Cyclohexane Chairs
Cyclohexane makes weird shapes! The most important is the chair conformation. Here we will learn how to draw cyclohexane chairs, how to flip them, the difference in energy between the two chair conformations, and between axial and equatorial substituents. Chairs are easy place to lose points on exams if you don't draw them just right!

Here we are again, night before the exam. Will I pass… or will I watch a whole series of Professor Dave explaining chapters of material intended for moderate consumption in a matter of hours. Godspeed gentleman.

Hi
the last minute comment about cis and trans not being related to axial and equatorial positions explained 5 hours of frustration and confusion

@@ProfessorDaveExplains 12:33 ins't the cis-/trans-concept only applicable on structures with double bonds?

Nope, it applies to rings as well.

10:22 "Now this chair it's going to be THE MORE ENERGETIC..." internally freaking out "... favorable" filled with relief. I love this channel so much, your explanations are amazing.
A tip for knowing which direction to draw equatorial positions: Make sure the line is parallel to the bond 2 bonds over (either direction works)
@NewWesternFront
Жыл бұрын
but then how do you know which direction to draw the first equatorial position??? ahhhhhh Dave didnt check comprehension we're all gonna DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so so so so so so much I cannot stress how much this helped me. You are so clear and concise and I loved how you showed the conformations side by side to compare them.
Thank you very much for you help, I have my organic Chemistry exam coming up and the past couple of days I have been just watching your videos. They are so helpful and I actually understand, you taught me a whole semester full of organic chemistry through your videos. Much appreciated!

Perfectly explained, thank you so much for the clarification with cis and trans!
This the best Channel to learn Chemistry in a fun way. Thanks a lot once again for ur Efforts.
Great videos! I'm glad I found you on here, I subscribed and will let my friends in Organic Chemistry know about your channel!

Thank you so so so much! You explain things so clearly
I wish I could like a video more than once. Thank you for actually explaining it 💖

You explained what my prof couldn't' t explain in an hour. Thanks a lot
it help my midterm quite a lot. Thanks!!!
You helped me get through whole tough week at Uni . Thanks 😊
You're the man! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for these videos. I just started O Chem and my professor was NOT explaining this in a way that made sense. I thought the chair analogy had to do with the hydrogen bond angles or something, gosh! That's how he made it sound!
literally helps me a lot. this guy is underrated!!
you're awsome professor!! Hats off!! you made me clear:)

thanks a lot prof,, this tutorial help me more than i need ,clear and very easy Iam lucky to find this video,,
Thanks a lot!!!! Cheers from Rio.
my god you explained ring flip so much better than my professor. i kept making the mistake of when you ring flip the carbons don't stay in the same place
Thanks Dave! This helped me pass my O-Chem quiz.
Thank you! I thought the chair conformation simply rotated when it flipped up until now.
Extraordinary explanation, thanks a lot, You look loke a friend of mine from Italy.
Thank you Prof Dave ! Finally I know it 😆
YOU ARE AMAZING. Thank you so much!!!!!!

Thanks, this helped a lot.
Great job!
Note that we usually use the chair 1 conformation, and start labeling carbon 1 at the bottom right.
Thank you very much for teaching how to draw this chair conformations correctly. I tried to understand this with my books and failed. Then I found this amazing video. 😊😊😊

Thank you !
Thank you so much!! :)
Awesome! Thanks
Amazing sir.god bless u sir..
teaching method is best .l like so much
Hi Dave! Loved the way you explained them! Can I classify the conformations with their responding strains as followings? Staggered = no torsional strains Anti = No Strains Gauche = Steric Strains Eclipsed = Torsional Strains
@ProfessorDaveExplains
8 жыл бұрын
+Milton Chow hmm, I've never really thought of it that way, but i suppose it makes sense. however, let's just say that anti involves the least possible amount of steric hindrance, though not necessarily zero.
Bless you!
After having seen this, I'll be laughing while thinking of 'bow tie syndrome' during my exam, lol. Anyhow, it's amazing how you managed to simplify this so much while keeping all the essence. Great work!
Thanks so much.
Thanks!!
You teach better than my instructor.
