As a young kid remember that entrance point to D'urville island.My father and his brother were doing a lot of surveying there.We lived in a cabin right in that bay,owned by the Conolly's then the Webers.Great fishing,stones throw from the beach,snapper and cod.

That barnshed had way more space than your tent. Kinga. Backcountry in NZ is even more picturesque. Perfect to explore on a small bike. Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg

"Maybe I'll start the engine." Engineer taking over. You treat an abandoned shed with a dirty sock as a luxury hotel. An attitude I should borrow. A trail camera when you camp would be cool but likely too bulky to add to your pack.

I did French Pass however at the time I wan't aware you could go across to D'urville Island. Obviously something you would need to arrange & work in with the barge times but a worth while experience by the looks of it. Loved the ride in too-so impressive. That must be an awfully heavy bike by the time you get your luggage on it. Well done Kinga-nice one & welcome to NZ.
