Daily 5 Basics- How I do Reading Centers

For the list of apps listed in the video: mailchi.mp/568409c70c84/appsf...
There are lots of ways to do reading centers! I believe in teaching reading in differentiated small groups while the rest of the students are in centers. This video shows you my centers and how I set them up. I use the Daily 5 System for my centers.

Thank you! This was so informative. I taught 3rd grade for two yrs and I love centers. It was my favorite part of the day. Prepping for it takes time to get into a routine and not add more work to my prep but after awhile it is so second nature. I took a break due to covid and now my option to go back to my school is 1st grade and I couldnt wrap my head around 1st grade centers since I barely know the standards and what they can or cant do. They seem so little to me lol Ur vid made so much more sense (I was already thinking of epic and read to another center)

Awesome explanations, really loved the way you explained that. I teach in Fiji and have a couple of questions; 1. How often and how do you rotate the centers, if you are helping the kids that with reading? 2. what happens when a student has finish an activity in one center? 3. How do you determine which child goes to which center

I love your center. Though I'm not a literacy teacher I do check out your videos when you upload your videos. Sometimes I do find something that I can sneak into my classrooms (I hope that's okay!).

I love daily 5 in Grade 1, struggling with having them have open choice. Everyone seems to want to run to Listen to reading. How do you manage free choice? Post a vid!

My lead teacher tried to talk me into open choice to make it more fun for the kids but I felt uncomfortable and waited on it. She did it and it was a mess lol I prefer structured centers 😅 I feel like they get a chance at "choice" if they can choose between two worksheets that count the same like the writing in this vid.

Daily 5 works great, but don’t try it without reading the whole book first. These are different from traditional centers. They are learning stations.

With each new activity in the bins, do the students come up to you and say, “What do I do?” Do you find yourself having to explain how to do each activity or are your students good about reading directions and figuring it out for themselves?
