Such BS, the dad was never going to give him an inheritance he just needed an excuse to disinherit him so he wouldn't look like a total asshole. He knew that based on the way he treated OP the answer would be an automatic no. Now he can tell anyone who asks why he disinherited his son that OP is disloyal.

If you give money towards his debt, he will just waste it and continue gambling it away.

Fun fact; if you take money from a loan shark you have zero legal obligations to pay the money back. Credited loan agencies have the authority to take you to court, put a lien on your property or other avenues they can take to get their money back. Loan sharks do not, thats why their only tactics to get their money back are manipulation, intimidation and violence. You legally dont have to pay them back since they lent the money out illegally. If they start harrassing you or try to force you to pay, you have every right to take them to court or press criminal charges. If they try and get violent, you have every right to defend yourself (check local self defense laws, they apply). As long as you're in the US at least.
