McD's is cheating, and shorting yourself of the good bakeries and deli\metzgeri's that always seem to be side\side in German Towns. Took us about a year of living there, and following the locals, to realize that the Bakeri\Metzgeri combo was the way to travel, and way cheaper than fast food - tastier too...

Yeh it absolutely was and we felt so naughty! But every now and then it was fun as something different. We certainly always ate local apart from this. Loved the local food... very good cycle calories too in German food!!❤❤

i have fallen in love with you guys and your journey through a massive binge, following my interest of cycling the austrian danube. Your videos are great, what an accomplishment!! All that cycling must have beenp bloody tough! I am interested in your planning of the trip?

Wow that's such an amazing comment! Thank you! We're very proud of getting out there and doing it and in fact the planning was almost as fun!!! We were both allowed 4 months sabbatical unpaid leave from work, and looked at a very rough estimate total km and how far we could go. It turned out Istanbul was about the ideal length and gave us plenty of emergency time or 'we're being slow' time! We ended up arriving 2 weeks early and had holiday time in Turkey :) Then we looked at routes and we quickly found the eurovelo options. We wanted to keep it scenic and pass by plenty of towns too so this was ideal. We wanted to start up in the cycling heaven that is The Netherlands so we did that first then reached the eurovelo into germany and down to Basel. Then as we reached Romania we decided to hit the mountains in eurovelo 13 instead and it was much more scenic. Then made it up as we went along to Istanbul. Kit wise we did a few day test rides and realised what we needed thru other KZread videos. The best thing we did was buy a great MSR tent and a reliable tires. Only 1 puncture between us in 5500km! Harriet's blog is really useful too.. find the link in our Instagram bio @monteandkomodo :)

Applied for the Transcontinental Race next year, I think I am going to have to incorporate some of the path into the Route as I head from Roubaix in France to Graz in Austria. From the video the surface of the path looks fine for road tyres.

Oh wow that will be some race!! Yes apart from some cobbles in the villages on the Danube it was mostly very good road. We just had usual touring bike tyres and it was fine but in a race you can easily skip some parts and take the fast roads. Sounds fantastic. Will anyone film it??! Or are there ways I can follow?

@@MatHall there will be plenty of media coverage on KZread from riders and others - vlog each day or Instagram etc.. There is a new phenomenon called Dot Watching with these ultra long distance events; everyone is tracked by satellite and you can see everyone's progress across Europe. Yeah I was looking on Komoot - very windy route. Until I know whether I have been selected or not (mid-Jan) I shall hold back on route planning. I think either way I'd like to tour the EuroVelo 6 another year- must have been quite an experience for you both!?

Hi, my question is that bicycle path is entire (non-stop) from Donaeuschingen till Budapest? Did they build it all the way long, or sometimes I have to go out from the bike way and change to the normal... car way? THANKS

Hi! It is mostly signposted to Budapest but even still is sometimes on road. We had no trouble though! You have to keep looking for the Eurovelo signs. A lot of Hungary is on roads but the first few days from Gyor is a wonderful cycle path :)

Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply! Firstly thanks for watching :) So the average was around 55km a day. Nice a casual! Some days 100 but most 60 to 70. In Bulgaria and Macedonia in the mountains more like 30 or 40!
