You can purchase those ndoor/outdoor extension cord protective covers they are also water-resistant. The cover protects the cord's connection from rain, snow, and ice. Thanks for sharing.
Now that the posts are concreted in ground cut a square little bigger then the post in the planters and slide them down the post. Plant flowers and/or herbs.
You are so much fun to watch. Happy Easter to you all. What a great idea.
We purchased the same plastic Barrels and had the same results. What happens with the plastic barrels is that they are curved at the bottom and have zero grip unlike natural oak barrels that typically have an edge and will grab onto the soil. As a result, plastic ones cause them to literally just roll over to their sides every time with the weight and the tights pulling on them. In the end your project turned out great.. thank for the video and safe..
Love the stream. You’ve been busy. Happy Easter!
I used the half barrel wooden barrels for mine - and instead of 4x4' use landscaping timbers. The big barrels are wider and more stable, the landscape timbers don't have as much weight and are still thick enough to stay straight.
Nice. Coming along great! It looks like a great place to be!
It all looks very nice. Great job!
Michael your a great husband and a very hard worker. I can’t wait to see it all done. My hubby and I work well together to. That’s get. Love y’all ❤️❤️
Spotted this after watching some other diy lights with whiskey barrels. I think the reason why those others do go with wood and real whiskey barrel bottoms is because of the weight and to prevent knocking over. Those plastic ones are skinny and not as wide as real barrels. Nice outcome though!
Looks great! Happy Easter!
Happy Easter! You’re outdoor area looks great! Drill holes in the bottom of the barrels and use them as planters for some flowers 🌸 Your outfit is dashing. 😆

Thank you 😊
I used the same post and planters but screwed in a wood base at the bottom of each post to balance them as they cured and added 2/3rds full of concrete. No issues with them falling over at all.
That must have been back breaking work. It all looks to be very inviting. Congratulations.
Looks great! Poor fella needs some more short sleeved shirts - lol. Happy Easter ya'll!
Oh one more thing you can also use hard pvc plastic instead of the wood post it's very light weight and just spray paint them black that looks nice too.
Using a larger whiskey barrel (actual half barrel) is much more stable. Attach via bracket to the bottom of the barrel. Add some cement pieces to the bottom and fill with soil and plants.

I can picture Azalea shrubs on the uppers areas where the spring comes out of the side of the mountain. Nice area for outside gatherings for sure!
Taking shape. It seems so peaceful
Nice one you have a beautiful house and property
I am not quite sure if I understand the initial plan... You wanted to take those barrels, put the pole in and fill the barrel with concrete? And they were supposed to just stand around as "light poles" or something like that?

Yes
Might I suggest when bringing a loaded wheelbarrow down the hill again, to haul it behind you so you won't have to lean down and use your lower back as much. The Moonshack looks lovely! God bless!
It might be good to go back and at least install some shrink wrap tubing over the connecting plugs and then simply hit it with a heat gun that will keep out moisture.. your outdoor areas look amazing
what if you use 2 bags of concrete per barrel?
I did the same thing with mine anyone else if your going to try I recommend putting in some nails at the base of the 4x4 so that the concrete may grab better ...
no concrete needed and use 3 by 3 by 4's instead of those 8 feet behemoth's!! And how did you secure them into the planter??
It would have been been a good idea to lay down weed fabric prevention before putting stones down around deck.
Love this project. You guys did an amazing job. I can almost taste the smores.
No diggity😂😂 love it ❤❤
Headed your way. Can't wait to see all the improvements during our stay at the moonshack.

weight of pole is heavier than 1/2 full faux wiskey bareels
Giggle. Yeah I tried that too. Problem is they are rubber. Move too much. Galvanized work. Love y’all ❤️
I like it
a family that works together on home family projects is a happy family (well most of the time )

If you used actual wooden whiskey barrels- not cheap plastic this would’ve actually worked. I don’t think you all should deter people from this when it’s users error- not the whiskey barrels fault. If done correctly- the whiskey barrels are so cute- especially when you fill with cement bricks and then make them planters.
second Mistake is you need support wire or guidewire fore the lights That why hole on top of socket and cable. you can buy 12 -14 Ga wire 100 feet put eye hook on top your poles. fix the wire to the and neat rape wire around it self about four or more then cut wire . you can use s hooks on each light or if take down for winter wire tie . talk about wire tie use one each side of the plugs or you can thinner wire rape two time cross plug and rape two time twist wire together. code say over 8 feet the cord will break heat and cold. Happy Easter How is the water wheel.
Any bids on the house yet ? Michael put down black plastic before the gravel this will help a lot so weeds don't grow up thru the gravel .

As chance would have it, I was looking at doing this project and panicked that you'd ruined my plan to impress my wife lol! I think had wooden barrels been used, they would have provided enough support for the concrete to setup in vs the plastic. That is my hope at least, that's what I'll end up tryin....fingers crossed haha. Love your guys content, just stumbled across you tonight.
I prefer the post in the ground. Lucky mistake. Where you been? I want to see the farmhouse.
Looks great! I’d still use the barrels for flowers or plants...they’re too cute not to use entirely. Love the flannel/swim short outfit...it was snazzy lol 😝 You guys are just the cutest couple. I just love watching all your projects and adventures. I’m a bit late depending on what time it is there but Happy Easter!
Me siento feliz por ustedes son pocas las familias que trabajan juntas ,Jehova les siga dando mucho amor en su corazon; tanto a ustedes como a sus hijos👍..
real barrels and used brick to weight no concrete. 4X4 Cedar. worked great.
Could have put 2 bags per bucket & mixed in rocks/gravel👍

Thats what I will be doing 👍
ya should mount some LED solar lights on the corners of the upper half of the front of the house to up your front property ...
You could have just screws around the plastic pot before pouring concrete. That will hold the pot together.
Cool Ihr Lieben bleibt Gesund Liebe grüße aus Deutschland Harti
It was pretty obvious that your poles were way too tall for the amount of concrete in those barrels ❤️

Yep, that was about four foot worth on concrete.
Torpedo level is that small level and horizontal is called level, vertical is called plumb.
Use the wooden full size barrels next time 😂

concrete doesn’t really stick to plastic
My husband and I enjoy your channel so much. We liked watching you build the cabin from the ground up. I wanted to tell you something that I recently learned about old, claw-foot tubs. My daughter and son-in-law remodeled the bathroom of their 1917 four-square house and installed an old cast iron claw foot tub. Their 2 year old son, my grandson, tested high for lead levels after a routine blood test. They were advised that it could be from the tub. They kept Simon out of the tub for 6 weeks and had his lead level checked again recently and it's back to normal. Praise God! Couldn't say for sure that it was the tub, but it looks like that was it. God bless you all!

Was the house built in 1917?
I use the light from the fire in the Firepit for lighting. Call me old fashioned. Lol.
am the first as always
As soon as I saw those plastic flower pots I knew what the mistake was.
I see you have big propane tank why you buy Champion Electric Start Dual Fuel Portable Generator or house backup generator and no more buy gasoline.
I think the issue is thats not a whiskey barrel, its a flimsy planter.
No offence, but these are cheap plastic small ‘barrels’ and of course they don’t support anything. You need some thick, heavy, large and legitimate half barrels or whisky barrels. Don’t get me wrong, the barrels you have would make awesome planters and decorations, but trying to support the poles with them is a bad idea. Another idea I got from other vids is to fill the barrels with bricks or small concrete blocks to weigh it down.
"Don't use whiskey barrels." *uses fake plastic ones. 🤣
This whiskey barrel concept only works with real barrels that are more wide. Use L brackets to mount post to bottom center of barrel. Weight bottom of barrel with course gravel or bricks. Fill rest of barrel with soil to plant flowers. Boom!!!!!
I think the message here is don't use cheap plastic walmart whiskey barrels. If you used wood and attached the pole to the bottom of the barrel you would been just fine.
The size of barrel is to small and round.
You cant use the small barrels. Use real whiskey barrel halves. You need a larger area as a base to keep them from tipping over.
So....that was my first thought....is she gonna stand there and hold until the concrete sets 🤣😂🤣😂

Yep
so dont use the cheap barrels like you did. Roger that.
I don’t even know what to say.
You realize that the decorative pots you’re using are not whiskey barrels right? Your video title is super misleading, real whiskey barrels are about 3x bigger, much heavier, with a much wider base, and definitely work.
It would have been been a good idea to lay down weed fabric prevention before putting stones down around deck.
