    Looks good. I would change the order in how you did things. Stain first, paint portion going into cement. Add the hardware that hold the lights and any other brackets. THEN place into cement. Less time on a ladder. Easier to do all work from the ground.

    I know your video is a year old but I wanted to say thanks. I was able to do 4 posts and hang the lights in one day. They look awesome. I was able to skip the 2x4 with bracket step in place of a 12 year old holding the 4x4. That quikrete dries fast! I also recommend anyone finding this video to get the "string light installation kit" . Well worth it for hanging your lights and prevents the sag. And I also got some post cap solar lights. Anyway, thanks again!

    I’ve always used drainage stones, too, until I started watching Garden Answer. She never uses stones, explaining that the soil needs enough depth to form a sponge layer. This blew my mind. Last year I did some pots with and without stones. Without stones did so much better! Who knew!!! I live in AL, and we get lots of rain, btw.

    Thank you for the video. I need two of those planters to attach a side of a sail canopy awning fabric cloth screen. I had not used gorilla glue before and one of the 2 x 4 pop off of the planter when I attached the 4 x 4. Because the bottom of the planter I am using had an indented base I just use flat screws to reattached the 2 x 4 to the base. That worked just fine. Again thanks.

    It's 3 years after this was originally posted but I found this update today for anyone interested. Not surprised that the gorilla glue did not hold. I spent the entire day talking with the glue manufacturers, PL adhesive, loctite, gorilla etc. The word is that glue will NOT stick to these resin buckets. Trust me on that. I was hoping to glue an L bracket on either side of the wood onto the bucket itself. But the answer is NO. So now I am back to having to consider pouring concrete, which as a single 72 year old woman, I was hoping to avoid. But I think I'm going to do a lot less than I'm seeing in all of these videos, just something to stabilize the centerpiece. And I saw on a different video the suggestion of using landscape timber instead of a 4x4. It's about 2 and 1/2 by 3 1/2, just a little bit smaller, but lighter to lift, and half the cost. So that is my planned approach to do this weekend, first weekend August 2024.

  • @daddoesvideos

    @daddoesvideos

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey there. Thanks for watching! Yes, using the drill at that point is a little tight. Mine barely fit. Just keep in mind that your screws don’t need to be perfectly flush or anything like that. It’s just a way to stabilize the post a bit. You don’t absolutely need the 2x4 on the bottom if you are able to have a friend keep the post steady while you are mixing the concrete. After that, you can then make sure the post is straight by using scrap 2x4s to keep it in place.

    I don’t think it’s silly at all! All the stuff I bought is approved for outdoor use. So as long as you stick to that, you should be good. And even further, most homes’ outdoor outlets are monitored by a GFCI. So that will automatically shut down power if it senses an interruption in the current (since water is a conductor).
