@@RawbeardX which is understandable, but again: cyberpunk as a genre is about a society that is so focused on money that it sees no issue in exploiting literally everything, from nature itself to often fetishized groups of people, and trans women are definitely the latter. I don't know if it was meant with malice or not, but even if it was it fits into the setting of the game. Kind of like having a writer with a past of racist claims write a book set during the time when black slavery was a thing: the fact that they wrote something about that period can be frowned upon, but not the fact that a white character called a black character the n word.

Super late comment, sorry. I saw the uproar about the ad for the "Mix it Up" soda. All I could think at the time was "These people don't understand cyberpunk as a genre." That ad was a perfect representation. It was a scumbag corporation exploiting someone's body for profit. If it made you feel uncomfortable, good! It was supposed to! Maybe next time you see some sexy celebrity selling something on TV you will remember this. Cyberpunk as a genre is supposed to be filled with un-PC things. It's a world where nothing is sacred except profit. I know this will probably never be read since it is almost a year since this video came out but I was watching it again and just typing this makes me feel better. @@spiralviper8158 the problem isn't just limited to videos like this. It's affecting all of KZread. From history videos to let's plays to commentary like this one. And KZread does have issues with offensive content and hate speech. The problem is that no one knows how to deal with the few people causing all these problems and people like YongYea who are just providing insight to a topic are getting caught in the crossfire. Instead of taking careful aim at certain content, KZread is going in with an Apache helicopter and flamethrower trying to burn down any channel who mentions or says certain things, regardless of context. Which really pissed me off tbh. Context is everything and even inconspicuous words can be offensive under the wrong context.

I'm legitimately proud of CD Projekt Red. They are one of the few developers who see games as art, and not as a cash cow or a political vehicle to exploit.

Unlike most of the developers I see who look at best annoyed 24/7 (Don't really blame them, based on the insane working conditions they have to suffer through), or at worst look like they're only doing some public thing for the money, or PR. Seriously, watching the diablo immortal thing, they guy on stage - looked so uncomfortable; like he knew the game was going to be shit, and people weren't going to like it.

When it comes to the nature of gangs there is a grim reality that they are mostly made up of an exclusive ethnicity, whether it be the Bloods for African-Americans, MS-13 for Latinos or the Aryan Brotherhood for Whites. The only common factor for these gangs are class and they predominately operate in places of extreme poverty. You can make a very good argument that the reasoning for these gangs to be made up of a specific ethnicity is that racial distrust, prejudice and historic oppression makes these groups suspicious of each other when in situations where poverty is a major factor. To dismiss the representation of these gangs, especially when the setting is basically a futuristic mirror to current society, is to ignore the nuances and factors that made them ethnically exclusive in the first place and for me that is a major disservice to good social commentary.

Worth noting that RPS has since stuck to their guns, even seen them open up comments and their Editor jumped in to defend these outrage culture pieces. It's pretty sad to see the artistic value lost on people who should, ideally, be good at seeing and critiquing art. I'm glad the majority can see all of this for the ridiculousness that it is, though.

Art imitates life but it's an artistic work that molds it into a fantasy. So while yes, gangs are usually ethnically one majority, it's not racist to make it so in a work of fiction. Basically, doesn't matter if it's racist or not, it's fiction and fits the universe. It's like complaining that the KKK are in RDR2. Yeah, they are a historically racist group but it makes sense in the context.

Seeing that guy so happy about his people being in the game put a big smile on my face, pretty wholesome

I emailed Cd Projekt yesterday telling them not to change anything about their game because a noisy minority of busy bodies were targeting it. I told them the fans were on their side. They replied in about 20 minutes saying "Don't worry, it's all good." I get the sense other developers wouldn't have replied.

Laziest of piece of journalism I ever read. Clearly the person from RPS who wrote that article it sounded like he didn't want to be there and wrote something in a rush. Yong did his research and interviewed Mike Pondsmith himself that's real journalism right there

Dude, it's so refreshing to experience such an even handed and rational perspective on KZread in relation to entertainment, gaming, culture and every combination of the three present. I really enjoyed seeing the dudes talking about the Haitians being in the game etc. It was very encouraging. I can but cannot wait for this game! I got my black card when I did BBQ ribs at a cookout for a bunch of folks. The blackest guy ( a veteran..this was a veteran cookout ) gave me crap the whole time because "white people can't do proper BBQ". I laughed and said "you can rip me a new one. when you taste it and you really think so, Bill". Typical banter. He was skeptical when he got his rack and dug in. 15 minutes later, after three helpings, he was telling me I should open my own restaurant. He couldn't believe how good they were. The ad is kinda noticeable and pops up a couple of times in the demo. But even still not sure what is so offensive about it. I thought they were always upset about the lack of trans representation and even called Victoria's Secret transphobic.

Absolute non-troversy. The _real_ controversy is what KZread is forcing creators to do to their content. Very difficult video to watch as a direct result. It won't be long before you're forced to mute words that only sound like 'naughty' words.
