other dogs or people they assume that dog to be aggresive when it's really not. it's sad how people aren't taught this because if more people knew the less victoria would have to go around putting things right.

Mitzu eeeeh idk there, feel like that depends on the reason and the dog. I used to have a dog that REALLY did not like strangers touching her but as soon as there was a “proper introduction” she’d accept them into her space and be super friendly. Through training I got her to be non-reactive to strangers approaching but in general? I wasn’t going to take any risk for her to decide the “stranger” was a “threat.” So no, any random person when I had taken her on walks was NOT going to be allowed to touch her while out and about

Who said people always look for expensive things? People get what they can afford whether that's a dog or a car. There's a lot to consider when buying a dog including the costs of it's vet bills, food, dog bed, crate and any other equipment you need to take care of it. When getting a car or TV you buy it once and don't have to spend much on maintenance but you have a dog for it's lifetime. You can can get a healthy, and well behaved cheap dog too. He should have asked to meet her parents when he visited the breeder to get an idea of what their personalities are like as well as socializing the dog much earlier. In this situation it just seems like they way they trained her is the issue

@@blowitoutyourcunt7675 the problem isn't just how well you treat the dogs. There are "high end" breeders who sell their lots for thousands and I'd consider them monsters. The main reason being they aren't coupling parents with great temperaments or superior genetics. Aka the physical structure being the most beneficial for the breed. Unfortunately some dogs end up with a major flaw that causes early onset of arthritis of the joints or some such or has an illness that ran in it's bloodline. Pure breeding is to make the choice to make the puppies as healthy as possible through selection of genetics. Most back yards don't usually have the income to afford those dog's prices. And some "certified" breeders will bank on "cute mutations" by making them pocket sized, or MASSIVE. Which is so sad.. it causes so much suffering for the animal and the owner. This unfortunately is why mutts tend to have less health issues than "pure breeds" now. :/

I don't care that you(as in general) take good care of them because there so so many dogs waiting to be rescued. There are already many dogs as is. People shouldn't breed dogs. At least not until the problem gets fixed. I wish it could be illegal to breed dogs and after the situation becomes less extreme there can be breeding but vERY SPEACIAL CASES. i'm sighing real hard at all the people in the comments saying that this is how a doberman is supposed to behave :'D this is a FEARFUL dog, not a confident, protective one. She sees these strangers at the door and isn't sure what she's supposed to do about them, because she doesn't know them. Are they going to hurt her? She's barking and growling to try and tell them to back off, not because she's protecting the house/her owners, but because maybe if she's intimidating enough, they won't try to hurt her. It's along the same lines as an animal puffing up to look bigger so predators will back off. a well bred, well socialized doberman would alert the owners to strangers at the door, and then be totally fine once the owners let the dog know that the guests are fine.

He woofed at the cat, the cat hissed and the dobby took off.......in the opposite direction. I definitely was not prepared for that. On the way home, someone crossed the street so they didn't have to walk by him. I laughed the rest of the way back. Oh, he also thought he was a lap dog. Our rescue agency made us promise that we wouldn't take our puppy out until she had all of her shots. This missed a vital socialization window for her. We don't have many friends and most of our families are 3000-8000 miles away so that didn't help. If a rescue agency asks you to leave your pup inside until all their shots have been received, show them some of the research that says that the benefits of early socialization vastly outweigh the risks of not being fully vaccinated. You don't have to walk them, but taking them to puppy classes (and there are classes that will take them as long as they have some vaccinations) is the right thing to do when you're not a social person. It introduces them to other people as well as their dogs. It's taken years to get our dog more comfortable with other people and while she never growls at anyone (and never has - she's a flight dog), she still gets anxious when people visit.

I know what you mean. All vets here in new Zealand advise against walking you puppy till they're fully vaccinated because of parvo. The vets in my town allow you to take her to puppy school without all her shots so you can learn basic training and get her socialised. Now my girl goes to doggy daycare 3 days a week to keep her socialized and stops her being bored in the yard all day till everyone gets home.

I'm angry with myself for not researching the issue before she was 6 months old. She already had a backstory that was empty. They put her with a mama dog and her puppies at about 3 months of age, but they were only together for a week or so. It's taken 4 years of daily walks to get it where she is ok with strangers near her. She is 100% fine with other dogs thank goodness. People in our home is still a problem, though she is getting better. But this is years of work. Our vet says she may have turned out an anxious dog regardless, but I still feel so guilty about missing that vital window.

If you get a puppy at 8-10 weeks and keep them on your property until 20 weeks when they’ve had their shots, you still have a good amount of time to socialize. Additionally, there are things like dog strollers where you can socialize them in low stimulus environments like a walk around the neighborhood or the park to begin socializing in a safe way. There’s also lots of socialization that can be done in the home, such as having guests over with their pets and training a positive response to the doorbell or a knock.

LMBO, I saw this glimpse of a dog or a cat, and couldn't quite decide what it was until it appeared later on. It has its own ball on a string to play with if it gets bored😂😬

I had a rottweiler that I got from a rescue service that was kept on a chain outdoors all his life (eight months at the time of rescue), he had bad fly bites on his ears and legs and was malnourished. The first day he was in my home he was a wild puppy, he loved running around the house and through the back yard, you can tell he was so excited about being free off a chain. That dog loved everyone and everyone loved Sparky, he was the sweetest dog you could imagine despite being abused as a puppy.

Anna Barham puppy mill dogs typically have very obvious health issues and generally are mutts rather than purebreds. I doubt she’s from a mill, just an irresponsible backyard breeder.

As an ethical breeder it's so true. You need to be so careful who you buy a puppy off of. Too many people breed dogs with bad temperaments and health exclusively for money. Papers don't mean anything as the ckc, akc etc have problems with people taking mutts and registering them as part of a registered litter and go on to breed them even though they're unhealthy, have genetic deffects or poor temperaments. I do not breed registered dogs, but take pride in my pets/breeders. I wait until the female is 2 and a half, has been health certified and has a sound temperament and the same goes for my males. I have raised dogs, many, who where not fit to pass on their genes and I take the responsibility to fix them and find them the perfect forever home. It is an income, but you have to make sure you're doing it responsibly and ethically.

Mycel responsible breeders do not contribute to any shelter populations. Responsible breeders will always have a contract in which makes the puppy owners always bring their dogs back if they cannot care for them anymore, no matter the age. 🤷‍♀️ learn the facts. Backyard breeders and irresponsible owners are why there are shelter dogs.

@@alyssa-xc2oj ethical breeders are not the problem. People have been breeding working&companion animals and live stock for thousands of years. What people need to focus on is the irresponsible people who purchase these creatures with no plan to keep the animal for it's entire life, who have no idea how to train or take care of them, cannot afford vet bills or because that cute little puppy grew up.

Ethical breeders are needed, without them we would be in lack of service dogs/police dogs as well as they can't just take any puppy without a full history of their parents with their temperament and health history. I am not one, but wouldn't think twice buying a puppy from a good breeder, and while I always have a soft spot for rescues - the fact of the matter is that some times you need a dog you know a lot about, and rescue dogs can not promise that - especially since some rescues will lie just to rehome the dogs. I want a dog in the future, but I need it to get along well with 2 cats and 3 other dogs (only the cats are mine, but I dogsit for the family), and so most likely I will need a puppy - and I need to know that there is no hunting/herding breeds in that puppy as I am not wanting to risk it chasing the cats, so yeah probably a puppy from a good breeder. (Yeah you can tell me that with training the breed shouldn't matter, but in some dogs the instincts are just that strong, and I am not willing to risk it)

I knew a very friendly Doberman when I was a kid. This was one that was properly trained and socialized. Being bred as guard dogs, they’re naturally inclined to be suspicious of people, so training is essential. Thankfully, they’re very fast learners.
