Dainayw Squirrel Quill Brushes - Opening, First Opinion Watercolor

I had forgotten I shot this video. I got these brushes a few months ago. Here are my initial thoughts on them. The brushes are all squirrel hair, not a mix of natural and synthetic fibers. The handles are wood with a nice finish. A nice brush to hold.
I've been using them since I got them and have really gotten to like them. After this opening, i really dug into them, and, honestly, thought i wouldn't like them at all. But the more I use them, the more I really like them. They have almost become my go to brushe to use.
Thanks for checking it out. Please feel free to like and share the video, and subscribe to my channel. I do post videos every week, so be sure to check back again soon.

Thanks for these quill brush videos. I know you did them long ago, but it is a great resource for a newbie like me looking for her first set of quill brushes!

Thanks for the video, Michael! I have a quill brush that I brought over from England when i moved to Florida in 2006. Oddly enough, I've hardly ever used it but your video has made me think I should give it a 'run out' for a while to see if I take to it's way of painting. I'm still getting used to (and quite liking) a couple of Silver Brush Black Velvet brushes - sizes 8 & 12. They seem to have a similar water-holding ability to the quills you show in this video, so maybe Ill find the quill quite to my liking when I get going with it. Thanks again for taking the time to put out this content for all of us on your channel - it's much appreciated. Cheers, Brian.

What size was the biggest mop in that set? I'm saving my shekels for a set of brushes with a nice mop in it. Being on a very tight budget, who isn't, I can't afford to waste my money so I want to be sure before I order something so I neeed to know the size. Thanks much.

The sizes of this set are 1, 3 and 5. They aren't hugely oversized, but they are a bit bigger than I would expect for their number.

So, I just left a message on the other review you did on the four brush sets from Art Secret. So... You've used the others for 2 and 1/2 months now and you've got these now, do you feel like you have a preference between the two? I'm looking at buying a new set and I thought I'd try the older set and then I noticed this review tonight so now you've just complicated my life! Lol..... What's your opinion?

I like these brushes a lot more, but its a little difficult to tell why. There is nothing wrong with the other Art Select brushes at all, but they arent quite as nice as these. As Im thinking about it I think there are two real reasons why I like these more. Firstly, the look. These look slimmer some how. I dont mean the handle really, i mean the bristles. these look like they have a nice gentle taper to the tip. The synthetic mix of the others must have some factor in the bristles being (or at least looking) shorter, and looking like they come to a very steep point. That alone wouldn't swing it totally for these brushes, but we all want the brushes to look and feel a certain way in our hand. The other reason holds a lot more weight. I can paint finer areas with these, better and more consistently. As such, I use the #3 and #1 quite often.

@@watercolorswithmichael Thanks so much. They're so close in price, but that isn't a deciding factor for me. I trust your judgement when it comes to this. Thanks for your input! I can't wait to watch you do a piece with them! I don't so be interested in finding out how they hold up over time. But I'm going to order mine tonight!

Keep some nail scissors handy for trimming stray fibres off brushes rather than pulling on them. It's kinder to the brush. And I think it's pronounced Day-Naw. 😊
