Cyndi Lauper "Time After Time" The Tonight Show - March 1st, 1984
Музыка
Cyndi Lauper released "Time After Time" on January 27, 1984.
Cyndi Lauper on The Tonight Show - March 1, 1984 performing it live.
(If you were in high school in the 80’s then you definitely had at least one slow dance to this romantic love ballad. This was the top hit on Lauper’s debut studio album She’s So Unusual. The song was inspired by her manager David Wolff.
Cyndi and David had been dating at the time. The line about the ticking clock is a direct reference to a clock that Wolff gave to Cyndi. He also makes an appearance in the songs music video.)
(Lyrics)
"Time After Time"
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion -
Is nothing new
Flashback - warm nights -
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after -
Sometimes you picture me -
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said -
Then you say - go slow -
I fall behind -
The second hand unwinds
[Chorus:]
If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time
After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows - you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time -
[Chorus:]
If you're lost...
You said go slow -
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds -
[Chorus:]
If you're lost...
...Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time

I was in my 20's through the 80's..... what an awesome time to be a young adult and those crazy nights at the club. Looking back it was really a perfect place in time for me, I wish I could go back for a bit. Sadly, time marches on and I'm now in my 60's but so glad I have my memories of that glorious decade... the best years ever!

Cyndi is the industry standard for stage performance. I love that she never looks at the camera because to me its so annoying watching some of the singers staring dead into the camera throughout their performance. Cyndi gets lost in her singing and I love her for it. She makes you experience her music with her.

my youth! What a glorious time to be alive as a musician growing up. Made my living playing music because of it.
Wow talk about flashbacks almost left behind ! As anyone who was around during the radio/MTV days … you could hear her songs 20 times a day and take them for granted. Her lyrics and vocals stood the test of time . Fast forward 10,20, and now 40 years later she can still belt these out live perfectly ! Even putting her own twist on them . What an amazing talent
My daughter loved Cyndi & I can see why. She's that eternal love child. Beautiful voice & amazing lyrics!
Such a sincere performance. It makes it seem like no one singing feels anything by comparison.
So beautiful...you will never see this song and act again people...I havent in almost 40 years...The 80s will never be repeated...I am so glad I lived that decade
Man I miss the 80’s. What a great time for music.
She's such a sweetheart. Unique, unapologetic, super talented. Her part in "We Are the World", is the shining star out of all the performers. Love, love, love Cyndi Lauper.
80's please come back...
Hvnt heard this in yrs, wow blew me away. Guess the older we get, we appreciate lyrics more.
Still a beautiful song, I’ve often closed my eyes and listened to this classic
This song is a nostalgia rocket ship. It has all the stuff. She is communicating from the 4th dimension. She is the voice that tells you the right thing to do. The voice that communicates the path to what makes you happiest. This song is the happiest moments of a lot of lives.
In my opinion, the best song in the 80s!

1984 ... we were in 1984 reading 1984 and the music was pure
Time after time we find time flies by. Tonight there is no tick of the clock, just a digital WiFi world where I want to leave my 51 year old self behind for just a brief escape to previous time, that being High School in the 1980s. Memories is where it exists. I am thankful my sons share my musical interests with me. Time with them is also moving fast. They are almost ready to leave the nest. I miss the time where society wasn't so lost, sick and mind controlled by rulers of darkness in high places. Love still carries us. Believe!
When the live version sounds as great or even better than the recording version! True talent!!! Beautiful!

I was an 80's teenager and the music was so good it inspired me to learn guitar, percussion and played in several bands. Cyndi walks away from Johnny's desk onto the stage, KICKS OFF her shoes, and NAILS the performance! One can clearly see her energy by the body movement during "if you're lost, you can look, and you will find me". Simply awesome

Hello 👋 how are you doing 😊
Cyndi Lauper is a another God. I was 6 years old I was born in 1978. I remember my sister would play me this song when I couldn’t sleep.
I fell a little bit in love with this '84 Cyndi Lauper during the performance, not gonna lie
“watching through windows, you’re wondering ifI’m okay” the crackle of the VHS tape, the powerful vocal delivery, her unprompted gestures. Cyndi takes you intimately with her through this. She sings for you.
Cindy is a timeless icon. She is truly extraordinary!
If a time machine is ever invented, the 80s sure are going to be crowded 😉 Love her!!! We sooooo had the best music!!! 💥
I liked Cyndi music she was one of my favorite singers!
I remember watching this episode of the Tonight Show with my Dad. He was a very conservative minister with very reactionary views. He hated rock music and he thought that artistic expression was the devils work. But he was mesmerized by this performance and felt that she was some sort of angelic figure with unlimited talent.
