Cynthia and Linda were my favorite Beatle wives.....so sad they left us way too soon....I always admired Cynthia because she basically raised Julian on her own....John was too involved with drugs and Yoko....Cynthia and John were so opposite and they were so young when they married. I know she still loved John even thou she married several more times. Too bad Yoko came along....wonderful interview, thanks so much for posting it.....Rest In Peace Cyn : (

Alright now, things got a little out of hand but Lennon didn't have an easy-going family history himself. And then he was kind of married with 3 other guys. So young and taking a lot of responsibility for the beatle- output. 🌷

Yoko is like Pig Pen on Peanuts, a dark cloud follows her everywhere she goes. It's truly a miracle that Sean turned out to be so sweet and such a kind soul. Bless her boots -- she was not of his same "class" and, well, she doesn't talk about the "battling" -- read spousal abuse -- they went through as a pair in a relationship. (At one point John credits Yoko for teaching him about himself and his relationships with women ...) Perhaps she has/did come to terms. And yes, this was an interview post John's death, post sorting out his financial legacy, when it was very clear there was very little support at the first stages of their relationship, but sorting out the financial legacy was still going on in 1984. Yes, they were too young. College sweethearts. When in English terms "going to College" meant going well before 20 and "college" meant more "trade school" than University. And good grief, as "mania" hit, the idea that John was married with a child was antithetical to the idea of the "freewheeling", accessible, "cute" boys in the Beatles. Gee whiz, there were times when Jane Asher (Paul's girlfriend; not his wife, yet despite their "end" Peter Asher, Jane's brother became a major record producer.) and Patti Boyd (George's first wife) were attacked by fans. When Paul married Linda there were "mourning events". Yes, Brian Epstein kept Cynthia and Julian on the down-low. Their relationship was rocky, at best. I can only imagine the stress, despite Cyn's downplaying it all.

She didn't mention John punching her face, because she danced with a mutual friend, while John was out the room, and came back At this time, she had just launched her book, and on the radio, which was recorded, she quoted from it, the above incident. Which, was unforgivable, in my opinion.

When you watch these older interviews you realize there was a time before computers and money and profit being skewed so highly as an influence. There’s more romance, spirit, and humility. Of course you had sexism and patriarchy and racism. Things improved in many ways from this time, but they also deteriorated greatly in many significant ways. There’s definitely a boredom with the hum drum lives and lack of technology, but still a lot of humanity and sustenance. Also medicine was still lacking and much higher mortality and tragedy. Maybe there was an equilibrium time say 1990. Best of both.
