Cyclists in Amsterdam are so lucky. Fried spruce woods its like you get to a crossing and you can look straight forwards, maybe glance to one side and you know you're safe. Wow. Are those cars actually leaving space for cyclists to pass? This is amazing.

You mean like at around 9:24 with the (illegaly) parked cars at the side of the road? Because most motorized traffic will anticipate cyclists leaving their lane to pass illegaly parked cars, not all of them will do and it really depends on the time of day, but generally it's accepted that car owners will leave some room if there is limited space for cyclists.

The English plated car at 9:50 is not leaving spavce, forcing the camera cyclist on the tram lane.. All Dutch car drivers are also cyclists. They are thought and the know from experience how much space a cyclist need on the right side of the car.

+a4yster: Yes it is, well spotted! It's for a fiercely debated new metro line running from the North of the city to the South of the city (and is conveniently called "North-South line" because of that). It's been plagued by construction problems like several homes becoming uninhabitable because their fundation started shifting position after groundlayers their foundation was built upon washed away because of leaking pile walls (so much that doors inside the houses could not be opened anymore, the maximum downwards shift in position was 23 centimeters within one hour). This caused the construction works to be put on hold while the cause of the problems was being investigated. A couple of years before that, in 2007 a regular civillian got fatally struck in his car by a part of a pile wall that fell out of a crane after being moved while improperly secured to the crane itself, which was probably one of the darkest pages in the many dark ones in the history book of this project. The new metro line has been talked about in the mid 90's and during the talks at that time it was believed it could be put into service in 2005, which bas been postponed with a year ever since construction works actually started in 2003. The estimated time of the first official metro service is now set at somewhere in July 2018. At that time, the budget has been exceeded with an estimated 600 million euro's (the local government of Amsterdam had a share of about 317 million euro's to pay when they started, the remaining 1 billion euro's was already covered by the national government, with the limitation that every exceedance after that should be payed by Amsterdam itself, Amsterdam is now paying a share of around 900 million euro's).

That is why most buy cheap 2nd hand bikes, 20 to 100 euros. Spending more on a bike just makes your bike more of a target and you will be more devestated when it gets stolen. Fancy bikes are not for Amsterdam.

+allen schmitz: The police actually use the posh bikes as bait-bikes to catch bicycle thiefs, they are so good looking that basically no bicycle thief can resist them. They are parked at high profile locations where a lot of bicycle theft takes place and the police simply waits for the bike to get stolen. When they are stolen they track them because they are equipped with a GPS tracker. When they feel the bicycle is going to get sold to someone who doesn't have a clean record to, they sometimes wait with arresting the criminal who stole the bike so they can also investigate or arrest the person who is going to buy it. Oh, and if a bicycle thief feels the police are on to him he will probably ditch the bike into one of the many canals in the city center, about 15.000 bikes end up there each year. Look up "dredging for bicycles in Amsterdam" if you want to see how they clear the waterways from bicycles :P.
