My current Bible is The Complete Jewish Study Bible, I observe Sabbath and Sunday and am never without the protection of The Armor of GOD from Ephesians 6. I am so thankful for these daily readings of scripture that Branch Together has provided.... I received my Second Birth in 2016, and am eagerly watching for the soon coming " Call from Jesus to 'Come up Here' "! Blessings, Grace and Peace to you Darrell and the team of Branch Together 🧓 🙏🙏🙏

The author is not talking about a literal rest day, but that though the Hebrews, or at least the ones who didn't obey, thought they kept the 7th day, they dishonored the Lord because of unbelief. He now talks about another day called Today, on which we should receive Yeshua, as God's appointed rest. "S/he who believed in Jesus, entered has entered divine rest!" Shabat observance is no longer an obligation in the New Testament in the legalistic sense, but we spiritually observe the day or the everyday has become a Sabbath of Rest, ever since we took up His yoke, by receiving Jesus as Lord & Saviour & He removed our guilt & sins giving us rest. Matthew 11:28 says: "Come unto Me & I will give you rest, all who are weary & heavy-laden!"

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NIV

Years have gone by since video done, yet here I am listening to it today. I keep coming back to Branch Together to help me do my Bible Studies. This is one error in this message, and that in verse 8, you say Joshua, but its Jesus (see KJV). I recommend, BT contact the Bible version company you are using to fix their mistake. God bless.

Thanks for your kind comments! Glad you find these devotional videos helpful! As far as the translation, all modern translations translate the name as Joshua now. Joshua, Hosheah, and Jesus translate from the same name. From the context you can tell that verse 4 is talking about the old testament Joshua and Jesus is talked about later in the chapter.

Gen. 2: 1- 3, the Sabbath was set apart at creation. God rested, on the seventh day, blessed it and hallowed it. Ezek. 20:12,20 the Sabbath was made for all mankind as a sign between God and His people. Luke 4:16 Jesus was a faithful Sabbath keeper. Heb. 13:8, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Isa. 66:22,23 in the new heavens and the new earth we shall keep the seventh day Sabbath each week.

The Sabbath is clearly Saturday, the seventh day of the week. Luke 23:54-56 and 24:1 The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath. If the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath, the Sabbath must be the Lord's day. Matt. 12:8. God's final message to mankind is a call to worship the Creator not man who think to change time and law. Read Rev. 14:6,7 Mk. 2:27,28 Sabbath was given before any Jews existed.

The letter to the Hebrews is concerned about showing Yeshua or Jesus as someone who is greater than the angels, Moses, the law & the Sabbath day, for He makes atonement & fulfills the law, which was given by Moses. Grace & mercy come to us by Jesus. The writer, --who some also believe to be a woman, but her message would probably not be accepted by the Jewish brethren because of anti-women sentiment, which even Paul is guilty of, if indeed he wrote all the letters ascribed to him, -- is clear to state that "that those who believed in Jesus, entered God's rest!" It is as if s/he says, "in the past, your forefathers tried to keep shabbat holy, but they erred, as they lacked in faith in the coming Messiah, the only One who can grant us true rest, which a boring day with all the legalistic nuances cannot give anyone! Isaiah 58 says that even thoughts & words had to be well measured so not to trespass the keeping of the day. It was, therefore, impossible to keep such a strict law of a perfect God. He might have done so, so that the sinner felt the need to go to someone else to achieve that rest & He is the Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world! That is the why Jesus healed & forgave sins on the Sabbath day & even told the crippled made whole to "break" the Sabbath by carrying his bed on it! The man had entered true rest when He believed in him & has therefore type had met antitype. The apostle will, therefore, state, "some believe that certain days are holy. He who keeps them, should not judge those who now believe that all days are alike, [as annual & weekly Sabbaths appointed to Jesus]" He is firmer when he says in II Colossians, "Let no one judge you for a festival of the new moon, a Sabbath day, other festivities, food & drink, as they were but shadows of a reality that is already here --Christ!" (or but the body is of Chris). He later gets angry at the Galatians, "Oh foolish Galatians, who has enchanted you, for you began in Grace & are now back to the rudiments of the law. You're consumed about keeping days, not eating this or touching that. I'm afraid I labored in vain for you!" That is the why he also says "the end of the law is Christ!" Some often point to Jesus sayings "Don' t think that I have come to abolish the law & the prophets. Heaven & earth shall pass away, but not a dot from the law will be voided UNTIL IT IS ALL FULFILLED!" The law found fulfillment in Him & when He proposes the spirit of the law in the New Testament, which can be more binding & amplified in regards to loving God in those He died for. So, if the Old Testament said "love thy neighbor as thyself," He says, "love them as I loved you, to the point of dying for them!" It's important to seek time w/ the Lord, but in the NT, after Jesus was buried in the beginning of the Sabbath day, to show that He rested from his Creation & Salvation work on the day that represents the rest He gives us, we are called to come unto Him alone for rest & delight in Him as our daily & eternal Sabbath. Type has met anti-type & He is all in all the same way in the new heavens & new Earth, from 1 new moon to another (every moth continually & from every Sabbath to another (so, not every weekend but everyday continually), all flesh shall come to Me to worship Me!" (End of Isaiah's book) Those who are adamant that sabbath keeping is still binding & cite this verse, should observe the New Moon as well, then, and most who try to impose Sabbatarian laws don't believe the new moon festive is binding!
