It’s been repeatedly stated that while Cyclops pushed his team in Danger Room sessions he always pushed himself harder. He never pushed his teammates as hard as he pushed himself, because HE was the leader. He was in charge of their lives when out on missions. He had to make sure he was the best bar none. One of the many reasons he is my favorite X-Man.

Love how theyre all hitting Cyclops with energy beams but Juggernaut doesnt have energy beams so hes just vibing out to it

There are so many great things here: 1. Gambit decides that insteadcof training he will play a tentacle fetish with Rogue 2. Jean and Rogue decide to bail on Cyclops while the latter is busy doing his favorite activity: complaining 3. The animators running out of X-Men villains so they add some random aligator dude 4. Juggernaut just stands there while all the others are manhandling Cyclops 5. That shot of everyone shooting at Cyclops is just so dman funny 6. Gambot complete lack of care or responsiblity to anything that happened now. Not even "sorry Scott". An amazing start to a top 10 episode of this series

It's because over-reliance on his ability roots him to the ground. It's similar to having a large cannon, he can't fire it without blowback. I'm not saying recoil, I mean debris, reprisal and exposure. Once he starts with the big gun everyone adapts and commits. Meanwhile he gets tunnel-vision. Stop and stare too long at a single opponent, they all kill you from every angle. Threaten 360 degrees, you buy precious time. When you aim a firearm, your enemies have to dodge before you fire it. Start firing and they will know you won't notice them sneaking up behind you. He can't commit without danger. The danger room can probably handle a full blast from cyclops, it wouldn't be safe otherwise. It's more that full blast isn't ideal, it may take out a large group of enemies but while he's using it he isn't looking around. Enemies can see exactly where he's looking, where he's occupied and where to attack from. Before he fires, they have to anticipate. Killing any one enemy would leave him exposed to the others, who are looking for the easy kill. Being surrounded sucks, but people don't want to die. No self-sacrificing heroes in that group, even Juggernaut waits for the lizard guy to make the first move - because it's the idiot who attacks cyclops first. They're gonna get the full blast. Even Apocalypse wouldn't want to deal with the pain of having to repair himself, so they wait. That's the good thing about being surrounded, they still are trying to find the angle on you. Cyclops needs to stay moving and keep his hand free to manipulate the visor, and they can't hold him. But once they get his arm locked up he's done for. Taking off the visor might help him, but if he goes full "nuclear" they've got nothing to lose anymore and he has to fight berserker style. If he looks down the floor disappears and he falls endlessly into a pit he's actively making. Stuff like that could get him killed. He knows there's no collateral damage, but he's perfectly capable of killing himself with his beams from primary or secondary contact. If not a direct hit, an explosion or blowback could seriously hurt him. A bad tunnel would leave him trapped. He's powerful, but it has its drawbacks. Meanwhile a gigantic blast isn't as good as one an enemy isn't expecting. A tap now and again tells them you know what they're doing and are controlling the situation - an outright assault, everyone will retaliate with their best abilities. Fights are always like this, discretion is the better part of valor. It's always weighing intentions against tactics. People are too dynamic. There's a reason he became such a tactician - his ability needs constant management via tactics, and thus he specializes in it. It's his life. It's actually tragic if you think about it, he's ruled by this necessity.

The best part about Gambit's reaction at the end is that it implies that he wouldn't have cared even if he had seen what was happening.

They did a good job of making Apocalypse so menacing in this series. Any time he shows up, it feels dire. Even in this simulation.
